Best songs Album.......2007-01-10
The songs are very rhythmic and dance able.
This collection of Herman's hermits hits is great and happy and some a little mellow.
A classic treasure of their music and times.
What's here is good, but..........2006-09-01
What's here is good, but it is missing some of their hits like "Leaning On The Lamp Post", "Museum" and one of my favorites "Don't Go Out Into The Rain". It seems to be common practice when record companies release "greatest hits" collections to leave off a few hits and replace them with some forgettable album cut or B-sides that never received air-play. I don't understand what they are thinking when they do this. With 25 songs on this CD, they could have included ALL of their hits and still had room for some of their better non-hit songs. Their "Retrospective" CD is better.
Herman's Hermits - 'Very Best Of Herman's Hermits' (EMI).......2006-06-19
As it turns out, this is the one-disc version of the 2-CD title of the same name, but with a different cover(see my review).A good collection of the British Invasion band's repertoire, but how many time must these labels put out 'best of' compilations? As I put the CD in my player,I checked out the twenty-five cuts,as usual, with a few of the highlights being "I'm Into Something Good","Wonderful World","Sunshine Girl","Dandy",etc.By today's standards, this is pretty innocent material.Pretty much aimed toward the completists.
Tremendous Charm.......2006-01-22
I well recall singing "Henry VIII" in the playground. It was the 1960s, and Herman's Hermits seemed to be everywhere: on the radio, on the jukebox, on home hi-fi stereos. It was a very popular band, so much so that it was often mentioned in the same breath with The Beatles--and indeed the two bands had a fair amount in common when they first began their careers. But where The Beatles would mutate with the passing years and grow into several unexpected directions, Herman's Hermits remained exactly what it had always been: a charming pop band with a fresh-faced and boyish-looking lead singer. His name was Peter Noone.
Truth be told, it was really Noone who made the band; although the rest of the boys certainly appeared on stage with Noone, they were seldom used to any extent in the recordings that made Herman's Hermits such an unqualified success on both sides of the Atlantic during the "English Invasion." Noone had a rather plantive voice with working-class accents and he gave his vocals a light touch, eschewing long notes, high notes, and other showy expressions--and the result was almost conversational and truly charming.
Then as now, tastes in music differed between England and America, and while Herman's Hermits scored numerous hits in both countries during the 1960s they were not always the same ones. This inexpensive compilation makes the best of worlds, presenting most of the bands hits regardless of on which side of the Atlantic they occurred. While both American and English listeners will recognize a good chunk of the songs, each will discover ones they never knew existed.
In terms of sound, the recordings date from the 1960s and they show it, but they've been brushed up quite a bit for this release and the result is a nice if not always top-notch sound. Whatever the case, it's all a lot of innocent, 1960s pop fun, and while it may not convert modern youth to the sound, those who recall the band's glory days will enjoy it greatly.

Decent .......2005-11-16
I amit Hermens Hermets have some good songs like there,s a kind of hush and something tells me. But the best band from the uk and America and I am an American the Beatles are simply the best band ever. I love contempory Christian praise and worship. Yes I am A Christian and this music is decnet so much better than today,s Heavy Metal. GodBless

The Very Best of Classics IV.......2007-05-16
excellent hits from a group that has been long forgotten. all the tracks are great songs.the best thing is that the CLASSICS IV greatest hits are all on this cd.
Loved It Then, Love It Now.......2007-05-06
This cd really brings back memories of teenage hot summer nights. It's relaxing and perfect chill out music for when you are driving, house cleaning or just want to relive the past.
One Terrific Lick Doth Not A Career Make.......2005-03-09
On the basis of "Spooky"--and, especially, the guitar lick that never lets up (until it's time to sound that from-a-B-horror-flick whistle and that curdling saxophone solo, that is)--this Georgia quintet should have developed into an insinuating and harmless white soul band, with one unforgettable piece of blue-eyed soul kitcsch to show for it. There are far worse ways to be remembered.
Unfortunately, the Classics found them. The trouble was, "Spooky's" was also the guitar lick they couldn't let go of if they tried and--when derived and applied to progressively lighter-weight followups, from the wannabe-jazzy "Stormy" to the intro of the sugary weepie "Traces" (the lyric, especially the first verse, is actually very effective, and deserved much better music) to the truly unforgivable "Everyday With You, Girl"--it proved only that rare are the birds who can forge entire careers upon or spun off one lick on any instrument, never mind a guitar, never mind when anything other than their singles was barely worth a sample hearing.
The shame was that the Classics were a solid enough little band otherwise, and Dennis Yost was a pleasant enough singer who might have gone further with superior material, but as things turned out it was the other way around: Yost all but disappeared, for years, into the land of trivia contests and the occasional oldies show, while various Classics members went further, for awhile. You have heard of them, perhaps: the Atlanta Rhythm Section.
That the Classics IV have reformed testifies either to stubbornness or to chutzpah. Whether they manage to eke out a new full career, considering the stillbirth of their old one, is anyone's guess. If you can find a CD single of "Spooky," you are far better served. And so, in the end, are they.
Timeless.......2003-05-30
I love this music and will never get tired of it. Sounds just as fresh today as ever. I wish this group was still proforming.
Buy , close your eyes and enjoy:))
One track... but what a track!.......2002-02-13
Although a couple of its members went on to much better things with the Atlanta Rhythm Section, most of Classics IV's late 60's music falls squarely into the "not really worth the effort" drawer. But... in amongst their catalogue of distinctly MOR white soul there is one quite brilliant track: "Spooky". Featuring a ridiculously catchy organ riff, beautifully atmospheric vocals, a wonderfully gutsy sax break and a chugging bass line that sounds as though it was recorded in the studio's broom cupboard it was, and still is, instantly unforgettable. Straight to No 1 in the USA, lost without trace in the UK and voted by Brian Wilson no less as the best single ever made in UK's "Mojo" magazine several years ago it's a near perfect, 5 star plus, slice of pop genius that probably justifies the cost of this album on its own.

Great album.......2006-05-15
Album's great! A must have for any CD doo wop collection. "Til then" is the best song on album. Quality music at it's finest!
Awful........2005-04-29
This is the worst record I own. All the songs seem rushed, the quality of the recording suck$. I never imagined a classic like blue moon could sound so bad. The only good song is "Wrap your Troubles in Dreams," an interesting take on the song made famous by Sinatra.
Classic.......2002-10-28
Great doo wop album from its time. Who can't remember dancing with his best gal to Til Then???

Great CD.......2007-04-26
I'll tell you why......The blurry words ARE SUPPOSED to sound like this.
The Kingsmen didn't achieve their success by slow and clear vocalization.
The subject of President Hoover's investigation and a book on the studies of lyrical content, the legendary song Louie,Louie is still fresh and exciting as well as the other songs.
For Kingmen fan, I highly recommend this CD.
Stereo versions of most of their songs.......2005-12-23
Your better off getting the Rhino collection as it is in mono. This CD is in stereo and is more of a curio. The songs have no power in stereo and sound like different mixes. By the way, no comp by the Kingsmen includes the single mix of "Little Latin Lupe Lu". That version has dubbed in percussion and guitars and the vocals are higher in the mix. Unless your a stereo fanatic, don't buy this one.
DON'T BOTHER LOUIE LOUIE IS THE ONLY CUT WORTH ANYTHING........1998-11-05
I'D HAVE GIVEN 1/2 A STAR IF I COULD HAVE. THE SOUND QUALITY IS NOT GOOD EVEN ON CD.THE KINGSMEN MUST HAVE A RULE:NEVER PRONOUNCE MORE THAN 2 WORDS PER SONG.NOT WORTH ANOTHER WORD!
