These CD's are filled with all the awesome relaxing songs for the evening when you need it. It is just one of those must have items in your CD collection.

This album was a "try and see" purchase but I love it. It makes great dinner music, great music to drift off to sleep with, or just nice background filler during social events needing a softer tone. It is not all solo piano music if that s what you are after; the other instruments blend very well however and don't challenge the piano playing. It is a piano album after all!

I simply love piano music. If you're looking to relax, enjoy a peaceful time, then you must check out this album. If you truly enjoy piano music, this album is by far one of the best you can purchase.

As it says....it is the "Most Relaxing Piano Album in the World...Ever..." Well, I haven't listened to all piano albums in the world, but I don't need to, this one is just perfect for me, and I think you will agree!

I would say the pianists' are extremely accomplished. At times, I would admit-it's a bit 'spine tingling'!

This Classical collection is one of great length and breadth ,and is well worth purchasing ,if you want an abundance of music at a low price.The sound quality is decent,however it is not great.This set will not provide you with the crisp,clear sound quality of a RCA,CBS or other well known label,so some classical aficionados may not appreciate it much.It all depends on what your looking for ,I guess.

Great collection for a great price.......2007-06-27

I did not expect much in buying this collection, but I was greatly surpeised. There were no reviews of the product at the time, and I bought the collection simply as a sampler of many great piano pieces. Most of the recordings are exquisite and of decent recording quality. This collection was well worth the price.

20 Fabulous Discs.......2007-06-08

I am surprised that this set has been out for 4 years and nobody reviewed it here yet. This is a lovely and occasionally amazing compilation. I was moved by many of the compositions. I really enhanced my classical music collection with this set. You have so many legends here to enjoy, from Bach to Brahms, Mozart to Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Gershwin, and more. If you love classical piano music and don't already have most of these works then this is a must buy for you. The price may go up, but I was fortunate to cash in on the $17.97 price. Quite a bargain for 20 fabulous discs.

A very complete selection of ceremony music!.......2005-02-02

I am getting married in several months and we couldn't decide what music we wanted at our wedding ceremony. This three disk compilation reminded us of all the great ones- including new options we hadn't thought about. I really enjoyed hearing the organ and strings versions of the songs. If you're someone who hears a classical or baroque piece of music, but can't remember the name or the precise tune, this is a must-have to jog your memory and trigger the tear ducts!

Comprehensive Classical Selection.......2004-04-15

I searched all over for a CD set that had a somewhat comprehensive list of classical selections that are traditionally played at weddings. When I found this 3 CD set, I was very pleased. It contains 61 works from almost as many composers. This set might not contain the "best recording ever" of each of the selections, however it is very well done and the quality is very good. I used it primarily to choose the pieces that I wanted to have played by the church organist, and so the actual recordings were more for my consumption rather than for use in the ceremony/reception itself. However, I would not have hestitated to use the CD's in the wedding itself if needed. The book inside includes a list of suggested songs for various wedding styles (formal, outside, morning, etc.). From the classical neophyte to the seasoned classical music expert, this CD set will meet if not exceed expectations.

Just one note..........2003-06-07

I have not heard this album, so I cannot rate it as a whole. (The form made me include a rating, but disregard that.) However, I want to point out that track 36, the Pie Jesu from Gabriel Faure's Requiem is - well, from a requiem, a mass for the dead. The Pie Jesu is a lovely, gentle movement, and it has a beautiful and pure sound that does seem to fit the mood of a wedding. The Latin words, however, mean "Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them everlasting rest," where "them" refers to the dead.

This set is a good way to start listening to classical music. It's very well produced and easy to listen to. I purchased it to use as part of my world history high school class. It would have been nice to have some bio information on the composers. However, the product is exactly as advertised and good value for the money. The students were intrigued by how many of the excerpts they had heard before.

Some little gems there that I had forgotten!.......2007-03-30

Although I studied classical music at school, I had all but forgotten it until I bought this set. I heard several tracks I haven't heard for over 30 years, and I had been humming Brahms's 'Hungarian Dance no. 5' for years without ever knowing what it was and it was on the disc, so that was nice.

I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.

It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!

Classical Masterpieces of the Millennium [20 CD Set]

A very helpful collection.......2007-03-24

I define this set as an excellent way to find out who you like, and who you don't, among 20 of the important composers. It opens the door to purchasing more complete pieces by composers you do like, and can save a lot of time and money in the process.
To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
Highly recommended.

Excellent!.......2007-03-08

A great way to start a classical music collection. It's nice to have a full CD of each composer. It makes it easy to keep track of selections/composers I already have and what composers I still need to puchase to complete my collection.

Get ready to be amazed..........2007-02-14

His style may not be for everyone, and sometimes the fingers move fast while the interpretations aren't as deep, but unless you're a pedantic stewed prune, it's hard to deny the sheer thrill of Andrei Gavrilov. He evokes colors like Horowitz, plays with the technical command of Pletnev and the fire of Richter, and still has a very unique, identifiable voice. Maybe he's Pogorelich with a prettier tone(?).

Some of the pieces on here aren't heard often enough in the concert hall, such as the Tchaikovsky Theme and Variations Op. 19 or the Scriabin Etude, which has to be heard here to be believed. Ditto the Balakirev Islamey. Others are warhorses or near-warhorses, such as the Prokofiev 1st Concerto and the Brahms Second Ballade, but in each case Gavrilov gives them a fresh spin, and his way with the Prokofiev is really fiery and special--this may be my favorite recording now, and I'd love to hear him do the Second Concerto. The Mozart K.397 is extraordinary, haunting, a performance so perfect that no other will now do for me, even if it is romanticized. Listen to this and tell me that the "Romantic" movement began with Beethoven (not that I thought it did even before this, but people have a habit of spouting such categorical nonsense.)

These two CDs together make up two thrilling recitals of diverse pieces. Each is a very satisfying concert in itself, complete with a thilling encore.

The sound throughout is excellent. This may be out of print (shelf lives keep getting shorter and shorter; it wasn't all that long ago that I bought it) but it's worth looking for used. Put it on when you want to be dazzled. A lot of people talk about Volodos as Horowitz's heir, but I'll take this guy any day.

You can't go wrong........2006-03-21

I agree with the previous reviewer. This edition is jam-packed with excellent performances by one of the greatest living pianists. Andrei Gavrilov has a very distinctive 'clean' and pure sound that is very easy to appreciate.

Gavrilov's vast repertoire complements his vast technique. Best of all are a gorgeous 5th French Suite of Bach, superb Prokofiev's First Concerto and Romeo and Juliet Suite, the Islamey, and the Scriabin 4th Sonata. My only complaint is that the producers should have swapped the well-played but inherently uninteresting Tchaikovsky Variations (or even the Schumann) for Gavrilov's thrilling but hard-to-find recording of 'La Campanella'.

One of the best in the set.......2005-01-04

'Gavrilov' is my favorite volume in the Great Pianists series, and one of the best volumes among the modern pianists together with 'Sofronitsky' and 'Bolet I'. The Prokofiev concerto is fantastic and the Islamey amazing. The mix of works is very good; there is a wide range of repertoire unlike many other sets in the series which consist barely of Chopin.

Definitely must-have.

I like Gavrilov.......2002-01-09

I like Gavrilov since I heard him played Rachmaninov's stuffs on the EMI red label some years ago. Still today, I like Gavrilov very much for his style, touching and depth. I have many other Gavrilov CDs and this is another great CD showcasing the music spectrum of Gavrilov's music. I fully recommend this one.

richter's great pupil.......2000-08-04

Andrei Gavrilov is evidently one of the few pianists whom actually makes some attempt to play things induvidually, and actually knows what he is doing. When one hears recordings by Richter one hears also how Gavrilov has inherited these skills, particularly in tone, from ppp to fff. His Bach is wonderful, although he doesn't use a great deal of pedal, and his rendition of Islamey is justifiably famous although the piano sounds rather "clunky". There is always a feeling of depth with the works he plays, the Scriabin sonata is one of the best versions I've heard and his Prokofiev 1st Concerto is probably THE most remarkable, he understands wholely Prokofiev's anti-romantic manner, but never overexaggeratating. I would wholely recommend this recording for listeners whom want to hear a contemporary "Great Pianist" whom actually has indivudiality and style.
