Editorial Reviews
Camargo Guarnieri (1907-1993)
As a musician of impressive creative and a remarkably personalized style, Camargo Guarnieri possesses a form of expression that is characterized by a perfect balance between emotion and reason. He was not a product of European music, he has been drawing from his Brazilian roots from the beginning, and has continued to grow from their nurturing. At the start of his career, his mentor was the Italian composer and conductor Lamberto Baldi. Later he worked on perfecting his style in Paris with Charles Koechlin ( musical aesthetics and composition) and Charles Munch ( orchestra's conducting). His cultural development is owed to a friend and collaborator, the greater writer Mario de Andrade, the most brilliant mind of his time, and pioneer of modernism in Brazil.

Guarnieri, one of the honoured musicians, is a composer of very Brazilian rythms and possessor of impeccable technical control. He is considered to have composed the most polyphonic music of our times. His rich harmonic language extends from folkloric modalism to virtual atonality, including even a few experiments with serialism.
