Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of my favourites.......2004-02-29

Unlike too many young composers, Whalen has a sense of what is musical, beautiful and melodic. This album combines pieces for orchestra, smaller ensembles and soloists, but it weaves a thread through all of the pieces that makes it seem as if it is one cohesive piece. It is immensely listenable music, suitable for the background if so desired, but also worth sitting and listening to with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. Turn off the lights and let your mind travel with the composer. Whalen has the melodic and painterly quality of Aaron Copland, the accessibility of Maurice Ravel and the ability to "see" his music like George Gershwin.

I found this album quite by accident, but it has become one of my favourites. In fact, I love it so much that I have two copies, one for the house and one for the car.
