Very Solid Album.......2007-01-12

This is my favorite album by the group. There are some real excellent tracks on here, notably "Radio Silicon", "The Hour Zero", "Bettie", and "Heelz Afire". Some of these tracks have a real different sound then your typcial MLWTKK album. "The Hour Zero" is a real downtempo tune that stands out as the highlight of the album in my mind. A great tune to sort of just chill out to and shut eyes.

Mix it up, TKK!.......2006-09-03

Honestly, I never could get into most of TKK's stuff... but this album just does it for me. It's got a nice mix of everything to it and TKK mixes everything up just right... jazz, lounge, retro, glam, blues, 80s even (can you say?) and electronics. It's very fresh and this album is full of catchy hooks! Won't disappoint!

This TKK album is one of my faves along with 13 above the night and confessions of a knife. I like the dance tracks the best like "temptation serenade", "radio silicon", and "flesh playhouse". This is definitely the strongest album TKK's put out in awhile. The last couple of albums had a lot of good songs, but quite a few stinkers too, while luna is solid the whole way through.

Cinematic Blasphemy, Carnal Rites, and Loungey Weltschmertz!.......2003-01-07

Well, I wasn't sure this album would ever see the light of day. Their first studio creation in 5 years, alotta water's passed under the bridge. Whatta relief! This disc is sensational in every sense of the word. The production is seamless, the clarity of sound surrounds you. While still a little slim on the out-of-context, dialogue-bytes for my taste, there's more of 'em here than on "CrimeForAllSeasons". An element that I consider part of their definative signature.

To me, THE REINCARNATION OF LUNA is TKK's most musically accomplished work. McCoy's instrumentation is impeccable, and references most of his strongest muses, namely goth/industrial, lounge/jazz, techno/disco, and cowpunk/metal! Mann's vocalizing is also taking some interesting new turns here. Variations abound. Just having seen them on tour, I can attest to the fact that the BombGangGirl featured on this record: Lady Cherrie Blue is as effective a singer as she is a dancer. Similar to Cinderella Pussy.

The highlights here: "Hour Of Zero". Shockingly relaxed, but dark and cryptic. Mann's delivery is new, and refreshingly pure on this hip hop hybrid. Blue's soulsister backups are top notch here. Great melodies. Melodies!!!

"Untouchable Class" takes up where "SexOnWheels" & "The Golden Strip" left off. Guitar-heavy bump&grind deluxe. Great nasty lyric.

"Temptation Serenade" and "Flesh Playhouse" are dansefloor anthems at TKK's kinetic best. Hypnotic and multi-coloured.

"Girl Without A Planet", and "Heelz Afire": Dark, sleazoid, lounge-lizard, extravaganzas. Symphonic in density, maudlin AND hysterical simultaneously!

"Bettie" - Jazz in hells waiting room.

A spectacular comeback, and consolidation of their strengths.

Get THE REINCARNATION OF LUNA. You'll be glad you did.

Good place to review 1 song from maiden........2007-06-23

I don't have the other song but I do have HOLLOWED BY THE NAME on a mixed metal cd with other maiden songs. and I tell you that song was awesome the uplifting riffs and beats were truly amazing with rich solos and bruce dickinson sings like a true god of british metal. If your a fan of maiden then this song will have your full attention and you will not get enough of it.

How did this get album of the year?.......2007-02-21

I'd tend to think it's just me but I've been listening to Maiden for 15+ yrs by now and have seen them loads in concert so I feel comfortable saying: How could this song get 5 stars for a Maiden song? And why does the country of England love the new album so much that it is like the Seventh Son thing all over again? I guess i'm the one not in on the joke but I think this album does not even hold a candle to the last 2 (Dance of Death & Brave New World). This sounds like Maiden is out of steam and i'd swear people are only raving about this new release just due to the fact that the artwork is somewhat tolerable compared to the last 2 releases (who would of thought that a prize possesion like "Eddie" could be thrown around so carelessly to half as talented artists)?
I would suggest buying virtually ANY other Maiden cd (w/ the exception of the forgettable '95 - '00 yrs). I really don't understand all the accolades for this one. And to pull this entire album off live in concert? There were alot of angry fans in the Chicago audience I'll tell ya that. Never thought they would of gotten flicked off by an audience member that paid a fortune but that's how it went. Sorry to burst the 5 star bubbles but I had to throw in my two cents as alongtime devoted Maiden fan. PS - the new Derek Riggs book rules!! Up the Irons!

2 great singles...and more mystery behind Eddie and Benjamin.......2006-10-02

"Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg" is a notable single that was on the album "A matter of life and Death". With Breeg, we're getting a very good dose of storyline and theme to the music that is wrought with possible mystery. Musically its one of the best songs I've heard sung by the Bruce Dickinson led band in a long time. This song is a driving rocker that has some great technical prowess in the guitars as well as a great vocal performance by Dickinson. The song has a catchy, dark groove to it that sails just as much as it smashes. The signature sound of melodic solos and pounding drums is here, but this single, and the full length album it is attributed to, is much deeper than I've heard in a while in both theme and structure. The other single (B-side) of this album is "Hallowed by thy name" and is also a notable, tight track that should not be overlooked.

After a little research into the sudden unveiling of history behind the bands symbolic skeletal figure "Eddie" as well as Benjamin Breeg, I found some fascinating details. Like some bands, whether in the rock spectrum or progressive rockers, there is some deeper history to the bands artwork, Eddie, and storyline than most realize. Benjamin Breeg may in fact be the assumed name of an "unknown soldier" in an unmarked grave. Through their fantasy lore, he came back as Eddie. Or, he is separate from Eddie. The CD cover is depicting Eddie digging the grave of a Benjamin Breeg. On the tombstone is the inscription ""Aici zace un om despre care nu se tie prea mult" which is roughly translated from Romanian meaning ""here lies a man about whom little is known."

The band isn't saying what exactly lies behind the mystery of Eddie and Benjamin. Regardless, I find the new Breeg storyline as well as this single and its promoted full-length album "A matter of life and death" a refreshing continuance of this bands musical direction.

The best part of the anime.......2005-11-17

I do not exaggerate, the music is definitely the best part of this anime. Though the art is very well done the story was disappointing on several levels. This review however, is about the music.
There are some amazingly beautiful tracks and some nicely exciting ones to balance the soundtrack. Choral, string and electric elements are all used to full potential. The final verdict? Buy the soundtrack, miss the anime.

Good take on the classics.......2006-02-26

Paul Motian assembles a talented group of mostly younger (at the time) players to tackle jazz classics. There may be a thousand other jazzmen who've had the same idea, but the interesting thing about this one is the use of two guitar players. Kurt Rosenwinkel's profile has gotten higher recently, and I've not heard anything about Wolfgang Muthspiel, but he plays well here. Chris Cheek and Chris Potter play sax, & Steve Swallow & Don Alias round out the rhythm section. The three originals aren't very notable, but this group does nice work on songs by Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, and Dizzy Gillespie.

In SONGS FROM THE PAGE OF SWORDS, Daniel Asia's music is traced from its evolutionary roots to its accomplished maturity. Offering a brief glance into his compositional diversity, it fills the ears with fluid vocal lines, pointillism, and extended tonality. His music reaches beyond the banal and into the inventive realm of the unpredictable. Infusing the traditional elements of classical composition with subtle influences from American popular music and jazz, Asia's early musical expressionism unveils the interaction between the interior world of humans and the physical exterior they live in.

The recording rests upon on the spectacular performance of New York City based chamber ensemble Musical Elements. Included are the "Sacred Songs," a work that incorporates sparse, playful exchanges between the soloist and instrumentalists, conveying a sense of tranquil beauty and wonderment. The heavier compositional style, which Asia used in the early 1980's, is represented in the darker "Songs from the Page of Swords". "Pines Songs," based on Paul Pines' poetry, is an exploration of post-serial impressionism, defined by angular rhythmical influences and graceful cadenzas. Top-notch performances by soprano Carmen Pelton, bass-baritone John Shirley-Quirk, and oboist Sara Watkins make for an excellent recording.

Amazon mix-up.......2005-02-09

There are two Mingus albums of this name. A 1960 version with a largish ensemble including Eric Dolphy originally recorded on Candid, and a 1970 sextet date originally recorded on the French America label and released in the U.S. on Prestige. Amazon's listing shows the Candid cover but lists the tunes that are on the French recording. The tunes on the Candid date are:
