Album Description
This is one of only two commercially available digital recordings of a von Beckerath organ in the United States. Further, this von Beckerath organ is one of two known to be in this country. The performer and owner of the instrument, Stephen Ketterer, studied piano as a youth, and after experiencing tracker organ performances near his home, began a long love affair with this special instrument. He subsequently began study with Norman Andre, the organist at his local church. When the church's organ began to age, a committee of interested parties was formed to see to its restoration or eventual replacement. Ketterer took a particular interest in this pursuit, and through his involvement developed a great knowledge of organ builders, and the sounds they create through their individual designs. After many years of study and performance, he has committed to disc this recital, featuring his von Beckerath, which he commissioned from builders in Hamburg. Recorded in his music hall at Edgewood, this program displays his skill at the console as well as the sound of this magnificent instrument.

Customer Reviews:
Spirited interpretations presented in spectacular sound.......2000-08-02
Olivier Vernet (born 1964) displays impeccably secure techniques in these interpretations, even at the faster tempi that he chooses over most of his competition. Ornamentation is moderate, and the overall effect therefore tends less to the dramatic as it does sometimes in the case of Ton Koopman. The timbral beauty that constantly characterizes Vernet's playing comes through to a great extent due to Ligia's superb recording: despite the varied venues, the organs never sound too far or too close (to my taste anyway) and colors derived from various registrations are pleasantly captured and represented with amazing clarity.
The slim box (the same thickness as Herreweghe's recent St. Matthew Passion) holds the discs each in their own see-through mylar sleeves and three booklets for track index, literature on the music (in French and English) and stoplists/pictures of all instruments used. Production and artistic values are both very high, and this set certainly merits consdieration from those who have not yet had too many sets of this most glorious music.
