About the Artist
Gerald was born in France in 1948 and emigrated to Toronto with his parents in 1956. His musical career started with a high school rock band in which Gerald played lead guitar. Then, between 1967 and 1969, he traveled around Ontario playing for the rock band Hudsun Bay Company. Over the next sixteen years, Gerald alternated between satisfying his spiritual and his material needs, travelling across Canada and the United States. In 1987, Gerald married and set up home in Midland, Ontario. The stability of marriage and the love of a supportive wife provided the impetus for Gerald to start a career designing and making unique, top-quality furniture, which he did between 1990 and 1998. In 1996, a friend made a suggestion that would start yet another career; he suggested that Gerald brush up on his classical guitar skills. Gerald studied theory and classical guitar techniques through the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Ontario. In 1998, he combined his musical and furniture-making skills, and made his own classical guitar. In 2000, Gerald started writing his own music, with the end result being his first album, released in December 2000. This album, Medieval Cottage Songs, won the Ottawa Valley Music Association "Instrumental of the Year Award" in 2001 for the composition "Killaloe". Gerald's second album, The Colours of Life was released in December 2002, and won the Ottawa Valley Music Association "Instrumental Release of the Year" award in 2003. Gerald's third album My New Guitar was released in November 2004. In addition to producing these albums, Gerald has also built four more guitars, composed enough songs for a fourth and fifth album (each with seventeen compositions on it); has started composing songs for his sixth album and is currently constructing on his sixth guitar.

Album Description
This is classical guitar music in the style of Andres Segovia, John Williams, Narcisco Yepes and Julian Bream; soothing original classical guitar compositions of a refined European style with folk and Spanish influences.

In this crazy, fast-paced world of ours, sometimes you need to set aside time for yourself to just slow down and mellow out. New-age classical music is perfect for that. It's easy-listening, perfect for meditation, or for background music when having a heart-to-heart with friends.

Gerald Boy has created just that: easy-listening, mellow acoustic guitar music. All are his own compositions, influenced by his admiration for the works of Segovia, Williams, Yepes and Bream and by his childhood spent in France.

What could be more soothing than the sound of an acoustic guitar, on its own, or accompanied by keyboard or wind instruments? No jarring, blaring cacophony, no distracting voices, just quiet harmonious music that helps drain the tension from your body and renew your soul.

THE STORIES BEHIND THE TITLES

1. Little Dance - A joyful little tune that was playing in my head one day.

2. Ode to John Lennon - Written in honour of a great musician and composer.

3. Espanol - I think I must have been born in Spain in another life; I'm very fond of things Spanish.

4. Starlight - I was sitting outside one summer night, looking at the sky. This is about the dance of the stars.

5. Monday Morning - My wife Heather finds facing Monday mornings very hard. I wrote this after watching her grumble around the house early one morning.

6. My New Guitar - As I was joyfully putting the finishing touches on the my third guitar (the one used to produce this album) this composition popped into my head. As soon as I had the strings on, I went into the house and started working it out.

7. Long Night of My Soul - All of us have had those nights of doubt and self-questioning, where dawn seems like it will never come.

8. Valley Holiday Plans - This composition reflects our love of the Ottawa Valley, where we have our cottage.

9. Opus 1 No 3 - The third in a series inspired by the classics.

10. Lonely Afternoon - There are some afternoons that seem to stretch on forever, where you feel like you've been deserted by all.

11. The Cardinal - I was sitting in my music room one afternoon, and there was a cardinal on the branch outside the window. He seemed so happy there, swaying on the snowy branch, singing away!

12. Summer Haze - One of those hot, muggy, smoggy summer days.

13. Little BlueBell - Many years ago, I was walking through the forest when I noticed that it was carpeted by these tiny, fragile, beautiful flowers.

14. For A Friend - Dedicated to a very talented artist who passed away suddenly.

15. Changes - I don't think there's anyone who hasn't had many changes and upheaval in their life to deal with.

16. Rapture - A celebration of all that is divine in our lives.

17. Faith - If you have faith, then understanding is attainable.

If you're after a range of classical style, this is a must........2002-08-02

If you're like me, and tend to enjoy a changing theme, pace and rhythm when listening to music, I think you'll find this work a welcome addition to your classical collection. On a bias note, track 10 on disk 1 (Piano Sonata No. 14 in C sharp minor ("Moonlight"), Op. 27/2 Adagio sostenuto) is one of my favorite recordings of this piece, so I cant help but recommend it ;)
