Rough ideas for sublime Masterpieces.......2004-10-16
"Années de Pèlerinage - Troisième année", S163: played badly, hurried, often vulgar, no elegance or mystic halo. Sometimes his playing seems like "midi-files". I really can't undestand why he hurries so much in a music requiring such theatrical expressiveness, empathization of the musical ideas and deep penetration in the torment of the most religious Liszt! At least, when is written "Lento assai"...
Is that a decent playing? I can remember some young students at the Conservatorium playing those works with more passion, grace and feeling...
Nice pieces in this CD as S245 and S205 but with no doubt, I find the Zoltan Kocsis "Third Year" superlative indeed, not comparable!
"Travel" Vol 3 is another winner.......2000-01-13
