Customer Reviews:
Magnificent pianism, astonishingly good remastering.......1999-05-30
The Liszt on this CD, which I have been playing over and over again, has an incredible sonority, revealing the delicacy and complexity both of the music and the pianism which is only partly heard on the Koch-Swann. (Although I must say that the Koch-Swann, out of print but often available on the second-hand and cut-out market, combines the Liszt with Moiseiwitsch's grand Beethoven Emperor Concerto, again one of the very best performances there is.) M.'s playing in the Grieg is almost as good, delicate and passionate. In general, if you want superb remastering, you won't ever go wrong with APR -- Appian Publications and Recordings (which will soon have a website). Nor will you hardly ever go wrong with a Moiseiwitsch performance of ... anything. By the way, if like me you love Moiseiwitsch, you will probably also love the English pianist Solomon. APR has some grand Solomon performances (so does Testament), and will be issuing more soon. And if you love the Emperor Concerto, get the inexpensive EMI box of Solomon doing Beethoven concertos; he too has a magnificent touch.
