Everything that Mr. Puglisi had to say below about the shamefully forgotten tenor, Galliano Masini, is perfectly correct. This recording is clearly well on its way out of circulation. Grab it while you can.

Mr. Puglisi only wrote three short reviews but he was dead on target in all three. It is a pity that he did not continue. I am sure the his views would be of great interest.

On the other hand, it appears that the notorious Amazon gremlins have been hard at work with the review of Mr. Larsson of Stockholm. I'm half-ashamed to admit that I have never even heard of the tenor, Berglund, but thanks to Mr. L., I'll certainly keep an open ear from now on.

Joel Berglund shows what an enormous voice he possesses. Beautiful, flowing singing with power and majesty. Once you discover this kind of singing, you almost want to put your fingers in the ears when you listen to the voices of today. Today singers are taught "modern" technique than not develops the full potential of the voice. Joel Berglund uses the same technique as the great Norwegian soprano Kirsten Flagstad. So buy this record and start listen....

If you haven't had the chance to hear any of the now rarely found recordings of Galliano Masini, then you're missing out on something special. During his golden years--the 1930s and 1940s--Masini achieved levels of fame on par with many others, like Pertile and Gigli, who are now mush better remembered Italian tenors. In fact Mafalda Favero, the great soprano, named Masini as having the most beautiful tenor voice in the world at that time. This recording supports her claim very well. Most notably is the recording of 'O tu che in segno agl'angeli' from La Forza del Destino. It is quite possibly the foremost recording of this aria since that of Caruso, and certainly the greatest of his generation. The aria is taken from a full recording of the opera which also headlines Caniglia, Pasero, and Tagliabue. It too is a wonderful recording which should not be passed up, as Caniglia, who's voice often suffered in recordings, overcame her studio difficulties and shows why she was in such high demand.
