JOHN WILLIAM'S LEGENDARY STAR WARS SOUNDTRACK ALBUM IS NOW RECORDED AND BROUGHT INTO THE DISCO SOUND CRAZE IN 1977. .......2007-05-06

I will be writing a review on the legendary album entitled "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK BY MECO" by one of Rock's most talented artists ever. I give you M-E-C-O! "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK" was originally released in 1977 on Vinyl/LP and Cassette on the Mercury Records label in association with PolyGram Records Inc. and Hip-O Records which is distributed by Universal Music & Video Distribution, Inc. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the overall best informative and most accurate review possible.

As we all well know, THE BEE GEES would forever change the Rock n' Roll world by revolutionizing the Disco craze of the 1970's with the Disco music soundtrack to the legendary 1977 movie "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER." Also in 1977, "STAR WARS," the very first original movie would appear on the theater movie screen and forever change the entire movie industry in special effects and how movie soundtracks would forever play a part in the movie itself. However, the artist I'm about to review for you now had many other different ideas in mind as to how the 1977 "STAR WARS" soundtrack would be presented and brought into the 70's world and age of the Disco movement. Meco would go ito the recording studio and record perhaps, one of the greatest special effects Disco albums in Disco's entire history. As time went by, Meco would emerge and come out of the recording studio with the completely finished acetate and deliver the finished product to their record label and employer, Mercury Records. Mercury Records would release the finished product as the legendary "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALATIC FUNK" album in 1977. In my opinion, other than THE BEE GEES, the "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK" album would truly symbolize what the true spirit of Disco music was really about.

It is now time to let the music of MECO to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking. The "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK" album from 1977 begins with the near 16:00 and original long version of the most breathtaking and blistering orchestrated music and special effects combined, recorded and mixed in with the special blend Disco sound, "Star Wars," the soulful funkish "Other Galactic Funk," the 7" edit version "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" and the 12" Disco mix "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band." May I also add that you have to listen to this album to believe it.

Overall, this is one hell of an album worth checking out and seeking further research and information into especially if you are a hardcore diehard MECO fan or a devout music collector. As for all of the curious newcomers and new beginners that are not quite familiar with the Disco sound and music of MECO or what the whole Disco craze of the 1970's was all about, I would highly suggest in purchasing the "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER" soundtrack along with this album. However, there are many other MECO compilation albums that you might want to research further into before you make your decision as to which MECO album is right for your musical needs and tastes. Either way you choose, you will have taken a giant step in owning and starting your very own Disco music collection. You can do all of your researching and album purchases either on Amazon com or your nearest local Borders Books and Music store. If you ever get a chance, purchase this album. You'll be happy and satisfied that you did.

I would like to highly recommend purchasing this album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal Disco music collection. This album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great legendary album that no hardcore music fan or devout music collector would want to be without.

In closing, Mercury Records would release the MECO "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK" album to highly critically acclaim in 1977. MECO would continue on with recording other great Disco music soundtracks such as "SUPERMAN" and other "STAR WARS" soundtracks that were still yet to come. The importance and contribution that MECO will have made to Disco music as well as music in general, is the further advancement in special effects in the recording technology process. With this in mind, MECO will forever leave their place and mark in Rock n' Roll history and will never be forgotten. So here's to you MECO. In solidarity with the others here I am thrilled to find this on cd at Aamazan after missing my 2 (count em 2) lps of this I went thru. And the marching band of Other Galactic Funk is still one of the great anomalies of disco.

I must admit, I do agree with some reviewers who think it a "bit much". I once had the original album on disco vinyl, and remember playing it. Now that I am recollecting some light-hearted music of the past, I find that I am totally satisfied with the 7:35 DJ promo-only 12" version track provided on cd compilation "The Casablanca Records Story".
For those looking for alternative Star Wars disco, look no further than the Boris Midney Anthology, for a latin style "hoppin" beat.
By the way, you can see the Meco album cover quickly towards the end of "Thank God It's Friday" when DJ of Zoo Disco putting his albums away, humming "last dance."

Bacharach's Astonishing Songbook Opened Up by a Motley Gallery of Artists.......2007-04-28

Rock music aside, there was not likely a better pop tunesmith in the second half of the 20th century than Burt Bacharach, and this robust two-disc retrospective set shows ample evidence of his infectious, idiosyncratic style, most notably his sophisticated pop melodies accompanied by momentous orchestra swells and infused with a sweeping, unapologetic romanticism. Sometimes amusingly dated but eminently listenable, this set covers the full breadth of Bacharach's career highlighting his 1960's work with his most mutually copasetic partner, lyricist Hal David, and inevitably, the dregs of the 1980's pop treacle he composed with then-wife Carole Bayer Sager ("Arthur's Theme", "Heartlight"). Because the intention is to showcase a number of different artists who had already covered his tunes on their own recordings, there is more of a hodgepodge feel here than with the more satisfying single-disc compilation, 2001's The Very Best of Burt Bacharach.

Consequently, among 41 songs presented, Bacharach's most pervasive muse, Dionne Warwick, is featured only on three classic tracks - the deceptively perky "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?"; the ironically sung "I'll Never Fall in Love Again"; and the syncopated swelling of "Anyone Who Had a Heart". Her radiant voice is missed most on "Alfie" where we instead get a twenty-year old Cher's unnecessarily bombastic performance; "Walk on By" made over into a psychedelic soul epic by Isaac Hayes; the sauntering "Message to Michael" covered by early Motown girl-group, the Marvelettes; Sybil's 1990's dance-club revamp of "Don't Make Me Over"; and "Trains and Boats and Planes" performed by Merseybeat band Billy J. Kramer & the Dakotas. The upside of the multi-artist approach is that we do get Aretha Franklin's saucy, gospel-fueled take on "I Say a Little Prayer"; the Stylistics' Philly soul-styled version of "You'll Never Get to Heaven (If You Break My Heart)"; and Broadway veteran (and future "Law & Order" star) Jerry Orbach's fresh-faced performance of "Promises, Promises".

Other classics included are the Carpenters' "(They Long to Be) Close to You" highlighting Karen's sparkling alto voice; B.J. Thomas' unavoidably sunny "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head"; Herb Alpert's casually off-key "This Guy's in Love with You"; Jackie DeShannon's symphonic rendition of "What the World Needs Now is Love"; the samba-sized cover of "The Look of Love" by Sergio Mendes and Brasil `66; Tom Jones' Vegas-style, hip-shaking "What's New Pussycat?"; Dusty Springfield's yearning smokiness on "Wishin' and Hopin'" and "I Don't Know What to Do with Myself"; and the 5th Dimension's "One Less Bell to Answer" featuring Marilyn McCoo's studio-polished vocals. Luther Vandross' lengthy, melisma-filled take on "A House Is Not a Home" is also here, as is Bacharach's valedictory collaboration with Elvis Costello on the powerful "God Give Me Strength".

Obscurities are offered in the mix as well, for example, the hard-rocking Pretenders, of all bands, do a 1989 number called "The Windows of the World", and the 5th Dimension covers a long-lost song from the disastrous musical version of "Lost Horizon", a catchy sing-along therapy session called "Living Together, Growing Together". The height of 1960's sexism is represented by Jack Jones' lounge-act singing on "Wives and Lovers", and sad-voiced Gene Pitney is featured on three early sixties tracks uniquely his - "Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa", "Only Love Can Break a Heart" and most famously, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". Bacharach himself ends each disk with instrumental versions of "Knowing When to Leave" and "That's What Friends Are For". Even if the performances vary with the artists, this collection shows how impressive Bacharach's expansive songbook truly is.

Disappointing.......2006-08-19

I like the music, but the sound quality is terrible. I bought this CD because it was released in 2003, but there is ZERO improvement in sound quality from previous older tracks.

First of all I like Vangelis very much. However I have had it with the way that his music is being released. We are consistently given compilation releases (usually of the same tracks that are on other releases). WHAT IS THE POINT????!!
All the more frustrating is that Vangelis has a ton of unreleased music that many fans like myself have been after for years. Sorry the bootlegs on Ebay just don't cut it.
Where's an official release of "Cavafy", "The Bounty", "Francesco", and "Bitter Moon". Where is all the still unreleased music from "1492", "Blade Runner", "Antarctica" and "Chariots of fire", yes he released soundtracks for these films but they were sadly lacking.
Unfortunately we will probably have to wait for Vangelis to demise before we ever get these tracks, if even then.

worth buying, has seven good Vangelis songs.......2005-05-25

Some may complain that this is not a definitive Vangelis CD. Nope, it is far from being that, but it has seven good songs on it that make it worth purchasing for less than $20. Those seven good songs are: Hymne, Alpha, Chariots of Fire, Missing, Pulsar, Petite Fille de la Mer, and L'enfant. Of course, those are just my personal favorites.

Excellent Overview of Vangelis' Best Known Songs.......2004-06-10

It's hard to keep track of the number of compilations of Vangelis. Off the top of my head, I can think of "The Best of", "Greatest Hits", "Themes", "Portraits", and "Reprise". But they never got it right, something was always off, or one period or another of his career was not covered. Now comes "Oddisey: The Definitive Collection". While it may be pushing your luck to proclaim anything as a Vangelis "definitive" compilation", given his prolific output over the years, I am here nevertheless to tell you that this compilation is as good as it will get.

"Oddisey: The Definitive Collection" (18 tracks, 78 min.) in my opinion truly does compile all of Vangelis' best know tracks and greatest hits. Most of the tracks on here will sound immediately familiar, many because they are movie themes (Chariots of Fire being the most famous of course, but also The Missing, Blade Runner, thankfully containing both the beginning and end titles, Mutiny on the Bounty, and others), and other that became well known in commercials (Hymne, L'Enfant, among others). There can be no denying the creativity and talents of Vangelis. There are 2 bonus tracks, "I'll Find My Way Home" and "State of Independence", the 2 best known tracks of Jon & Vangelis, a nice touch to the album.

I share my frustration with other reviewers here that there is tons of great Vangelis music out there that remains unreleased. To be sure, Vangelis deserves a box-treatment of rare and unreleased tracks. But if you are looking for a single-disk overview of his best known songs, look no further: "Oddisey" is it. Released in Fall, 2003, it is a nice way to commemorate Vangelis turning 60 (say it ain't so!).

Given the multimedia frenzy that accompanied Princess Diana's untimely death, it's somehow appropriate that the tragedy should inspire this album--a 2 CD set featuring 36 old and new tracks by an array of international stars--with a portion of the proceeds going to a Memorial Fund established in the late Princess' name. But, with Diana's death as the only unifying thread (and a tenuous one at that), it's not a particularly consistent or cohesive listen. But it's hard to argue with such an impressive array of stars including Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, the Spice Girls, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Puff Daddy, Aretha Franklin, R.E.M., Sinead O'Connor, Seal, George Michael, Des'ree, Bryan Ferry, and Michael Bolton (joining opera star Placido Domingo to perform "Ave Maria"). --Scott Schinder

I borrowed this album like 10 years ago from a friend of mine. and it's just great! my all time favorite "Shakespeare's Sonnet No. 18" by Bryan Ferry; Amazing Aretha Franklin's "I'll Fly Away"; Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philidelphia", Puff's "I'll Be Missing You", "Who want's to live forever" by queen, Touching; Mariah's Wonderful live performance on "Hero", "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion, also my farovite; etc.

And ten years later, i finally own this album. It's still unbelievablly good! I think that's what we called classical, everlasting. just like Diana.

Diana's Tribute CD.......2006-04-28

I still love listening to the music on this 2 CD set.
After reading the negative review 2 comments down from me, I had to remark.
The music on this CD is what should have been reviewed, not your opinion of Diana.
If you were so "blindly" drunk and forgot you had heard the night before, how exactly did you remember then the next day?
As for going on about Diana's character, I don't ever recall hearing about her getting so blasted that she started having blackouts.
She did alot more for people within a few years than it sounds like you have done your entire pathetic life. You waste your time on booze and the internet. She spent hers helping mine victims.

good tribute Album.......2006-01-02

alot of great talent paid tribute to lady Diana. my favorite track is "Every Nation" which was Composed&produced by the World Music GLobal King R. Kelly . this Disc has alot of Good material&great talent through out.can't believe it's been almost 10 years since Lady Diana passed.still very uplifting.

As I was listening to this c.d., I got such an appetite! ;) i WAS LIKE, i'M GONNNA GO GET A BOWL OF CEREAL, AND IT WAS LIKE 4 IN THE AFTERNOON! LOL Sorry that I've been typing in caps. lol
The best thing about this c.d. is that it's all Priness Dianay and it helps us all feel that we somehow are/were a part of her life when in reality she had no idea who we were and probably didn't care about. I like to feel important. Gotta go eat! lol ;)

Beatiful album cover, good idea, too big a variety of music.......2002-01-21

I got this album when it first came out, like so many of us did, and was a little disappointed. Many musicians contributed to this album, some of them first released their songs here, but the variety is too great. While I like the idea of a tribute to the Princess this double album is a very strange mix of music, I've always wondered how someone came up with the selection. I do like many of the selections, but was this list compiled from artists in Diana's colllection of recordings or did various family members come up with people they liked? I do like the idea that someone thought to include "I am in love with the world" by Chicken Shed, they are a childrens group that the Princess was a Patron of.

I just saw him at the House of Blues in New York. He is amazing live and his music is both refreshing and innovative. I haven't heard anything this good in a long long time. His Funky, Jazz, Techno, Guitar laden sound is hypnotic. Bought 3X after the show can't stop playing it.

Yes, he's done it again. Gooding continues to amaze us with his brilliant work with 3X. For all you out there that are already fans, this is definitely awesome. If you havne't had the chance to check this album out yet, definitely do it. He is phenomenonal. In a time where music lacks creativity and isn't uniform pop, Gooding shines. You will NOT be disappointed with this album. Also, definitely check out his tour dates, I just saw him in Champaign, IL. Enjoy this album, it's one of a kind.

For some reason the review above says "34 Reasons" and this aint that album...Other than that if you a big Mr.Kee fan or a Bay Area and Texas connect fan then this the album you looking for. It got that Texas to the Bay feel with a Latin twist. Many Latin hard hitters like Mr. Kee, 10sion, Gemini, Baby Bash and Grimm. Even "GoldToes" Julio puts it down! Begining to end no joke!

Raw Rap.......2004-12-09

34 Reasons: Surviving the Game is purely raw. 34 Reasons is a double disk collaboration produced by Goldtones Entertainment. A collaboration of rap artist "from the Golden Gate to the Lone Star State," as phrased on the cd's cover.

Beat-wise, 34 Reasons keeps it clean and simple. 34 Reasons creates a calming vibe to bump to, but it also carries plenty of hype.

Featured in this collaboration is a familiar artist that goes by the name Baby Bash. Baby Bash has two tracks on the second disc, "City of Dank" and "Sideshow." Baby Bash's "City of Dank" creates an image in the mind of what it is to be coming from the streets of California with a thug mentality. It's not negative, but it's not very positive either, it's simply a realistic look at how things are.

A few other artist worth honorable mentions are Andre Nickatina, Cougnut, and Mr. Kee, who is featured on four tracks.

34 Reasons is a loaded book, with 18 tracks on the first disc and 20 on the second. Listening to 34 Reasons definitely fills time. In the name of 'gangster rap' this collaboration meets quality from track to track.
