Michel Legrand is one the biggest artists of music entertainment, a sensitive composer and arranger.

Here you'll find a correct selection of Legrand's material with unnecessarily new arrangements though with an impeccable performance.

Many of the songs in the repertoire are still available in CDs you can find here @Amazon and the best Legrand is the original Legrand.

This album stands only for those who doesn't care about original takes and wishes just for a selection of the best Legrand.

Michel Legrand was born in Paris on February 24th, 1932...attended the Paris Conservatory Progressing...worked in various jazz bands, later a staff arranger and composer...an orchestrator in the '50s...scored films in the early '60s with "THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG" (1964)..."THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR" (1968)..."THE GO-BETWEEN" (1970)..."SUMMER OF '42" (1971)..."THE THREE MUSKETEERS" (1973)...and three Oscars from the Academy Awards for "THE WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND" for best music and original song in 1969 , "SUMMER OF '42" for best original song and original dramatic score in 1972... Candlelight, wine - and Josep............2005-08-08

The recipe for a perfect romantic evening is candlelight, a bottle of wine and of course - Josep. This is the most romantic collection of songs in a very long time. And José Carreras's sensual voice is perfect for this kind of repertoire. One of the really good things about him is that he's capable of singing these songs without crooning. And like always he makes it sound like the words are born within him. In the song "the first time ever I saw your face" he sings about that wonderful feeling we get when we experience things in love for the first time. Listening to him singing "the first time ever I kissed your mouth".... makes your heart skip a beat and your knees go all wobbly.... And when he gets to the part with "the first time ever I lay with you" you're drooling.... In the song "what are you doing the rest of your life?" he's singing "I'll awake what's asleep in your eyes. It may take a kiss or two..." And I'm out of breath again.....

Other favourite songs on this album are "besame mucho", "somewhere" and "the summer knows". The only song I feel doesn't do it for me is "amigos para siempre", the duet with Sarah Brightman. She's not a good match for him. I think she sounds much too "girlish". Still, it's just a minor "hickup" in this recording.

But really, you should listen to the album and judge for yourself. How he does it I do not know, but he sings with such intensity and honesty that you almost start believing in true love again. And in the end - isn't that the purpose of lovesongs???

Underplayed Verdi.......2003-12-06

The notes are all there, but these are distinctly tepid and inexpressive runthroughs; entirely too polite, ironically for the theatre orchestra that has these operas in its lifeblood, having debuted most of them. I suggest that Muti is bored with it all. Amazingly, the lyric parts have no soul, although the conductor does whoop things up somewhat for the loud, fast parts. He comes to life briefly for Act 3 of Traviata, his emotions finally engaged. In short, this program doesn't add up to a satisfying musical experience. Pass.

Great Collection.......2001-04-07

For those of you who are luke warm about opera (like me), but don't want to miss any of the incredible overtures and preludes that accompanied Verdi's masterworks, then this disc is for you. Twelve preludes and overtures from a variety of operas, including the magnificent pieces from "La Traviata," are collected on this disc. The performances are first rate on this recent digital recording by the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, under the leadership of Riccardo Muti. I enjoyed this disc so much, I am looking forward to checking out "Volume 2," not to mention (gasp) a Verdi Opera.
