Fine performances with antique taste--4.5 stars.......2005-11-28
This CD reminds me of the fine Telemann chamber music CDs (e.g. Ton Koopman's, B000005EBS, & The Chandos Baroque Players, B0000002ZIV). The nice 3-language (German, English, French) write-up by Ingeborg Allihn in the accompanying booklet quotes Telemann's autobiography: "I believe that pleasing the multitude is better than catering for the few." This CD includes one overture-suite, 1 concerto, & 4 sonatas (one a trio sonata). Other CDs with Telemann sonatas include: Rampal's "The Romantic Flute" (B000001VHZ) & EMI Classics "Baroque Telemann: Concertos & Sonatas" (B000002S5Z). The differences in instrumentation between antique instrument CDs & the modern ones is quite distinct. Enjoy!
