5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Pianist.......2005-07-29

This is a very fine Chopin recital. Daniel Wnukowski's graceful touch and poetic approach towards the instrument in a way remind me of how the old masters of the pianoforte performed - that is with passion and heartfelt emotion. If I had heard this recording without actually seeing the album I would never have guessed that it is a young pianist of our generation performing in it.

I particularly enjoyed the sonata and believe it is the highlight of this CD. Wnukowski performs it with a consummate understanding of form and structure, and sings the 'bel canto' lines of the slow themes very beautifully. The music seems to flow out of his fingers very naturally as if he was born to play this music. The last movement is thrilling and exciting as it drives the listener from start to finish with breathtaking virtuosity.

The actual sound quality of the recording is OK, I think the engineers could have done a better job of remastering it. Sometimes it sounds as if the microphones were placed too far from the instrument producing a slightly 'muddy' quality. But what you will NOT find in this album is anything which sounds mechanical, forced or over-practiced. Truly a unique artist - HIGHLY recommended for your classical CD collection.
