5 out of 5 stars Rhythmically sound with a raucous punch!.......2001-06-26

An interesting coupling of two chamber symphonies (one from the old world and one from the new) yet, Adams himself admits his work is only a superficial resemblance to its predecessor. His chamber symphony served as a mere starting point for a new and challenging compositional format.

What is REALLY interesting, here, is the virtuosic flare with which Absolute Ensemble performs both works. Their energy is relentless and hyperactive, ready to outplay any of today's chamber ensembles. Their frighteningly rhythmic preciseness in the Adams will make you jump out of your chair, and they even make Schoenberg's old Chamber Symphony sound refreshingly new.
