one of the best albums I know.......2000-11-27

I own this album for years, and it's still one of my favorits. Especially the apparant contrast between the sonata and the lyric pieces. The sonata is a liszt-like masterpiece, played on this cd in a precise, but appasionate way. The lyric pieces are played as precise as the sonata, but much more intimate; but not as sweet as on many other recordings. Real chamber music!

Inspirational Grieg.......2000-07-07

Grieg's Lyric Pieces have been recorded by a number of artists, but it is rare to find a recording of the Piano Sonata. This CD is an outstanding collection that includes both of these works. Pianist Leif Ove Andsnes plays with a passion that reminds me of Horowitz, especially in his interpretation of the sonata. I have heard other pianists' interpretations of Grieg's solo works, but none have matched Andsnes' precise and inspired playing...a thoroughly enjoyable CD.
