So Ellen and David ask me if I want to put out their electro-sonic collaboration. I am surprised. Not that I did not think the music would be great – which it is. I had no clue they knew each other, much less working together. Well they do. And they are. And here is the result – Two Ships. Enjoy.

"Two heads are better than one" (sometimes) Anyone who’s ever collaborated knows that collaboration can be a mixed bag. Those of us who have done it, likely seek it out because we recognize that the combined, mutual effort, will be greater than say – the individual parts. Also, some of us welcome the experience of joint effort. After all, music is a rather social medium and many of us enjoy the process of working together. It’s possible that collaboration can be likened to the old sandbox metaphor – why not build it together and benefit from each other’s strengths. On the other hand, we’re only human and cooperation is not always easy to achieve especially when artistic egos are involved. It’s no secret that artists have very specific ideas about how they want their art to be realized. It might make a great book some day, to have collaborators write about their respective experiences, both successful and difficult. However, that project exceeds the limits of this context. Performances by ELLEN BAND and DAVID LEE MYERS blend sonic environments and specialized electronic circuitry. Myers generates his signature "Feedback Music" using custom-built devices that "sing their own songs". The resulting sounds represent nothing other than the free circulation of electrons within, prompting one observer to describe them as arising "from the ether". Band carefully builds swirling layers of sonorous, textural, tone/noise clusters by mixing and processing lengthy samples from her field recordings of real-world sounds. Though their individual working styles are very different, their combined effort yields lush sonic densities that continually pulse and morph while complementing and contrasting each other’s sonic expression. Sound artist and composer, Ellen Band creates works for performance, sound installation, and sound sculpture. In 2004, Portal Of Prayer, her full-length CD work was installed at Boston’s Logan International Airport and The Boston Public Library from March 2nd – June 5th of 2004. Portal Of Prayer is the first completely audio-based work commissioned by the Institute Of Contemporary Art/Vita Brevis, Boston and is scheduled for commercial release through the ICA and Ms. Band by the end of 2005. The work received extensive reviews in the Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The Boston Phoenix, and Art New England, as well as interviews and airplay on Morning Edition on WBUR (NPR Boston) and WNYC’s The Next Big Thing (NPR New York City and 100 national affiliates). Scheduled for release this spring on Pogus is Two Ships, a CD of electro-sonic collaborations with David Lee Myers. Her solo CD of sound art work, 90% Post Consumer Sound on XI Records, NYC, has received worldwide airplay! and numerous reviews. David Lee Myers is a sound and visual artist living in New York City. He has produced music based on feedback principles since 1987, using his unique "feedback machines". As Arcane Device, and more recently under his own name, Myers has had some twenty recordings released by Recommended/ReR, Generator, Silent, RRRecords, Staalplaat, and other labels. In 2003, Myers' fourth collaborative album with Hamburg's Asmus Tietchens was released on the Line label in New York, and ReR has just released Pond, a CD with legendary electronic music pioneer Tod Dockstader.

Why, why is it so difficult to reissue the originals, in full? The music is wonderful--well, if you're a fan, you know that already--but the sound effects really are laughably bad. And as the sound effects were integral to the atmosphere of several tracks, it really does matter. Now, instead of the jungle sounds that accompanied the original track, you get to listen to some house sparrows chirping and flitting cheerfully from tree to tree, as if you were sailing toy boats in the park instead of slogging through the jungles of New Guinea. If the original sound effects are missing, minimal effort from RCA could have secured at least reasonably realistic substitutes. Instead, we get this pathetic garbage. Really a shame. That second star is only because the original music is so good.

It's ok, but much of it was cut from the original album. I have the complete set of 33 1/3 albums,there were three, the cd is ok but lacks the original sounds put on when recorded.Sounds were added that were not originally there.It can't compare to the original.

The quality of the digitally remastered music on this CD is far and above what I was expecting. The entire CD plays flawlessly without so much as a hint of unwanted background noise. My experience in purchasing this CD was very good. Shipment was almost immediate and delivery prompt. I can find absolutely nothing to complain about and am very happy with my purchase. Thanks a million.

What an utter disappointment. I've got the originals on vinyl, and this sad excuse for a reissue was not worth the money I spent. Most of the sound effects from the original have been left out, and the final 10-minute-plus piece, "Symphonic Scenario", bears not even a passing resemblance to the original. Don't waste your time and money.

I mistakenly bought this CD thinking it was a reprint of an LP of Christmas carols that my parents played when I was a child. What a happy accident this was! The singing is beautiful, the arrangements are well-crafted and the sound is lush and warm.

These are indeed the carols that I enjoyed as a child, but the fact that they were recorded in New York City and accompanied by a pipe organ that was shortly afterward ruined in the September 11 World Trade Center attacks gives this CD an extra resonance.

Trinity Church at Wall Street was directly in the path of the World Trade Center's monumantal rubble showers when the buildings collapsed on 9/11. Consequently Trinity's magnificinet organ was a victim of dust and debris along with everything else in its path. As a sort of memorial to the late renowned organ, "Christmas at Trinity" is a tribute to not only the superb choir and its director, Dr. Owen Burdick, but a fond farewell (for the time being) to one of this country's finest musical instruments. And as the the parishoners get used to a decent substitute organ, the glorious instrument is being refurbished (at enormous, but worthy expense) to return to its place of honor at Trinity, Wall Street.
Having added that bit of history, "Christmas at Trinity" is a general collection of the finest arrangements and selection of choral literature for Christmas. Under the direction of Dr. Owen Burdick, the Choir breathes sensitivity into each carol. This disc is one of the finest collections of Christmas music available. It is a classical collage of sound and literature which I would recommend for a single choice for one's Christmas enjoyment, that is, if you are on a limited budget.
And, speaking of "budget", for $6.98 this is a superb bargain. Naxos is the label with delicious and unusual collections of music for anyone wanting to be adventuresome, or looking for a modest start to a personal CD library. Start with "Christmas at Trinity" and be delighted with not only the performance, but also the lovely price!

This is a wonderful CD. The singing is wonderful. The recording is excellent with a huge soundstage. Descriptions like "smooth like silk" come to mind when I want to describe their voices. I bought this CD last year and play it all the time, even after Christmas. My system consists of Meridean CD player, Audio Research amp, Herron preamp, and Verity speakers.

Sit back,relax and enjoy the wonderful music on this sure to be a classic Christmas CD. I am particularly interested in this CD because my 5th great-grandfather was a vestryman at Trinity and is buried in the Trinity Church Yard. HOWEVER, whether or not you have a family connection to Trinity, it is still a wonderful, relaxing and meaningful album.

If you love TNG and want all of the best of the soundtracks, then buy this! It'll save you money, and the TNG soundtracks are some of the best. The magic of this series can come alive, and it has a ton of music from all episodes, including mixed in versions that are really "cool".

Originally recorded between 1964 and 1985, this generous 2-CD compilation ranges from carols dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries to timeless, mostly traditional popular favorites. The arrangers include such eminent composers as Vaughan Williams, Gustav and Imogene Holst, Arthur Sullivan, Peter Cornelius, and Felix Mendelssohn, as well as the Choir's own Directors, David Wilcocks and Philip Ledger. The 50 carols are carefully chosen for maximum contrast of tempo, mood and character; the settings, too, endeavor to create variety of texture and dynamics between the often numerous verses by alternately using solos and choruses, male, female and combined voices, creating cumulative build-ups, and adding a descant to the final strophe. However, even all these techniques and devices tend to become predictable, so it may be advisable to enjoy the program in judicious doses. Among these riches, listeners will find their own favorites, but it may be worth noting that "Silent Night" appears twice, once in English and once in German, and that two of the most famous carols--"O come, all ye faithful" and "Hark! The herald angels sing"--are accompanied by a very loud brass band playing fanfares with incongruous, "up-dated" harmonies--the only false note in the program. By contrast, the organ, employed in several introductions, as well as to provide powerful chordal support and all kinds of tinkling, bell-like effects never seems out of style or character. The singing is splendid. Basically "white," without vibrato, the sound has a wonderfully pure, truly celestial quality, but can rise to full, rich, ringing sonorities in the climaxes. Intonation, balance and ensemble are impeccable, the soloists are excellent. The reverberant acoustics of the Chapel of King's College, where the recordings were made, cushion the voices without obscuring the clarity of the lines. --Edith Eisler

I was very disappointed when I listened to CD 1 and realised it was club music.Having now read the other review I don't think I will get satisfaction,therefore I cannot rate this item properly.

I put the CD in and was met by club music, I thought maybe it was some strange take on "Morning in the City of David" nope, the CD had been burned with the wrong image. I sent it back and received a new copy, it had the same issue. I listened to the second CD and loved ever moment of it, but until EMI/Amazon can rectify this issue, I cannot fairly rate it.

      So Ellen and David ask me if I want to put out their electro-sonic collaboration. I am surprised. Not that I did not think the music would be great – which it is. I had no clue they knew each other, much less working together. Well they do. And they are. And here is the result – Two Ships. Enjoy. "Two heads are better than one" (sometimes) Anyone who’s ever collaborated knows that collaboration can be a mixed bag. Those of us who have done it, likely seek it out because we recognize that the combined, mutual effort, will be greater than say – the individual parts. Also, some of us welcome the experience of joint effort. After all, music is a rather social medium and many of us enjoy the process of working together. It’s possible that collaboration can be likened to the old sandbox metaphor – why not build it together and benefit from each other’s strengths. On the other hand, we’re only human and cooperation is not always easy to achieve especially when artistic egos are involved. It’s no secret that artists have very specific ideas about how they want their art to be realized. It might make a great book some day, to have collaborators write about their respective experiences, both successful and difficult. However, that project exceeds the limits of this context. Performances by ELLEN BAND and DAVID LEE MYERS blend sonic environments and specialized electronic circuitry. Myers generates his signature "Feedback Music" using custom-built devices that "sing their own songs". The resulting sounds represent nothing other than the free circulation of electrons within, prompting one observer to describe them as arising "from the ether". Band carefully builds swirling layers of sonorous, textural, tone/noise clusters by mixing and processing lengthy samples from her field recordings of real-world sounds. Though their individual working styles are very different, their combined effort yields lush sonic densities that continually pulse and morph while complementing and contrasting each other’s sonic expression. Sound artist and composer, Ellen Band creates works for performance, sound installation, and sound sculpture. In 2004, Portal Of Prayer, her full-length CD work was installed at Boston’s Logan International Airport and The Boston Public Library from March 2nd – June 5th of 2004. Portal Of Prayer is the first completely audio-based work commissioned by the Institute Of Contemporary Art/Vita Brevis, Boston and is scheduled for commercial release through the ICA and Ms. Band by the end of 2005. The work received extensive reviews in the Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The Boston Phoenix, and Art New England, as well as interviews and airplay on Morning Edition on WBUR (NPR Boston) and WNYC’s The Next Big Thing (NPR New York City and 100 national affiliates). Scheduled for release this spring on Pogus is Two Ships, a CD of electro-sonic collaborations with David Lee Myers. Her solo CD of sound art work, 90% Post Consumer Sound on XI Records, NYC, has received worldwide airplay! and numerous reviews. David Lee Myers is a sound and visual artist living in New York City. He has produced music based on feedback principles since 1987, using his unique "feedback machines". As Arcane Device, and more recently under his own name, Myers has had some twenty recordings released by Recommended/ReR, Generator, Silent, RRRecords, Staalplaat, and other labels. In 2003, Myers' fourth collaborative album with Hamburg's Asmus Tietchens was released on the Line label in New York, and ReR has just released Pond, a CD with legendary electronic music pioneer Tod Dockstader.
