Elegant Performances of Haydn's Piano Sonatas.......2001-08-29

Although Alfred Brendel probably remains our foremost interpreter of Haydn's music, Mikhail Pletnev demonstrates that he is almost as fine a pianist. Pletnev plays with some warmth and brilliance in these three piano works. Yet he does so without trying to transform Haydn's works into Romantic pieces for the piano. Like Brendel, Pletnev is just as stern a technician at the keyboard.
