I am a great Teddy Pendergrass fan I have all of the cds and whatever dvd is available. For this particular cd it is truly one for the bedroom. Sexy, Sexy just for cuddling with your special someone. Purchase and you will not be sorry, light some candles and just listen and soothe your mind to the greatest voice that ever lived. Love you Teddy Pendergrass and the compilation is truly awesome and fantastic. This man can sing now doubt about it.

It's hard to believe it took until 2004 for somebody to anthologize Teddy's stay at Elektra. After his auto accident, Pendergrass left Philadelphia International and signed with Elektra. 14 of the 16 songs on this CD are from that era and it covers the years 84-93. Rhino throws in 2 Philly years ringers: "Close The Door" and "Turn Off The Lights" to back up their title concept. Besides the R&B hits, this also covers some album tracks, and is a decent look at his Elektra stint. Some people say this era wasn't as strong as the Philly years, but there's enough great songs here like "Joy" and "You're My Choice Tonight" (the latter written and Produced by Luther Vandross), as well as his last R&B #1 as of 2004, "It Should've Been You", to refute that claim. There's also one song that stands with the 2 ringers here, "Love 4/2" that's as good as anything Teddy has ever recorded. The only weak link on this CD are the liner notes. A useless 5 page reminiscece by a Tracy H. New that offers no insight into Teddy's career or his Elektra years. If you have his Greatest Hits CD or the Anthology CD than this is a must have for your collection.

This collection, unlike a lot of others on the market, boasts excellent sound transfers and an intelligent selection of genuine club tracks. It does however try to cover a number of bases in it's musical choices and as a result you may feel, like me, more fondly towards some tracks than others - in my case, I could easily have done without 'Whistle Bump', 'Do Your Dance' and Freddie James' rubbish 'Hollywood'. The other tracks however are very welcome on CD, especially Venus Dodson's little remembered 'Night Rider'. Overall this CD shows that there are some people out there that really care about the music. Well done and let's hope that this is the beginning of a series.

This collection exemplifies vintage disco, not the disco music
that was big on pop charts, but rather tracks which were most
frequently played at nightclubs where dancing was popular. Some
of the tracks in this wonderful compilation (ie. "Forbidden Love" by Madleen Kane and "Night Rider" by Venus Dodson) only
made the Club Charts, whereas others, such as Ashford and Simpson's "Found A Cure", received airplay on the Pop Charts. Nevertheless, if you are looking for rare, refreshing, danceable, and pure disco from the late 1970s, then this CD is for you!

This is a superb collection of full-length disco classics - none of your disappointing radio edits and definitely none of the usual rubbish that appears on every other second-rate collection. Stunning! Why didn't they make this a series - or would that have been tempting fate?

Since Vandross is an excellent, peerless contemporary R&B vocalist, this is an excellent opportunity for him to shine, and he does, particularly on "A House Is Not a Home," "Anyone Who Had a Heart," "Going Out of My Head" and "I (Who Have Nothing)."Vandross shines throughout the entire album, making it another treasure in his catalog. It would have been nice to hear Luther cover some of the modern songs that were big at that like Dru Hill's Beauty or Jagged Edge's Gotta Be, it's still a great collection.

This is probably one of my most treasured CD's of all time. Words just cannot describe the incredible talent this man had, and news of his untimely death was devastating. However, what he has left behind is truly amazing. Just to name a few of the songs from this CD; A House is not a Home, incredible!!!, Circles, amazing!!, I who have nothing (the duet), mesmirizing!!

And one of my favorites is Always and Forever! I hated this song years ago, when it was done by Heatwave (nothing against the group of course), but when Luther sang his rendition of it, it blew me away, and I have loved it ever since.

Luther's talent really amazed me! His voice, and the way he performed a song, took your thoughts and feelings to a whole other dimension. Places you never thought your mind could go, it went. Whatever your mood, Luther had a song for it.

You will be missed Luther. Your work is apparently done here on this earth, and may you now rest in peace, and thank you, for sharing your incredible talent with us all!!!!!

Always & Forever is a classic CD and I know its loved by many al the songs on the Cd is great. My favorite is Always & Forever. Luther is the Best Artist/songwriter that ever walked the surface of this earth. I won't to tell Luther and all of his family that he is in my pryers and will stay there until he fully recovers. I rate Luther Vandross CDs from a scale from 1-10 I give him 20. Luther is a great artist may GOD be with him.

The guy who died was a good friend of mind Ervin Matterson, we grew up together in Edmondson Village, we played ball, cards, hell we did a lot of things together, but Ervin would always go back to his music. I knew all the fellow in the band they used to come over my house and shoot pool, and have a lot of fun. When they used to practice, they used to some times practice in Ervin's back yard, and it would light up the community, and we would have a beatiful time partying, and dancing, what a wonderful guy. He was kill in a torrible way, he one of the greatest people you could have met. ALFRAZIA ROBINSON

I saw Pockets in 1977,when they toured with Earth Wind and Fire. The show was at the Baltimore Civic Center. They put on a great show. I have the album,that is signed by all of the band members. The guy I was dating at the time was a childhood friend of the Drummer. The drummer, George Grey has played on albums with some steller jazz players. One of the band members passed away. I am not sure what happened to the other members. I wish that they had stayed together. They were truly a great band.

Solid musicians. Good tunes. An R&B Funk Band that could lay it down. My favorites, of course are "Come go With Me" and "Pasado." But, this disc is good. Get it at a good price and be surprised. They really should have gotten more recognition back "in the day!" Four stars...

A very bright light, even if only for a moment. I saw Pockets in Pittsburgh, PA around 1977. They opened for EW&F. The lead singer sat on the edge of the stage and sang Elusive Lady. The ladies went crazy. This CD is a must have for me. Especially since I can't get my album back from my sister!

I like this CD because I get a very good classic soul mix, and I get to save a few dollars from not having to purchase a box set or anthology mix for the tunes I want to hear. For example, this is one of the few CDs that has that Jerry Butler/Brenda Lee cut "Ain't Understanding Mellow?" (a 'blue lights in the basement' track around here) that ain't in some [price] greatest hits compilation. I get The Commodores "Sweet Love" and Luther Ingram's classic "(If Loving You is Wrong) I don't Want to Be Right" on one CD. And I get the Ahhh-hah! without chasing down the right time they play certain of these jams on the classic R and Bee radio station here. Like, they seldom play that nice "Misty Blue" by Dorothy Moore. Well, I don't have to wait till the station decides to play it....

Of all the "70s Soul" albums crowding the market and the shelves, this one is among the best. From Barry White's opening plea to Jerry Butler's closing beseachment, the album flows like butter. Butter for your ears, that is. You really can't go wrong with the likes of Luther Ingram gracing your album, dig? If lovin' you is wrong, I don't wanna be right; if bein right means needing ANOTHER soul album besides this one then I'd rather live a wrongdoin life.

Those 2 artists are: Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson, they are just amazing. Latoya London is good, but more than slightly boring. Diana Degarmo is alright, but makes up for it with personality-plus. The rest of the group are DUDS, sorry. Get Fantasia's album, and wait for Jennifer's to come out, which I'm sure will be soon.

Amazon is selling this CD for .93 cents, but don't waste your money on it. For .93 cents I could buy a postage stamp and a piece of Bazooka Joe gum. This is nothing but karaoke music and you're way better off just downloading the songs from the original artists. And Leah Labelle should have been 2nd runner up on American Idol. She had charisma, style, and a voice. I'm waiting for her album to drop. So skip this and wait for Leah's album to come out.

I saw them in concert, the CD is tremendous. A must buy for anyone that follows the American Idol, or even for those that do not, great music, well done.

As a professional singer and Voice Teacher, I am so thrilled to see how American Idol has given the art of singing such a jump start in these last few years. These American Idol CDs and programs are filled with so much varying talents. From Hard rock to Country, America is becoming interested in identifying true talent. As an Opera Singer myself I can still enjoy the gifts of other genres and am sad to hear when others look down upon the show. Also, as a voice teacher of many styles I can't stress enough the need to my own students for them to develop themselves as a "Complete Unique Package". Finding their own true niche and style including: voice type, genre, best repertoire, to the the right audition outfit. American Idol teaches the same theories. Be true to yourself and your voice to get your best shot at this business of singing. I am an advocat for AI and all shows that encourage the high developement of arts in America. We come from a society that watched sports religiously on telievision (which is great) but there are so many talents to support including singing out there amongst us. American Idol gives artists and viewers a fantastic opportunity.

the main reason why i've bought this cd is just for the lovely ballad of "oh honey" it was well worth it to get it for that alone, the long version at that!! delegation should have made more beautiful ballads like that song,then more people would have bought their songs more if they made others like that!! turn on the blue lights in the basement,everybody !! j.h.

    The only thing that is wrong with this album is the fact that it's a short budget disc. It's from the same people that brought us bargain bin classic "Alternodaze"). From smooth jams like Howard Johnson's "So Fine" to timeless early hip hop like Salt N Pepa's "Push It" or Kurtis Blow's "The Breaks". The ultimate jams of the era are here like funky geniuses Rick James and George Clinton with signature songs "Super Freak" and "Atomic Dog", respectively. Do songs get more sampled that those two? I think not.

    This is post Europe disco and pre poppy R&B. This is the best of those early eighties with some unforgettable groups and artists. There is nothing to argue. You might not recognize the songs, but you will slowly grow to love them quite a bit.

    This album delivers solid songs from a wide range of artists. Funk is the basis of most West Coast hip hop. Don't hate just enjoy the music. If you don't like the music than you aren't a true funk fan.

    I am a dedicated fan of funk music - I went to see George Clinton this past summer - and I was very excited to get this CD. However, with the exception of the first track which is a great classic, this album is much closer to hip-hop than to funk. The problem truly lies in the fact the there were not really any great funk hits during the 80s. This album would be better titled, "Songs that have some semblence of funk, but sound like hip-hop, and happened to have been moderately popular in the 80s." OK, that's a terrible title, but "Funk Classics" leads one to assume that there will be funk music on the album, of which there is scarcely any.
