Customer Reviews:
Good show!.......2007-04-21
I play violin, and I think the Mendelssohn violin Concerto is one of the best. But the bruch concerto, well, is quite disapointment. He is such a great violinist, why wouldn't he make sure that he played the best he could? I don't know. But it seems to me at least, that in some places, he plays with quite a lot of power puts his back into it, but in other places it lacks brileance. But don't complain unless you can do better. But I highly recomend Miklos Szenthelyi's recording Max Bruch Con, IT IS AMAZING!!!
Itzak the great !.......2007-02-06
I love it!
An Impressive Pairing of Concertos.......2006-10-21
In addition to the bargain price of this 1990 recording the music lover will find two of the more solid performances of two very popular and demanding violin concertos from the vast repertoire available. Itzhak Perlman is in top form for these performances, marrying his impeccable technique with the poetry inherent in his approach to the scores. The Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor, Op. 26 by Max Bruch has become one of Perlman's signature pieces and for good reason. He tosses off this stagy work with such grace that it becomes more than most violinists are capable of finding in the score. It is a jewel of a performance.
The Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64 by Felix Mendelssohn has been a staple in the repertoire since its composition in 1844-45 and the hurdles of the first movement cadenza have threatened even the most daunting of violinists. The passagework is extraordinarily demanding technically, yet even more difficult is finding the poetry inherent in the lines echoed later in the orchestra. Some soloists (including Joshua Bell) may find more lightness and delicacy in the execution, but few can match Perlman's dexterity and emotional sweep.
The Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, still one of the finest orchestras, is beautifully conducted by Bernard Haitink. The balance between orchestra and soloist is far more than just technical aplomb between the artists and engineers: these performances are examples of perfect communication between soloist and conductor and orchestra, making this recording one of the strongest available today. Grady Harp, October 06
A poetic performance of a dramatic work.......2005-06-20
The problem with Perlman's Bruch concerto version is precisely that...¡is perfect!, he makes a lyrical or poetic version in a concerto that is more a dramatic piece than a poetic work, and conductor Bernard Haitink is a correct but also a moderate or austere conductor. But in my opinion Bruch's concerto requires passion, fire, emotion, and because of that I prefer Salvatore Accardo-Kurt Masur version with the Gewandhaus Orch. in Philips, now edited in "eloquence" a bargain collection from Universal. Other excellent versions are Arthur Grumiaux-Heinz Wallberg performance with the Philharmonia Orch., and legendary Oistrach-von Matacic version. In Mendelssohn's concerto is also preferable the Christian Ferras-Constantin Silvestri version with the Philharmonia Orch., a 1958 remastered recording, reedited in ROYAL CLASSICS, with an exceptional Beethoven's violin concerto version with the Royal Philharmonic Orch. conducted by the famous conductor Malcolm Sargent, or Nathan Milstein-Abbado version conducting Vienna Philharmonic Orch. in DG. Oscar Olavarría A.
no complaints.......2005-03-17
This CD is excellent, as the other reviewers have said. Two of my favorite violin concertos, played sensitively and brilliantly by the masters. It makes for a very passionate, flooring bit of music.

cello lover.......2007-05-31
Absoluty the best. It is no wonder she was the world premier cello artist!! Can't say enough. If you love cello, and classical music, this is a must have. Her whole collection is worth every penny!!!
99% perspiration.......2006-11-08
(4.5/5 stars) This is a two-disc collection of musical works, in which the great cellist Jacqueline du Pre plays. The first disc consists of three cello concerti by three different composers: Dvorak (Romantic), Haydn (Classical) and Elgar (Romantic). Very good music, though it might leave you wondering what all the fuss is about. Not to worry: just pop in Disc Two to find out. The second disc contains shorter works by a wider variety of composers. It also might just leave you breathless by its beauty. Saint-Säens' "The Swan" (from "Carnival of the Animals") is nearly indescribable in its elegance, with du Pre's cello dancing with a harp. This haunting recording should not be missed. Bruch's "Kol Nidrei" is magnificently gorgeous as well. Three fantasy pieces from Schumann, one of Mendelssohn's "Lieder Ohne Wörter" and a stunning Brahms sonata infuse this collection with genuine grace. Since these were recorded prior to the advent of digital recordings, you might hear a very slight hiss on some of the recordings. This is barely audible and really does not detract from the pleasure of listening to it. Each disc runs 75 minutes, making this inspiration last long indeed.
Immortal Legend.......2006-10-07
As a cellist, I grew up listening to Jacqueline Du Pre's recordings. Even now as a 35 year old, I'm still enthralled by her amazing talent. This is a great cd if one is looking for a wonderful introduction to this superb cellist or simply wants to savor her most well known recordings. Du Pre owned the "Elgar" concerto. No other words can summarize this fact. Other beautiful and moving pieces are here on this disc: Bruch "Kol Nidrei", Haydn "Concerto No.2", Faure "Elegie", Brahms "Concerto No.2". The cello is a difficult instrument to play due to the strength required in both hands. Du Pre's playing touches the heartstrings with both emotion and depth. The tone that she coaxes from her cello is amazing. Jacqueline Du Pre is a legend.
Epitome of Cello.......2006-06-23
As a cellist, I absolutely love du Pré's work. I actually found this CD when I was looking for a modern recording of "A Jacqueline du Pré Recital", a record compiled of pieces done between July 15, 1962 and April 1, 1969. The second CD in this set contains the same songs as that record.
The concertos on the first CD are spectacular, especially her rendition of the Elgar concerto which has defined the piece since she first performed it. The second CD, however, is just as wonderful as a collection of some of the most loved cello pieces. No cello recording complete without Saint Saen's "The Swan" and du Pré's version is the only one I've ever heard that I actually like. "Elégie in C minor" (composed by Gabriel Fauré) is one of my personal favorites especially since her rapport with the pianist is obvious and the two instruments blend in a way that makes the piece even more poignant.
Overall, this CD is a must-have for anyone who loves cello as a perfect sample of Jacqueline du Pré's work.
Ooo! Samples!.......2005-11-29
As far as the romantic period goes, Jacqueline Du Pre is my personal favorite 'cellist. Her sensitivity to put expression of the musical idea always outweighed the desire to appear impressive. There is a difference in being just a virtuoso and being a musician. A virtuoso has the capability to dazzle and amaze, but music is more than just being impressive, and Du Pre succeeds in becoming, in every sense, a musician first and foremost. The only complaint I have of this album is the fact that you only get one movement of each piece! Even so, this a wonderful "sample dish" of Du Pre's extraordinary playing, mainly meant to get you hooked so you can get more.

Customer Reviews:
soothing.......2007-05-28
It's not a bad CD, although I believe there has got to be a better rendition of The Swan somewhere out there. The problem with this version is that the piano overwhelms the cello playing.
The rest of the CD is pretty nice and relaxing. Worth what I paid for it.
great gift idea.......2007-01-13
My wife is a lover of a good cello, so when I gave her this disc for Christmas, she loved it!
Everyday Cello.......2004-03-23
I bought this CD solely based on the fact that I love the cello. I do not pretend to know classical music - I buy what I like to hear, and this CD exceeded my expectations. It is such a pleasure to listen to this disk; it is soothing and every track is worth it!
75 minutes of meditative music.......2001-12-13
The cello is almost always the instrument I turn to for relaxation. It meditates upon a deeper, slower spectrum of emotion than say, a harp or violin.
I put this CD to the ultimate test and took it to the hospital with me, to see if its music could counteract the threat and ultimate deployment of needles---and it was indeed much less painful to be poked while in a state of relaxation, as induced by these (mainly 19th century) compositions.
My two favorite selections from "Cello for Relaxation" are Camille Saint-Saëns' "The Swan" from "Carnival of the Animals," and John Tavener's "Chant," which is an unaccompanied melody, "without barlines or meter, shaped as a palindrome." Steven Isserles performs as the cello soloist for both of these compositions.
In my continuing search for relaxation music, this CD now rates as number one. Its music was selected with a sensitivity to dynamics, and beautiful, adagio playing. Its musicality is superb and unobtrusively displayed, and allows the listener to meditate, or relax into much-needed sleep.

Customer Reviews:
Heavenly.......2007-06-06
A collection of masters that insist that you relax as you listen. An exquisit addition to any music cd collection.
What a value!.......2005-07-26
A wonderful collection of music spanning from the Baroque to the Modern and so Affordable. Each CD is in a full size jewel-case with beautiful cover art - paintings of Renaissance-era angels in muted, slightly reflective, metal-tone inks - all within a box that ties them all together. There are no liner notes in the booklet, just track listings, but the music speaks for itself. It's not completely apparent from the track listing who the composers are, so here's the breakdown: Disc 1 - Vivaldi's "Four Seasons"; Disc 2 - Vivaldi flute concertos; Disc 3 and 4 - Bach Brandonburg concertos; Disc 5 - Bach violin concertos; Disc 6 - Handel concerto grossi; Disc 7 - Handel organ concertos; Disc 8 - Flute concertos by Quantz, Heinchen, Buffardin, Adolph-Hasse; Disc 9 - Mozartt violin concertos; Disc 10 - Mozart horn concertos; Disc 11 - Mozart piano concertos; Disc 12 - Haydn cello concertos; Disc 13 - Haydn violin concertos; Disc 14 - Tchaikovsky violin concerto and piano concerto; Disc 15 - Paganini and Chausson violin concertos; Disc 16 - Bruch and Mendelssohn violin concertos; Disc 17 - Brahms concertos; Disc 18 - Dvorak and Hindesmith cello concertos; Disc 19 - Russian composers Prokofiev, Galzanov and Shoshakovich violin concertos; Disc 20 - Spanish guitar concertos of Rodrigo, Sor, Granados, Albeniz and de Falla.
Average customer rating:

Customer Reviews:
Good compilation- of bits and pieces.......2007-07-02
I was excited to see such a great collection of classics, but I was really disappointed to listen and discover that many tracks are shortened dramatically. A fraction of Rhapsody in Blue- a ridiculously short fragment of Bethoveen Ninth Symphony- "Ode to Joy" a tiny part of the first movement of Rachmoninov's Piano Concerto no.3.
I'd rather have fewer tracks and the complete movements.
Good and inexpensive collection.......2007-03-17
EMI's Best Classics 100 provides six CDs with seven hours of selected classical music. The cover does a poor job of portraying who does the selecting and who performs the piece -- information inside however does detail the symphonies being recorded. Recordings from the Polish Chamber, Berlin Symphonies, Royal Philharmonic etc are mentioned. The recording quality is good and the price is low, representing a good purchase for a general collection.

really like it.......2007-03-05
This is the first classical cd I have ever bought. The two-disc album was a great price. I really love the performance of Lynn Harrell. I like the collection of Adagios because they are perfect to fall asleep to or study to.

Customer Reviews:
Some of Heifetz's best, in state-of-the-art sound.......2007-01-18
This hybrid SACD release couples the Vieuxtemps No. 5 and Bruch Scottish Fantasy performances, originally released on one LP, with a recording of the Bruch No. 1 done with the same forces. Heifetz's blazing technique and intense vibrato often seemed best to serve what in other hands could be second-rate music; in the Bruch works especially he brings to urgent, passionate life passages that can easily sound slack and sentimental. The Scottish Fantasy was a signature work of the violinist, and Malcolm Sargent and the then-New Symphony Orchestra of London match him in intensity and accuracy of execution (though the finale is shortened substantially in accordance with Heifetz's preferred version). The Vieuxtemps seems marginally less involved emotionally, but if anything the execution is even more accurate--the thorniest passages have not one note out of place. This is a great way to introduce a new generation of listeners to the art of this ageless legend, especially at a bargain price.
A great introduction to a legend.......2006-10-24
This is one of my first Heifetz cds and one of the favorties in my collection. The orchestra plays exceptionally well and gives the Bruch VC a driven pace that compliments Heifetz's style. Like a well made movie thriller Heifetz builds suspense and tension in all the right places.
The Scottish Fantasy is a real gem. Played with feeling and flare and perfect tone. It is no wonder why Heifetz is considered one of the best that ever held a bow.
The recording is also fantastic for it's time. I did not listen to the SACD tracks but the redbook material is of good quality.
Four and one-half stars.......2006-05-18
Here is another successful SACD reincarnation of Romantic era music by Jascha Heifitz, who was probably the most accomplished violinist of the 20th century and the stereo recording era. These recordings, made in 1961-62 for RCA, are substantially improved in this issue even though it in only a two-track stereo super audio disk.
I own these exact recordings on a Japanese issue stereo CD (see my Amazon review) where I detail the outstanding musical content including the ultra-reliable and superb accompniment given the soloist by conductor Malcolm Sargent and the (then) New Symphony Orchestra of London.
Musically, what is most impressive on this CD is Heifitz's commitment to Bruch's oddball creation, the Scottish Fantasy, and his personal involvement in the music. Heifitz was often considered a machine in his prime, which coincided with the 20th century burgeoning of the era of literalism in classical music and recordings. Everyone admired Heifitz technical skill, which was one of a kind, but many questioned his blood and guts involvement with music.
I saw and heard Heifitz in concert once near the end of his career. He seems totally disinterested although his technique and searing tone were just as riveting as ever. In the Scottish Fantasy on this disk, he seems a different person, totally immersed in the wonders of the strange score, which appears to be a concerto but is a hybrid not easily defined. His artistry here is unparalleled and it is not far different in Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1.
Heifitz is not as personally invovled in the Vieuxtemps masterpiece, although Sargent shines as the accompanist more than in the others. While Heifitz lacks the same fire as in the Bruch, listen to the way Sargent drives the orchestra during the long tutti late in the first movement between Heifitz soloes.
The reason I gave this 4 1/2 stars instead of five is the sound quality on the Vieuxtemps, which is a notch below that in the two Bruch works. It is still good for a 1962 recording transferred to SACD but, considering it is stereo and not three channel, it remains a bit of a disappointment.
Elsewhere the sound is spectacular and allows many felicitous touches of the score to be heard clearly that weren't apparent in the stereo version. Listen for gentle timpani strokes during the slow movement of the Bruch concerto, a gentle cimbal crash during the open of the Scottish Fantasy, and Heifitz thumping his bow at the end of the allegro.
In addition, the sound stage for both Bruch works is very open, spacious and natural with Heifitz clearly defined off the conductor's right shoulder. The perspective is on stage, even better than first row, without being in your face or larger than life.
Good notes about the music, Heifitz the man, the history of RCA Living Stereo and the SACD process liven this package and make it even more desirable. This is an excellent reissue of romantic warhorses by one of the world's most accomplished soloists, supported by a reliable conductor and orchestra in sound that is nearly competitive with original DSD recordings from 2006. For its list price of $11, this is outstanding value.

Concerto No. 3 Gaining Popularity.......2006-05-18
The Bruch 3rd Violin Concerto sounds like the younger sister of the Brahms Violin Concerto. However, the sister is less serious and much sexier.
One of the reasons I stopped going to symphony concerts was the constant repetition of a few concertos. The Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Beethoven, etc. concerti are played so often, most regular concertgoers must have them memorized. A friend of mine thinks conductors do not want to use their very limited rehearsal time on concerti so only the most familiar are played. If that is the case, why not simply play an over familiar symphony when you play a unfamiliar concerto. Everything would balance out. The Bruch 3rd Violin Concerto is a wonderful piece, especially the highly heroic second theme of the first movement. It should be played much more often.
Fortunately, it is gaining ground. Amazon now lists 5 recordings of the piece. However, none of them are by the most famous violinists. Salvadore Accordo was a sensational violinist when he recorded all the works on this double CD but he was never as famous as Perlman. But Perlman only recorded the first concerto of Bruch, as is the case with almost every famous violinist for the last 100 years. Hopefully, that will change.
As I said Accordo was a sensational violinist with a tone that was huge and beautiful and a technique second to none. The performances here are first class in every way. This CD should be in every serious collection.
One of the best of the Romantic Era.......2005-01-26
Having discovered Max Bruch's works much later than those of Mozart, Beethowen, Bach, Haydn, Schubert or Tchaikovsky, I feel that he is one of the most underrated or underappreciated composers. While he may not be right up there with the titans, his violin concertos are a pure delight to the ear, although Mendelssohn's influence is quite obvious. Personally I prefer the first concerto, op 26, which took him 9 years to write. It was dedicated to the great hungarian violinist Joseph Joachim, who apparently, along with Willy Hess, helped the author during the final revisions of the concerto. I read somewhere that Hess performed himself the premières of many of Max Bruch's works, and later Bruch would compose the concert piece for violin and orchestra op 84 especially for Hess.
Max Bruch may not be one of the most productive composers ever, but his first violin concerto and especially "Kol Nidrei" are a pure delight to the ear.
If you have a real passion for classical music and, like me recently, you are just discovering Max Bruch's music, chances are that his themes will stay in your head for quite a while. What a brilliant composer!
The Complete Violin Concertos of Max Bruch........2003-12-18
This is an excellent compilation, which includes, of course, the famous 1st Violin Concerto, admirably played by orchestra (Kurt Masur conducting) and violinist Salvatore Accardo.
This is a double-disc, and while that 1st concerto can be found on disc 1 (accompanied by the 2nd concerto and Serenade for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 75), disc 2 contains some real surprises (for me, at least): Serenade For Violin and Orchestra, Op. 75 (concl.) and the 3rd Violin Concerto.
Other reviewers spoke about the 3rd here, and after giving it ample attention I must say in my very humble opinion that it bears the signs of a possible classic; certainly the first movement is great.
That 'mystery' 3rd concerto was for me the reason to buy it, and I hope you'll enjoy it, too. As for the sound ... I think it's fine, not at all shrill to my ears; but that's just me, maybe.
Last of all, this CD contains the Scottish Fantasy, Op. 46. Quite a lot of material, while the price is about right ...
Fantastic.......2003-01-01
I'm happy buying the CD's from Accardo, only see Accardo in the CD-Case and you know, something good is inside there. Now talking about this particular CD, is amazing the Max Bruch work. Accardo playing incredible the third concert, a beautiful concert, like the other reviewers I agree, that this concert must be included in the violinist repertoire. Why always the #1 Concert of Bruch, Why always the Wieniawski #2, if those composers has other big master works. Now the technich of the violinist like the the materials of his strings, help so much to perform this works. A Bravo for Mr. Accardo in the release of this work. Accardo is a big master of the violin, and always you could associate with Paganini works, but is incredible listen him in other master works, like Bruch, Wieniawski, etc. I hope that he include in his futures CD's unknown concerts for the public in general like Fiorillo, Rode, Viotti, etc.
The Grossly Underrated Concerto #3 played with extreme color.......2002-12-12
This cd was chosen for the GROSSLY overlooked Concerto No 3, I couldn't believe this piece is not played more often!
Do you wish you could find a new and fresh concerto and are sick of listening to or playing the standard ones over and over? Well this is the CD you want for sure then! Bruch was like most composers: a hopeless romantic. There are so many pieces of unquestionable power and beauty he has written. All of the concertos by Bruch are soothing and relaxing and make for a perfect atmosphere of beauty and romance.
It is well known about Mr. Accardo's collection of great violins and his ability to change from a Strad to a Guarneri. Here he presents an unbelievable display of awesome tone from his violin, a lot better than the other recordings I have heard by him. His vibrato is lush and phrasing is wonderful here.
Many people put Accardo's abilities down, based on his performances of Paganini or Haydn concertos. While I do not fully recommend those recordings, if you have been biased by his other recordings, you will be surprised at the beauty of this CD. I submit that the recording of Concerto 3 here is completely essential and necessary.
While the Concerto 1 is played very well here, I recommend Kyung Wha Chung's live recording paired with the Beethoven. For the Scottish Fantasy, check out Rabin and Heifetz. Make sure to check out the Bruch Double Concerto too, totally awesome music with warmth and power!
To all professional violin players out there: please consider putting the Bruch Concerto 3 in your repertoire, it is awesome!

Pieces, playing, and price: all excellent.......2007-07-05
I really don't like to review a CD based upon price. I'd rather pay more to have a great CD than pay less for a mediocre one.
In this case, though, you get some great works by Bruch, played wonderfully by Meyer, at an obscenely low price.
I've had reservations with Warner Apex because of a previous CD and the poor sound quality; but that is not an issue on this CD.
Overall, a great purchase for any classical fan.
Must Be Heaven.......2006-08-17
Bruch: Works for Clarient and Viola must be the music that is played in heaven. You will surely think you are there, when listening to these soul soothing yet most dramatic sounds. It is simply beautiful and may be the best hour of your day(actually about 65 minutes).Bruch, an already much admired composer and teacher of the mid 19th century to early 20th, composed these works during the later years.
Opening with a "Concerto for Clarinet, Viola and Orchestra in E minor, OP.88, the three movements (Andante con moto,Allegro moderato, and Allegro molto), will take your breath away, as the music seems to float in the air around you.
Next up are 8 pieces for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, Op.83 to savour. Each instrument and every track with it's own personality. Sometimes sweet, or solemn, other times happy, lively,or more dramatic, at times powerful. Some of the pieces are "Andante in A Minor", "Allegro agitato in D minor", and Moderato in E flat minor"(see buying ino page for a complete list of tracks.
The final section is "Romance for Viola and Orchestra in F major, Op.85. One gorgeous track, the 7 and a half minute, "Andante con moto".Music that more than lives up to it's title. It may have you swooning.
Kent Nagano and the Lyon Opera Orchestra, with Paul Meyer on Clarinet, Gerard Causse, viola, and Francois-Rene Duchable piano, perform Bruch with perfection. There are 12 tracks in total. They range from 2:22 to 7:49. Most are a good length. The CD is an excellent quality, and includes an insert with a notes on Max Bruch and his music.
I would highly recommend this album to lovers of instrumental classical. It's an album that you should take with you on long scenic drives to add to the beauty of your visual pleasure, or at times you may be stuck in traffic, to ease your drive(be careful though, if you feel like conducting, make sure no one is watching!). Not bad for a wonderfully atmospheric evening, or lazing Sunday morning as well.
Enjoy it whenever the mood or need hits...Laurie
Wonderful pieces filled with wonderful memories.......2006-03-23
My late fiance and I played half of the 8 pieces for our recitals and we both loved them. It is what drew us together as a couple. These pieces are beautiful and each are so different that taking them out of context is fine too. We even gave each one that we played together their own titles. I love the Clarinet & Viola combination very much (espically the Kegelstatt!) and will miss my beloved duet partner.
I highly recommend this CD as it is an enjoyable experience! You will not be disappointed...Bruch is a truly wonderful composer!
Polite & reserved.......2006-03-16
The music is polite and soothing and good background music. Nothing that I could sink my teeth into.
I had to smile at Mr. Bryson's comments below when said that he wants to get to know Bruch's music as well as he knows Brahms and said that he knows of no other composer besides Bruch that has written for the combination of clarinet & viola or violin. Actually, the use of clarinet in chamber music is not that rare. Mozart's trio for Trio for clarinet, viola & piano in E flat major ("Kegelstatt"), K. 498 is one such work and another is Robert Schumann's Märchenerzählungen for clarinet, viola & piano, Op. 132. And, of course, both Beethoven and Brahms wrote clarinet/cello/piano trios with the cello having about the same role as the viola.
superlative.......2005-10-15
This is a great deal! The viola/clarinet concerto is a jighly enjoyable work in the romantic tradition and the clarinet/piano pieces while slightly less approachable are really excellent. The sound is good and the price can't be beaten.

Wonderful.......2005-11-07
An excellent compilation of folk tunes and violin concerto adagios, played masterfully by some of the world's most revered musicians. Features modern pieces (Korngold, Barber), which are a personal favorite of mine.
Thanks you Decca.......2005-01-23
My daughter is a violin student of 7 years and she has played 3 or 4 of these pieces for recitals. I bought the CD's so she could become familiar with the pieces as she was learning to play them. Now I find myself listening to the CD's almost every night when I go for my end of the day drive to relax. My favorites are the Mozart Concerto in G, the Mendelssohn Concerto in E minor and Beethoven's Romance in F on disc 2, but all the songs are exquisitely beautiful. I highly recommend it.
Exquisite music for the soul.......2004-06-14
These CDs have the most incredible selections of music on them. Listening to the violins has enabled me to complete papers for my doctoral level classes without the usual neck aches. This is soothing, exquistie music for the soul! Lovely!!
Indeed a joy forever!.......2003-05-22
Before buying this 2 CD set,I've read Reviews by Chicagodreamer,
who rated it as "Highly, highly recommended." His laudatory recommentation, I must say, is found "well justified."
Exquisite collection & performances, unbelievable value!!!.......2002-01-15
"Over 2 l/2 hours of the world's most beautiful music." These words on the cover are very close to true. What an incredible value this collection is!! So many of these compilations of this sort are cheaply produced, and those "greatest hits" collections are one trite piece after another -- after a while one runs screaming to the stereo to shut it off. However, this collection is top-notch, and the performers they chose are masterful musicians at the top of their game. Every selection is lovely, each one unfolding after the other in a sublime slide show of exquisite compositions performed by legends. This is TWO CDs of sparkling performances composed and performed by masters. There is not a bad selection or a piece of inferior quality in the entire lot.
The violin is an extraordinary instrument that, when played correctly, can pluck the heartstrings and stir the soul. It is played perfectly by each puppetmaster on each one of these wonderful pieces, and the experience of listening to this collection is an exquisite journey for the heart and spirit. Looking for a fantastic collection of exquisite pieces written and performed by genius? It's here. Highly, highly recommended!!
