I bought this disc after buying the entire Complete Piano Music of Lecuona series on BIS label (5 volumes) by Tirino. Tirino is recognized as THE Lecuona authority in the world, and his Lecuona recordings stand as testaments of perfection for all time. I wanted to hear him in "other" repetoire as well.

I was ecstatic over this MacDowell recording! What a great find. I own other recordings of the MacDowell second concerto, but Tirino's is the BEST-unbelievable! And his playing in the First Piano Concerto shows unbelievably beuatiful singing quality, sound, and phrasing along with a cut-glass virtuosity that is absolutely incredible, almost inhuman. (Especially the third movement). I knew he could play great Lecuona, but he obviously is a major pianist in other repetoire as well and towers over other recordings of these works! If you are going to buy any recording of these concerti, this is THE one to have.
