"Fields' 'Kabala': ...numerous surprises...Much recommended!"
From the Artist
"...from slavery unto freedom, from sorrow to joy, from mourning to festivity, from darkness to bright light, from bondage to redemption. Therefore let us sing a new song..." When the ancients recorded those sentiments in the liturgy for Passover, they gave voice to the realization that new music is a special treasure, an emotional turning point. I am pleased to offer this collection of splendid performances by brilliant performers, for your own emotional experience.
Album Description
After demonstration blasts upon the shofar, Andrew Glendening's trombone quartet launches into Call of the Shofar--a double fugue on themes from Jewish liturgy, punctuated by mock shofar calls. Libor Dudas plays the rapid harpsichord toccatta Summer Mischief, and then Pieter Blonk is heard playing the work Sh`mah upon the Albany City Hall Carillon. In Rooster's Court Ball, Michael Laderman plays a six-movement flute partita, each baroque dance whimsically attributed to a different animal. The Czech Chamber Players finish with Kabala, a daring work for clarinet, viola, and piano.
