Nakai's free improvisations on this album are based on his impressions of the Anasazi and Sinagua sites, ancient cliff dwellings that were home to communities of Native people thousands of years ago. By using the Roland SDE 3000 Digital Delay system, Nakai is able to play duets with his own echo, in an effort to emulate the echoes of the past that haunt these ruins. On this recording, Nakai's flute sounds even more plaintive than usual, as if the spirits of these forgotten ancestors had entered into the studio to fill his playing with the whispered reverberations of their ancient ways. This is one of Nakai's most deeply felt recordings, one that resonates with a deep, melancholy yearning. --j. poet

I am dreaming about forgotten times.

Hauntingly beautiful.......2007-01-15
I first heard of R. Carlos Nakai on the music channel I have on cable and I instantly fell in love with his music. This album is simply amazing, it's beauty is haunting and I can't begin to tell everyone how very pleased I am with my purchase of this cd. Every song is a masterpiece and the fact that each song is played in a canyon/cave adds to the mysterious quality of the music. This is a great album for anyone who is interested in Native American flute music and Nakai is the best in this genre.
The Master.......2007-01-04
This CD replaced a tape that has been a favorite of mine. Wonderful.
AWESOME Native American Flute Music!.......2006-11-14
R. Carlos Nakai is the best of the best among those playing Native American flute, and this C.D. is his absolute best. It transports one into higher dimensions and brings peace. I can't say enough good stuff about this C.D. I had wanted it for years and I finally got it! It was worth the wait.

Nakai's most recent outing finds him returning once again to the simple under-produced style that he pioneered on Changes. This program includes 10 traditional tunes from the Kiowa, Lakota, Dakota, Zuni, and Cheyenne; seven of his own compositions; and "Lake That Speaks," from the second movement of James DeMars's "Two World Concerto." On this album the Native melodies sound forceful, almost triumphant, partially due to the short, staccato bursts that Nakai often uses to begin a melodic line--sounds that bring to mind a child's laughter or the contented chirping of a dawn bird. For the Cheyenne "Victory Song" and the Dakota/Lakota melody "The Great Mystery Hears Me" Nakai uses more sustained notes than usual, and the clear, piercing tone of his flute illuminates the heart like a ray of midday sunshine. --j. poet

I heard this beautiful music in the Cliff Dwelling museum in Colorado Springs (Manitou), CO and immediately had to purchase it. You can hear the history and be taken back in time with this music. It's theraputic and even the kids calm when it's played.

This collection of solo flute pieces from Navajo-Ute musician R. Carlos Nakai is an evocative delight. The album consists of mostly original material, from the composition "Canyon Reverie," to the improvisational "In Media Res," to "Athabascan Song," an arrangement of a traditional song. The latter in particular stands out, with a faster rhythm and more lilting melody than most of the other pieces. There's also "Ancient Dreams," performed on a bone whistle; the instrument almost exceeds the upper range of human hearing, and Nakai occasionally sounds like he's imitating birdcalls. A classically trained musician, Nakai blends musical traditions to create a whole that reminds one, on occasion, of Japanese shakuhachi music. --Genevieve Williams

TRADITIONAL .......2007-07-20
THIS OF ALL OF MY COLLECTION OF CARLOS NAKAI, IS MY VERY FAVORITE AND LISTEN TO IT EVERYDAY. WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT IT WAS IN CASSETTE. I WORE IT OUT. WHEN CD CAME ALONG I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE IT AGAIN. IF YOU LONG FOR THE DAYS GONE BY IN NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORIC MUSIC RELM, THIS IS FOR YOU.
Simply Enjoy.......2007-06-02
Transports you to a place of Healing. May the Creator watch over you Carlos Nakai. Best (contemporary) Native Music around.
Haunting.......2007-01-04
Makes a strong connection between earth and spirit. It doesn't get any better than this.
Flute-tastic........2005-11-09
This is an album I got once after a trip to New Mexico, and obviously every time I hear it I'm transported right back to Santa Fe, on a cool night with the smell of mesquite in the air. I'm no expert, but his native american flute is so wonderful and peaceful, and sounds just as I'd expect and want it to. The music is quite relaxing and great to daydream to, and I'll assume "Earth Spirit" is in many a massage parlor. Highly recommended.
Powerful healing tool.......2005-10-08
Have used this recording for many years in my practice and needed to replace it in CD form.

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful album.......2007-03-08
i was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful songs and they are not stereotypical native american musc as on reviewer suggested. my toddler chills to the album before he goes to bed.
Uninteresting.......2007-01-07
Like another reviewer stated, it sounds corny and fake. I must agree. Some of it is ok, but it sounds like commercialized North American Indian music, which I suppose it is.
Good, but Lisa Gerrard repeats herself.......2006-05-19
Dead Can Dance's former singer, Lisa Gerrard, sounds good (like she always does) on this album, yet she repeats herself, coming accross a LOT like she did in "Whale Rider". The oceanic-like quality to her music plays a central role in this soundtrack, and makes me a bit doubtful about future efforts, unless she begins to experiment a little more, like she did in her DCD days.
very relaxing.......2006-02-24
i heard two cuts from this album on a recent 'music from the hearts of space' broadcast last december. needless to say, lisa gerrard's vocals, and here combined with various indigenous north american arrangements, are stellar. i recommend this for those who are looking for ambient sounds to wind the day down. a subtle, powerful, modern collection of soundtrack compositions that is rooted in tradition. quite nice and i do plan on catching the short film next time i'm in DC.
Corny, fake sounding Native American music.......2005-12-17
I am a soundtrack fan, love a good soundtrack, and found this to be incoherent...the music sounded stereotypical and unoriginal. I love Lisa Gerard's contributions to the Gladiator soundtrack but here, her voice is lost in the music. I find this cd to be kind of irritating to listen to, rather than beautiful. I'm trading it in at the local used cd store asap.

Customer Reviews:
Drum Prayer is out of this world !.......2002-12-26
Wow ! This new release from Steve Gordon is really exceptional. I got it as a gift for the holidays and it just blew my mind. The orchestration and exotic insturments are amazing and the blend of vocals with chants from around the world really creates a trencendent sound. I've been blissed out for the past several hours and can't stop playing it. Spectacular and highly recommended !
Drum Prayer made me feel an akin-ship to the whole world........2002-11-13
I've never written a review before, but when I heard this album, I felt compelled to write my feelings down of what it invoked and share them with someone. I've hardly listened to much native sounding music, but this album is much more contemporary and it reached a place in me I didn't know I had. I just sat there and rocked with the rhythms. Drum Prayer made me feel an akin-ship to the whole of the world. I didn't know what the words meant when listening the first couple of times, I just got into the instrumentation and vocals., They were so joyful, so soothing and visionary that I was compelled to at last read the liner notes. The Sanskrit, Tibetan and Lakota chants added to the native drums, flute and guitar are so well woven together, I can't imagine how it could have been done any better. I have played this album countless times already and enjoy it every time. My favorite track is `Holding the Vision'. I highly recommend this album.
Drum Prayer is entrancing.......2002-11-05
I find this new release by Steve Gordon to be exquisite and perfect for massage, yoga, tantra and ecstatic dance. The blending of diverse instruments and sacred devotional chants are absolutely entrancing, making it exceptionally easy to slip deeply into an exhalted state of bliss. The vocals are particularly beautiful. I have really been a fan of Steve's previous work with both his brother David and Deborah Martin, and with the release of Drum Prayer I feel that he's really outdone himself. I absolutely love it.
Drum Prayer Gets High Praises.......2002-10-23
This new solo project release from Steve Gordon is exceptional. A real groundbreaking piece of work for the genre, combining a variety of nature sounds and indigenous instruments from around the world, with chants for world peace from several different cultures including Lakota, Sanskrit and Tibetian. This recording melds all of these apparently diverse cultural aspects and sounds together into a delightfully inspiring and unified mix of ancient shamanic rhythms and contemporary world-beat music. Gordon has assembled a virtual host of top artists for this release, including brother David on piano, vocalists Jaya Lakshmi (Lost at Last), Lakshami Devi and Laurie Lovecraft as well as percussionists Girish Gambhira and Kim Atkinson and the amazing Sarod playing of Wynne Paris, with Digeridoo provided by Peter Van Gorder and additional electric guitar and synthesizer tracks from Spotted Peccary Music's Howard Givens. Drum Payer is brilliantly uplifting while still remaining entrancingly relaxing allowing the listener to explore uncharted expanses of this new and vivid sonic realm. The vocals are sensational and incredibly serene. The CD has been playing in the background of my home office for the past several days and each new listen reveals something new and deeper in the mix. Truly an extraordinary work deserving of the highest praise. Drum Prayer is an absolute winner !
DRUM PRAYER - STEVE GORDON.......2002-10-14
"As a nature enthusiast, I enjoy relaxing outside, reading a good book and listening to "earthy" music that gives me inner peace. That music is DRUM PRAYER by Steve Gordon. This title is a blend of contemporary world beats and ancient sounds with a flavor of sacred chants. I love the jazz/spanish guitar, feathery flutes, native drums and the ambient dance grooves. This is a winner...a 5 Star!!!" Jeananne/Fullerton, CA

Ned Rorem (b. 1923) holds dual citizenship: in the realm of words and the realm of music. In the first, he has produced a notoriously frank multivolume diary; in the second, numerous symphonies and chamber music works. But it is his hundreds of songs that make him famous, for this is where his two worlds meet and merge. However, this disc, celebrating his approaching 82nd birthday, presents three of his instrumental works. Spanning four decades, they vary greatly in style and content, but have in common a singing, sometimes almost spoken quality; Rorem calls this "a setting of words that aren't there." Indeed, both concertos have six movements whose descriptive titles strongly imply a narrative thread. Those of the Violin Concerto (1984) are thematically connected; they begin with "Twilight" and end with "Dawn." Soft, slow, lyrical passages alternate with busy running ones; timpani crash, woodwinds sing, the violin converses with the orchestra. The very difficult, brilliant solo part, played with easy virtuosity and a gorgeous tone by Philippe Quint, exploits every instrumental resource; the orchestration is masterful. The Flute Concerto (2002) was commissioned by the Philadelphia Orchestra for its principal flutist, Jeffrey Khaner, who plays it splendidly on this premiere recording. It features violent dynamic contrasts and imaginative orchestral sound effects; the flute adds color and rhythmic verve, acting more like a partner than a soloist. "Pilgrims" for string orchestra is slow, lyrical, warm, tonal, with lovely soaring melodies. The title refers not to America's founding fathers but to a biblical quote: "...strangers and pilgrims on the earth"; though written in 1958, it too has never been recorded. --Edith Eisler

Another Fabulous Rorem Disc.......2006-08-16
Naxos has issued another excellent CD is what is becoming a Ned Rorem cycle. This CD opens with a short work called Pilgrims, written for string orchestra. The subject of the music has nothing to do with the founding pilgrims but was based on a Bible verse from Hebrews. The mood is one of reflection, not sad but one of recalling things that were not attained. The Flute Concerto was written in 2002 but is more of a suite than a concerto. It was written on a commission from the Philadelphia Orchestra for their principle flautist Jeffrey Khaner, who performs the piece here. The six movements bear the names: The Stone Tower, Leaving-Traveling-Hoping, Sirens, Hymn, False Waltz and Resume and Prayer. The music is a kind of Odyssey, which was considered as a possible title. The concerto begins with an energetic first movement named for the studio in New York where the music was composed, the second is quite and reflective while the third, Sirens, is mysterious with the flute calling out to caress and tempt sailors. Hymn is scored for five instruments: bassoon, piano, trumpet, viola and flute; a short interlude that gives way to the False Waltz with a comic waltz tune interlaced with boisterous music punctuated with tympani. The final part, Resume and Prayer brings back the musical ideas in the prior movements with a long cadenza for the flute, ending quietly.
The Violin Concerto was composed in 1984 and like the Flute Concerto is cast in six movements, again making it more of a suite especially since each movement is treated as a narrative being thematically linked. The movements are: Twilight, Toccata-Chaconne, Romance Without Words, Midnight, Toccata-Rondo and Dawn. The Romance Without Words title was borrowed from Mendelssohn and is a song that had its words removed. As the names indicate, the concerto is something of a journey. Dawn recalls the Twilight section; the jagged rhythms of the Toccata-Chaconne are reflected in the false waltz of the Toccata-Rondo. The soloist, Philippe Quint plays beautifully, especially in the Midnight section with he beautifully conveys the mysterious and melancholy atmosphere. Jose Serebrier conducts another wonderful program of Ned Rorem with the first two works being World Premiere records. I will be looking forward to further releases.
Who knew Rorem's non-vocal music was so wonderful?.......2006-05-20
You can guess from this review's title that it will be a rave. Until I heard Rorem's symphonies (also on Naxos) a couple of years ago, I had no idea that Ned Rorem could write so beautifully for orchestra. Well, I did know, too, because years ago there were recordings of some of his tone poems (String Symphony, Sunday Morning, Eagles -- Louis Lane, Atlanta Symphony) but that was long enough ago that it had slipped from memory. Since hearing this CD I pulled them out and reveled in their beauty, too. On this disc we have two concerti that are entirely engaging, the Flute Concerto and the Violin Concerto, and for 'filler' another tone poem, 'Pilgrims' (for string orchestra).
Pride of place goes to the alluringly beautiful Flute Concerto. Written for and played here by the principal flutist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Jeffrey Khaner, it is a collection of six movements that have little to do with classical concerto forms; Rorem himself says it could just as properly be called a suite (and the same applies to the Violin Concerto). Taking his inspiration partly from the flute music of the impressionists, particularly Debussy, we hear music of many moods. The separate movements have more or less arbitrary titles -- implying but not really outlining some sort of narrative. Rorem has said that no matter what kind of music he is writing he always has silent song lyrics in mind -- 'words that are not there' -- and this gives his music both a narrative feel and a rhapsodic construction. For me the two movements that I connected with most are 'Leaving-Traveling-Hoping' with its pastoral calm, and 'False Waltz' with its repeated timpani figure and skittering flute. (Interestingly, there is a movement in the violin concerto that also has a repetitive timp figure as a kind of chaconne bass.) Khaner, whose name I knew but whose solo work I didn't, is a nonpareil flutist. I particularly like that he doesn't have the fruity vibrato so commonly heard from European flutists. Still, he has numerous tone colors at his disposal; not an easy thing with an overtone-poor instrument like the flute. I am eager to hear more from him.
The Violin Concerto is from 1985 and has previously been recorded by Gidon Kremer, a recording I have not heard. Rather more expressionistic that the Flute Concerto, it too is a six-movement suite rather than a classic concerto. Phillippe Quint, whose recording of William Schuman's violin concerto I quite liked, is a marvelous advocate for this virtuosic work. Still, I am less struck by this concerto than the Flute Concerto, which I feel confident will enter the repertoire.
The 'filler' is Rorem's 1959 'Pilgrims' which doesn't refer to America's founding fathers but takes its title from a passage in Hebrews (11:13) and actually was prompted by a passage quoting that verse in Julien Green's novel 'Le voyageur sur la terre' (we will remember that Rorem lived in France a number of years and is an ardent Francophile). For string orchestra and lasting about seven minutes, it is elegiac and richly harmonized with much use of divisi strings.
The performances here could hardly be bettered. Jose Serebrier, who earlier recorded the three Rorem symphonies with the Bournemouth Symphony, conducts the excellent Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in idiomatic and persuasive accounts of this music. He also contributes the helpful booklet notes.
Enthusiastically recommended, particularly for the Flute Concerto.

SEREBRIER RECORDS MORE ROREM PREMIERES.......2006-05-17
Following on the steps of his memorable recording of the Rorem three symphonies (two of them world-premiere recordings) José Serebrier gives us now the world premiere of Rorem's string
orchestra masterpiece, "PILGRIMS", a gem that should attain the notoriety of Samuel Barber's famous "Adagio for Strings", and the first recording of Rorem's new Flute Concerto, recently premiered by the Philadelphia Orchestra and Jeffrey Khaner, who is the soloist in this CD. Jeffrey Khaner is the solo first flute of the venerable Philadelphia Orchestra.
José Serebrier makes the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic sound
full and warm in the string piece, and absolutely accurate and razor-sharp in the accompaniment of the two concertos. It's hard to imagine a better performance. Obviously the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic is a first-class orchestra, but it takes a master like Serebrier to bring out all their potential. The Flute Concerto is masterfully played by Khaner, who obviously knows every nuance and every note in his heart and mind. He gives a truly spectacular, virtuoso performance. The variety of sound and colors is amazing. The work itself, a sequence of several movements in the form of a suite, is quite different in style and character from the older Violin Concerto, (which was previously recorded by Gidon Kramer and Leonard Bernstein with the New York Philharmonic).
The Violin Concerto in the Naxos CD has the advantage of the soloist, the young Russian-American Philippe Quint, who surpasses Kramer by a long shot, in articulation, musicality, even intonation. It sounds like an incredibly difficult work,
but Quint manages to make it sound easy and even simple. We heard him previously in the memorable recording of the beautiful Concerto by the American composer William Schuman, with José Serebrier conducting the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, (which perhaps was Quint's debut recording). The Rorem performance is even better sounding, which is remarkable, considering that the CD of the Schuman is truly exceptional. Quint sounds now more assured. Obviously he has known the Rorem Violin Concerto for a long time.
"Pilgrims" give the strings of the RLP the opportunity to shine under Serebrier's inspired direction. He manages to obtain a Stokowskian string tone and glow, the sort of sound quality that hasn't been heard on disc since Stokowski. The work and the performance are a delight.
All three works are quite different in character, while the Rorem style and spirit remain recognizable in each. The orchestrations are brilliant and the writing for the solo instruments obviouslly challenging, but extremely idiomatic. It's the kind of recording one wants to hear again and again.
This is one of the most rewarding recordings of new music I have heard in years.

Not worth buying!.......2007-05-29
I found this recording basically worthless. It contains only very short excerpts of the song. Not enough to get into and enjoy!
Don't waste your money.......2007-01-18
This is the worst purchase I have ever made. It is a truly dreadful piece of work.I was so disgusted with it that I threw it into the trash can.
Perfect for "drop the needle" style tests.......2006-11-19
If you want to hear full recordings of arias, then this disc is not for you. It plays only tidbits of 99 arias. Contrary to the title, this is definitely not the only opera disc you'll ever need. You shouldn't take it seriously. This disc has next to no value for an opera neophyte. But for opera fanatics, there has never been a better test of your knowledge of operatic repertoire and singers. It's a great challenge for opera buffs. Sit down with your opera loving friends for an hour, play this disc, and try to be the first to identify the singer, composer, opera, and piece. If you're a music professor, this disc would make for an awesome pop quiz. Find out how well your students really know their opera repertoire.
A CD with Attention Deficit Disorder.......2006-10-02
I don't know anyone who would enjoy this CD. It will drive opera fans nuts with a hundred exerpts that run about 30 seconds each, then fade out without the singers even finishing a single verse. It's more like an index of arias, or a volume of teasers that hucksters might use to sell opera CDs.
I never realized how much Bernstein's "Glitter and be gay" sounded like Delibes' "Bell Song" until I heard 35 seconds of one, followed 23 seconds of the other.
Maybe the TV show 'Jeopardy' could use this CD. 'What is "Hush little baby don't you..."??'
What a waste of beautiful voices and great music. 38 seconds of Enrico Caruso, followed by 31 seconds of Jussi Bjoerling, followed by 38 seconds of Dawn Upshaw.
My copy is going to go sailing into the wastebasket as soon as I finish this review.
This sucks..........2006-03-31
I should only blame myself for not checking out more reviews... this is a CD filled with short, little snippets of great operas songs... and I mean SHORT, LITTLE snippets of 30 seconds or so, each. Don't buy this CD... it is a complete rip off... and that is saying ALOT since it is only $4.00... Again, my fault for not reading the reviews but I trusted that something called a "Music CD" would actually have complete songs... What else does this company offer? A "Music CD" that only has the intros or applause tracks to great songs...?
Move on to something else... Amazon has a great selection... just not this one.

Another highlight in the Adagio series.......2002-05-30
Many of the pieces of music on this disc are masterpieces and all are played to perfection.Barber's Adagio appears twice:in orchestral and choral versions, and the Agnus Dei choral is given loving treatment by the Robert Shaw festival singers. The familiar but never tiring Shaker variations of Copland and the exquisite Lullabye for strings of Gershwin are two quintessential slices of Americana performed by the Cincinnati Pops under Eric Kunzel. The most beautiful work of the collection may be the Anhran from flute concerto by Christopher Rouse. This little piece may find its way on many recordings in the coming years. With all around excellent performances and gorgeous sound this disc is definitely a keeper.
A collection of masterpieces.......2001-08-28
This Telarc CD is a compilation of selections from a dozen different albums. It features slow movements by such greats as Barber, Copland and Gershwin and includes beautiful works by lesser known composers. The album is stylistically varied but is uniformly beautiful, meditative and relaxing. I particularly enjoyed Thomas Canning's "Variations on a Hymn by Justin Morgan". However, I purchased this CD for the final piece, Barber's "Agnus Dei". This particular performance by the Robert Shaw Festival Singers is transcendental. Each time I listen to it, I feel like I've left the here and now and am somewhere that it better and very beautiful. I have other recordings of Agnus Dei that are nice, but seem kind of stiff in comparison to this one. This CD comes with my highest recommendations.
Will transport you..........2000-07-10
Adagios may be slower pieces, but this CD is definitely not simple background music. The tenderness of the Gershwin "Lullaby" and Barber's haunting "Adagio" demand your attention. This is music that soars and takes the listener along.
Contemplative Bliss.......2000-04-22
I bought this disk to get Barber's Adagio for Strings. The entire disk is a contemplatively blissful experience. I don't want to meet the person for whom the "Agnus Dei" based on Barber's Adagio doesn't open the cosmos. I'm online ordering six more copies for my wife to give to friends.
Beautiful compelation of classical music!.......2000-03-14
I am playing the Adagio for Strings by Barber in my orchestra and it is an absolutely moving piece. I watch the film Platoon now every weekend just because the Barber is so amazing to listen to. The Agnus Dei is great too and so are all the other pieces. A fantastic CD that is so much more than a few pieces for the orchestra.

With this disc, Chanticleer, the internationally renowned, all-male 12-voice chamber choir, celebrates its 25th anniversary. Presenting songs from earlier albums plus one not previously recorded, the selection displays the group's remarkable stylistic and linguistic versatility, as well as all the qualities that have made it famous: the impeccable precision and intonation; the pristine tonal purity; the deep, inner expressiveness; the infinitely variable range of colors, textures, dynamics and moods; and the incredible vocal control that allows voices to stand out as well as to blend into a seamless, sonorous whole. Not for nothing has the group been called "an orchestra of voices" with its ability to sound like a big band in chordal passages and to imitate bass pizzicati as well as patter-songs and gospel shouts. The sopranos take off into stratospheric heights with florid coloratura; it is hard to believe that these are male voices. The program ranges from Gregorian chant and liturgical music of the 16th and 17th century, through traditional and jazz-influenced folk songs and spirituals (some in deplorably bad arrangements), to works by contemporary composers. Chanticleer's mostly vibrato-less vocal style still reflects its roots in its original Renaissance repertoire, but the way the singers use their voices in the popular, jazzy songs makes one aware of the evolving kinship between the two traditions. Though primarily an a capella ensemble, Chanticleer is occasionally joined by various instrumental groups, from period instrument orchestras to a jazz trio, and Dawn Upshaw adds her radiant, smiling, unmistakably "real" soprano to a delightful, high-spirited performance of a Spanish Carol. This disc is a fine, varied sampling of Chanticleer's discography and should inspire listeners to search out all the complete albums. --Edith Eisler

My idea of heaven.......2007-02-17
If you liked Norman Luboff's Song's of the Sea's "Shenandoah", the price of this CD is worth it alone. That's why I ordered the CD. I heard Chanticleer's version and immediately ordered it. The rest is just the icing on the cake.
Then there is the one Kiri Tekanawa (sp?) offering, which is the only female voice on the recording.
Wonderful, but not quite the best of I had hoped.......2006-07-18
Some great material truly shines on this album, but I wsih that the group had been a little less populist in their choice of repertoire. There is a little too many arrangements and folk-like material, with the exception of the wonderful "Dulaman", and I would like to have heard some more varied repertoire. That said this is an excellent starting point for this amazing group.
A treasury.......2005-11-06
As you can tell from the samples, the music here is amazing and covers a wide territory. It is less obvious that much of this is available on other CDs. I am confident, for example, that "We Shall Walk Through the Valley In Peace" is the same track that you will find on their phenomenal and highly recommended gospel collection, _Where the Sun Shall Never Go Down_, and I see a number of familiar-looking titles from other CDs. My advice is: if you're looking for a broad sample of the group's repertoire, then you can't go wrong here -- but if you've already got several Chanticleer albums, then you'll want to check your existing collection for potential duplications before buying this 'treasury.'
Chanticleer: A Portrait.......2005-10-26
This is a marvelous singing group of all males with a little addition of Dawn Upshaw on a couple of pieces. They are thourally amazing at what they can sing with Male Voices usually unaccompanied. Obviously they have good strong Contra-Tenors that can manage the high notes without any problems. I would recommend this album to anyone who enjoys vocal music, unaccompanied and like Male Voices
