This is a Real Album is a well-crafted, impressive indie-pop debut.

About the Artist
THE OFFICIAL STORY OF KID SAMPSON (unofficial)

KID SAMPSON was formed by Mara and Jeremy in the middle of 1996 in the cozy town of Amherst, Massachusetts. Sensing something important happening, Mike quickly joined on to add his percussive gift. The band represents a race against time for its members to play original rock n' roll before they are robbed of their will to live. KID SAMPSON's sound has been described as "riveting," "revolutionary" and "life-giving," however, those quotes were taken... read more

4 out of 5 stars Hula with an R & B spin!.......2007-05-13

I enjoyed the mix of traditional hula with some songs taking on an R & B spin.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome for KIDS! Puts them to sleep!.......2006-03-19

I listened to this music (my daughter is half Hawaiian) when my daughter was a baby ten years ago and it would always soothe her and put her to sleep because it's so soothing and beautiful. Now, my son, when he teeths he is inconsolible! He will not stop for a bottle, to be rocked, sang to, put down in his bed, etc. But I play this, and not even 3 seconds later, he is on his way to la la land. It is wonderful. I recommend it to any parent! Or anyone who wants to de-stress.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite CD.......2006-02-17

Keali'i Reichel has such a nice mellow voice.
His Music is so soothing and Kawaipunahele is my favorite CD of his works!
Keali'i Reichel includes familar songs along with the Hawaiian theme that puts you in a very mellow mood.
Only wish I had this CD when my kids were all small.
I have bought two of this CD one I bought in Hawaii and this one I bought for my girlfriend because she drives a Limo and would use it in the Limo.

5 out of 5 stars Feel the Spirit of Aloha.......2006-02-08

I bought this CD on Maui, listened to it while we were there, brought it home and listened to it and, thanks to the included lyrics, learned the words to all the songs. I don't speak much Hawaiian, but I now can sing some songs in Hawaiian. Keali'i Reichel has a wonderful voice, great talent, a love for Hawaiian traditions and his legacy, and I can feel the Spirit of Aloha as he sings the songs on this CD.

5 out of 5 stars You've got to have this one!.......2005-08-30

As you know, all of Keali'i's CD's are recommended. This one was his debut CD, released in 1994. It features traditional Hawaiian favorites such as "Akaka Falls," as well as original compositions including "E Ho'i I Ka Pili," "Kauanoeanuhea," and the title track, "Kawaipunahele." It also contains cover versions of The Beatles' "In My Life" and Sticks' "Come Sail Away." Keali'i's chanting comes across at the beginning of "In My Life" and in the last track, "He Mele Inoa No Kawaipunahele." Be sure to pick this one up!

4 out of 5 stars almost as good........2003-11-01

What can i say, that soundtrack was almost as good as "mallrats", the movie is really good. tho i had trouble finding i had trouble finding it, i actually found the dvd at wall-mart.

5 out of 5 stars The sum of all my fears............2003-03-08

.......great soundtrack for sure...this is a generation x movie led by Ben Affleck....I liked the movie though...he looked so funny with his NOFX albums and posters all over the room, and gibberishing some Bouncing Souls song....all that is great l..the only bad thing was that sorry movie...the sum of all fears....where he acted totally wrong....being a slave of the country instead of making fun of it like all good punkers....nice album anyway...

5 out of 5 stars Hey Music Fan in Chicago.......2000-09-22

I'm in Chicago too. Glory Daze is one of the greatest "Gen X" movies ever made because it comes closest to truthfully portraying people of that age-group. Anyhow, the song by Mudhoney, "Acetone" is on the album Piece Of Cake.

4 out of 5 stars Question.............2000-03-22

The song at the end of the movie was called "Acetone" and i cannot find it ANYWHERE....it's by Mudhoney....does anyone know where i can find it?? If so, please email me at BENZ007@aol.com Thanks Alot!

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent Album.......2005-02-03

One of the best flamenco albums I've ever heard. Phenomenal guitar playing with traditional style instrumentation. Some flamenco guitarists I've listened to lately play technically awesome music, but without passion. Not so for this artist. Vocals, clapping and dancing enhance some tracks but are minimalistic. The main focus is the virtuosity of the guitarist. I like the way he incorporates exotic sounding arabic/persian scales and themes to create the enchanting interplay between harmony and dissonance that makes flamenco so haunting.
Check out his other albums "El Gitano Punky" and "Flamenco Obsession" available on emusic.com

    4 out of 5 stars Flamenco Celebration.......2004-11-18

VIVA EL FLAMENCO demonstrates that the lively guitar-based clap dance style can be everywhere, from Teye's introductory rumba to a tango a buleria and a sevillana.
Listeners seeking a gorgeous diverse display of flamenco's various incarnations will relish Teye's VIVA EL FLAMENCO, a celebration of the overall style.

    5 out of 5 stars A ONCE IN A LIFETIME TALENT.......2001-05-24

ONCE IN A WHILE AN ARTIST COMES ALONG WHO BLOWS AWAY PREVIOUS NOTIONS OF WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC CAN COME FROM A GUITAR. THE CD VIVA EL FLAMENCO IS A MASTERPIECE FROM TEYE, THE ARTIST WHO IS BLOWING AWAY MY PRECONCEPTIONS OF WHAT GUITAR PLAYERS ARE CAPABLE OF. FROM THE FIRST TO THE LAST TRACK THIS CD IS A GUITAR PLAYERS INSPIRATION. TEYE PLAYS WITH A FURY, AND A FEEL OF JUST "CUTTING LOOSE" THAT IS RARELY FOUND IN GUITAR PLAYERS TRAINED IN CLASSICAL STYLES. HE SEEMS TO BE PLAYING FROM THE GUT AS MUCH AS HIS BRAIN. THE TALENT THIS MAN POSSESSES IS TRULY AWESOME. A MUST BUY FOR ANY MUSICIAN OR MUSIC LOVER.

    5 out of 5 stars great!!!.......2001-05-04

Viva El Flamenco CD by the flamenco artist "Teye" is the best flamenco CD I have purchased in the last 10 years. His style of flamenco is unique and exciting.

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2001-05-04

I purchased this CD after seeing Teye live in an incredible show. He plays with such intensity and emotion, you can almost see the music fly from his guitar. If you enjoy Spanish guitar, this CD is a must.

4 out of 5 stars This is indeed a real album........2000-11-22

While not as sonically adventurous as Last Chance Soda, this CD shows off Kid Sampson's originality and songwriting skills well. I suppose if I had to categorize these guys it would be as indie rock, but KS rises above the indie crowd with their musicianship and writing. The songs have strong and memorable melodies backed by harmonically adventurous chord changes, a real rarity in the musically impoverished contemporary rock scene. The songs are intellectual without sacrificing catchiness and emotional intensity. The band delivers them with conviction and intelligence. Mara Levi's basslines are especially critical to their distinctive sound; instead of just thumping out the root notes on every beat, she plays ear-catching countermelodies. Her wordless backup singing does the same thing. Jeremy Sosenko's guitar and Mike Sullivan's drumming are also solid and on a higher level of musicality than that of most of their indie peers. As for vocals, the combination of Jeremy's sardonic punk-rock snarl and Mara's sweet soprano makes for an interesting and unusual mix.

Here as on Last Chance Soda, though, what really stands out is the songwriting. Jeremy Sosenko particularly deserves praise as a lyricist; he combines heartfelt emotion with a dry and sarcastic wit, and he has a rare ear for good rhymes. In my favorite of his songs, Watershed, he has some really great lines: "And I wouldn't be so spineless if I only had the nerve/I'll mock you for your blindness but I wish I had your verve/people who need people know that people never get what they deserve." Or take this line, from Is This What You Wanted: "He's waxing his car, and waxing profound/he'd rather have you than have you around." This is the kind of writing that makes me think of Jeremy as the Cole Porter of indie rock. There are a lot of really memorable songs here, using some widely different moods. There are the uptempo rock tunes that get the blood pumping - So Right, Henry/Hank, Watershed, The Way I'm Feeling Now, Power Trip. There's the abstract and indescribable B7. There are thoughtful and emotional ballads - Is This What You Wanted, In Her Hand, The Night Won't, the folkish Sweet Misery. Throughout the disc, the band stays unpredictable - the way the beat and key keep changing in The Way I'm Feeling Now, the chorus in Power Trip, all of B7. In a rock world saturated with sound-alike bands and empty songs, it's good to know that people like Kid Sampson can keep things fresh and exciting.

              4 out of 5 stars A Good Start.......2000-08-30

With this just being their debut effort, Kid Sampson are suprisingly Good! The drummer Mike Sullivan is perhaps the most gifted drummer in music today.
