This is a 'must have' for anyone who enjoys either Turkish or Middle Eastern music. Wonderful for just listening to, or even meditating; very relaxing music. Not particularly for belly dancing, but would be appreciated by dancers for sure.
This CD represents the best of Turkish Classical Music.......2001-04-08
I was searching for a representative of the Classical Turkish Music to introduce my friends to Turkish music and I was very happy when I found this one. The selection is masterly-played, the songs are mostly slow, captivating and soulful. The music has a good "old" quality that takes you to the Ottoman palace and starts you to dream. Certainly a "must have" if you're willing to experience a different piece of music.

Tebaldi Perfection on CD.......1999-11-29
This great CD compilation of Renata Tebaldi's early work would get a 5 star, if strictly for material. The questionable remastering is the only reason for four stars.There are two basic reasons to get this CD. First and foremost the AIDA '53 excerpts, which are from the only extant live recording with Tebaldi. She is incredible, showing a TRUE dramatic intensity, and sheer vocal perfection, that is makes both her studio versions sound mediocre, in spite of the muddled sound. Stignani and Tebaldi transcend this; when they are singing together, the orchestra is optional! The audience goes into a FRENZY during the duet with Aida's father, spontaneously reacting to one of the BEST live AIDA's ever! The other reason is FAUST. For years only available on badly made LPs, here it is, showing Tebaldi performing, with a voice that will bring one close to tears. There is SO much acting ability on these performances, that it is very clear to me she could ALWAYS act, not just in the later years! You will love this CD!.

Louis Armstrong's recordings of the 1920s are among the most celebrated in the history of jazz - and with good reason, for during this period he nearly single-handedly changed jazz into an art form that showcased virtuoso soloists. Armstrong's phrasing (legato lines rather than staccato), his ability to "tell a story" in his solos, his beautiful tones on cornet and trumpet, his impressive musicianship, his ability to make any song sound bluish and the joy in his playing; all of these traits became hugely influential. In addition, his singing reflected the phrasing of his trumpet playing, he was a major force in popularizing scat singing and his very distinctive voice would forever after be imitated by others. During the period featured on this recording, Satch moved from Chicago to New York and moved away from the combo recordings he had become famous for to focus more on recordings with big bands. This classic collection features 21 of Satch's most beloved recordings from this New York period, gathered together on a single CD for the very first time, with remastered sound, detailed notes by Scott Yanow and rare historic photos.
