Really Good Stuff.......2000-07-13

If you are just discovering Jim Reeves, this would be one of his recordings to purchase. Once again, Reeves gives his all, and it does show in his work. This compliation mainly showcases his first recordings with RCA in the mid 1950's. Try it...you'll like it!

Minimalism.......2007-01-17

This CD is a great view of minimalistic music. Most of the pieces use saxophones, but two use things not generally considered instruments. For one piece, microphones swinging above speakers are recorded and it really makes you think about music in everyday things. You would not guess this particular piece was swinging microphones if you heard it without this knowledge. I really enjoyed this CD. However, as a string intrumentalist, it would have been nice to hear something with strings.

A very generous reissue of two of honkytonk hero Faron Young's best albums from his peak years on the Capitol label. "Here's Faron Young," from 1959, and "Hello Walls," from 1961, presented with crisp, beautiful sound quality from the European wing of his original record label.

Recorded by noted producer Rafter Roberts (Black Heart Procession, Tristeza, Pinback, The Album Leaf) at Singing Serpent in San Diego, I SAW YOU COMING BACK TO ME is occasionally instrumental, often lyrically sparse and forever biting in its depiction of boredom and heartbreak. Mixing moody "baroque-minimalism" with offbeat humor, I SAW YOU COMING BACK TO ME is a potent elixir for the indie rock set. Lilting, downcast melodies are sometimes juxtaposed with mirthful song titles ("Landlord! Watch! Coffin! Angels!"). Other times, the dangers of comfort are outlined in sleepy, somber strokes ("The Dogs Life"). Think of Bedroom Walls as a bipolar concoction of laughing gas and valium, a dreamy state of consciousness and sleep.

When an album has a song called "Landlord! Watch! Coffin! Angels!", that's enough to get your attention. And it's the sort of whimsically thoughtful stuff that you find on "I Saw You Coming Back To Me," L.A. band Bedroom Walls' debut. It's lush, soft and lulls you into a pleasant stupor.

A gentle riff and murmured vocals open "Do The Buildings And Cops Make You Smile?", a singsongy little pop tune. Then it's to distorted speaking and quiet, repetitive little melodies in "Winter That's All," the more cheerful horn-laden "More 'Real Cats," and the meanderingly sweet "Making Atoms Jump Like Trick Dogs."

The real gift of Bedroom Walls is to make meandering melodies sound so darn good. This heavily-sedated form of baroque pop -- which Bedroom Walls dubs "romanticore" -- rarely reaches a climax or breaks out of its basic melodic mold. But rather than seeming draggy and repetitive, it seems more like being rocked to sleep.

The music of Bedrooms Walls seems a lot simpler on the first listen. Songs like "The Dog's Life," "He To Whom Mercy Has Been Granted" and "There's Nothing To See in the Morning Light" sound very alike on first listen. But after the second or third, you start to notice the whimsical notes of "Nothing," the sonic undulations of "Mercy," and dozens of other little details.

The vocals of Adam Goldman and former member Melissa Thorne are merely okay -- they sound like they're singing in their sleep, but it does match the music. The complex instrumentation is the best part, however -- little snatches of acoustic guitar and bright horns ground the airy flute, electric piano and keyboards.

Absolutely wonderful. Ms. Fernandez has always had such an enchanting voice. Her ability to touch her audience either live or through recording is absolutely captivating. I loved her in the movie Diva, I love her still! This CD is a must have for those who are a fan. Treat yourself...it's worth it! :)

You find yourself in the wilderness of desert. Around you, the lunar hills mount up into stony pillars that stretch like fingers to touch the full moon that drifts above you like a dreaming goddess. Around you, smiling faces and faces lost to the pacific trance of beauty, arms raised to the countless stars, fingers stirring up the milky way, arms outstretched as if to embrace the world. You walk toward the turntables as the music begins to swell, the beat calling your heart to greater and greater awareness, and the DJ smiles at you like the Buddha... And suddenly you are transported on a wave of pure energy, carried away to the heart of the galaxy where the glory of existence gives you your true name.

Sound Without Walls ~is~ Moontribe defined. It is a voyage that you will take again and again. This is a great cd. Not the overplayed trance music that people are so used to hearing in clubs and "massive" raves. The tracks are interesting and have a much more driving edge. This cd is nice b/c anyone who likes either trance or psytrance will like the music.

BEST ELECTRONICA CD EVER.......2000-10-24

We are extremely picky listeners, especially with electronica. So, when we say this is a good cd, we MEAN IT. Buy it and it will forever be in your music collection. The tracks are perfect and the mixing (of course) is impeccable. Put it on, close your eyes and you are in the desert with the full moon above you and your best friends dancing all around you.

some phat goa and psy trax..........2000-07-01

I picked this up on a whim a while ago. I'd heard of Moontribe and, of course, John Kelley and DJ Brian, so I figured it'd be worth it. Some of the trax are really phat, like Sonic Fusion's Tribal Warrior, Palefield Mountain's "Dream To Become" and Gypsy's "Funkdafino". Others are a bit tiresome or just a bit too goa-ish for me. On the plus side, most of the artists are underground and the tracks not featured anywhere else (except for Speedy J and Art of Trance). Worth adding to one's collection, especially if you are looking for something new or on the tribal side of trance.

This is one of the best goa/psy trance compilations I have heard ....definetly a must buy.
