Eight years and four albums down the line from their California inception at the relatively tender age of 13, and the artists formerly known as the Electrocutes and Raggedy Ann have forged an evocative style of razor-edged, good-time rock & roll that positively redefines exuberance. The onset of musical maturity has seen the Donnas honing their melodic and harmonic chops, while steadily moving away from their undeniably seductive yet irrefutably restrictive Ramones-clone roots to embrace the dynamic metal manners of a roughshod Joan Jett or a punked-up AC/DC. The sneering, ennui-soaked vocals of Donna A. leave the stylistic frills to Donna R.'s guitar. And as Donnas C. and F. provide a rock-solid rhythmic backdrop, the combined effect is so gloriously visceral, slack-jawed, and entirely bereft of affectation and contrivance, that even an irony-free cover of Judas Priest's "Livin' After Midnight" seems to make some kind of mosh-hastening good sense. --Billy Fisher

4 out of 5 stars No longer punk, but better hard rock than most modern albums.......2005-10-27

Yes, by this time the Donnas had pretty much abandoned The Ramones as their sole insipiration, drawing from other bands of the time which have been mentioned elsewhere. The Ramones and punk are still there, but the influence is much less obvious than before. The simple chord stuff from before is being laced with hard rock riffs straight out of Donna R's guitar.

The first song's chords indicate immediately that this is a different album from the others. It's more produced - guitars, drums, and bass are clearer, and Donna A's voice is more tuned. It's also very obvious that this is hard rock, as mentioned before. They are going more for a "party rock" atmosphere than going against the establishment as noted in their first album and ATRnRM.

The solos are there and prominent. I'm sorry if you do not like solos, but let me just say that Donna R can play the guitar very well, and she should inspire a lot of girls everywhere to step up to the spotlight and play. There's an obvious statement in her solos that she can and will prove that she can play as well as the boys can.

This may be their weakest effort to date, but that's really not saying much, as this album is one that you can put on in a party and you never have to worry about skipping one. A lot of energy and a lot of technical proficiency.

5 out of 5 stars Love it........2005-09-29

This is my thrid review on The Donnas, and once again, I find this to be an amazing CD. The guitar playing is just amazing, vocals are great, bass is fantastic, and dummer is superb.

The track list and my rating are as followed:

Are You Gonna Move It For Me 5/5- GREAT opener to a great album

Do You Wanna Hit It 10/5- Probably my favorite on the CD, wish there was a solo though.

40 Boys In 40 Nights 5/5- I love this song, its really fun, give it a listen.

Play My Game 5/5- Great drum beat in the beggining then blows to a hard punk song.

Midnight Snack 5/5- A great fun song, once again give it a listen.

Drivin' Thru My Heart- 10/5- Another favoite of mine, meaningful lyrics, great solo, just an all around great song.

You've Got A Crush On Me- 5/5 AMAZING SOLO!!

Little Boy- 4/5- Its good : ).

Don't Get Me Busted-5/5 Very AC/DC

Police Blitz 4/5- Its a good song wish it was kinda longer.

Hot Pants- 5/5- The name says it all.

Gimme A Ride 5/5 I LOVE THIS SONG!

Living After Midnight- 5/5- A Great cover with this Judas Prist classic, but I think this one is better than the original.

Nothing To Do- 4/5- No solo :'(, oh well, still a great song.

If you like The Donnas, what the hell, buy it!!

5 out of 5 stars awesome cd.......2005-08-02

3 out of 5 stars Just a Little Crush.......2005-01-28

After making a classic album "Get Skintight" The Donnas makes an album that made me so interested. This album is good but it has some kind of boring feeling. The songs like "Are You Gonna Move It for Me", "Midnight Snack", "Drivin' Thru My Heart", "You've Got a Crush on Me", "Gimme a Ride" give some kind of feeling that these girls just make punk music and they have nothing new to give. The lyrics are also very boring...they make music just for music...well it's great that there's is some great punk songs like "Do You Wanna Hit It", "40 Boys in 40 Nights", "Play Me Game", "Little Boy", "Hot Pants", "Don't Get Me Busted", "Nothing to Do", and the great Judas Priest cover (from British Steel) "Living After Midnight" that it's even better than the original.
Stars: 40 Boys in 40 Nights, Nothing to Do, Play My Game

5 out of 5 stars VERY VERY SUPRISINGLY AMAZING ROCK N ROLL!.......2005-01-11

Like many of you rockers,at first I thought The Donnas were just another mtv band like sum 41 or linkin park who either played depressing whiner rock or anything else mtv's legions eat up these days. But could I have been any more wrong???These girls are an amazing rock band with lots of grit and raunch. What other girl group can cover tunes by Motley Crue,Judas Priest, and Alice Cooper without sounding forced? The songs on here are no-nonsense rockers with shredding guitars and head thrashing vocals.Definitely an album you can listen to without pressing the skip button. This is pure rock and roll the way it was meant to be played. The last time a band like this came around was back in 1976:The Runaways which included guitar goddess Lita Ford and the ever raunchy Joan Jett.

I am a huge fan of rock and roll and these girls surpassed my expectations.Don't think Avril Lavinge or Sum 41.Instead think Motley Crue/ACDC/Kiss in one package mixed in with some small hints of The Ramones and The Runaways topped off with a very raunchy femme fatale filled attitude!I prefer this album along with Get Skintight and Spend The Night.

(The Japanese issue of this album is worth the extra bucks because it is the only place you will find The Donnas' ear shattering cover of Alice Cooper's "School's Out")
