Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars good recording overall.......2003-08-31

The Shanghai Quartet is a great ensemble and Arnold Steinhardt is one of the finest violinists of his generation. This recording is a very good one, except that I don't really like the balance. In the quintet, I feel that the first violinist really doesn't soar above the group in his big solos as he should. The sound is very bottom heavy. I would recommend the recording of Joseph Silverstein and the Boston Symphony Chamber Players.

If you like Brahms, you should buy this disc.
