Product Description
"The Minnesota Portraits and other music by Carl Schroeder" is a new CD of music for concert band, orchestra, chamber ensembles and solo piano by emerging Minnesota composer Carl Schroeder (b. 1982), a recent graduate of St. Olaf College.
Schroeder's music, which has been described as "searingly beautiful" and "Aaron Copland-esque" often connects with his other interests, including politics and American history, while also drawing inspiration from everyday surroundings.
The disc includes performances of his symphonic band works "Agora" and "The Minnesota Portraits," a three-movement suite depicting various Minnesota landmarks; the orchestral elegy "Christine's Lullaby," written in honor of Christine Lee Hanson, the youngest victim of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks; three solo piano works performed by the composer and the jazz quartet "Core Event."
The works are performed by over 400 Minnesota musicians, including ensembles such as the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, the St. Olaf Band, the St. Olaf Orchestra, the Minnesota Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Calhoun-Isles Community Band.
