Album Description
Released in December of 2001, Scream The Sound is The Emerald Down's debut full length CD. With it's huge guitar swells, sexy melodies and fluid vocal harmonies the album's sonic landscape has been compared to bands such as Secret Shine, the Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Curve, Slowdive and Pink Floyd. However, Scream The Sound maintains a raw, loud and dirty edge that makes it appealing to fans of other music genres. Scream the Sound has been receiving rotation on college radio stations in the US, Canada and Europe. The CD was recorded by Andy Bosnak and Laurent Bichara at Engine Studios, Chicago, IL in just four days with no track over dubs except for vocals and some tambourine. For that reason Scream The Sound is a great live capture of the band's sound.

5 out of 5 stars Great Live Hardcore!!!.......2006-05-19

Brutal Juice was the best band to come out of Denton, Texas in the mid-late 1990s. During a time of space rock and lame college rock, Brutal Juice hammered down some great hardcore stuff. "I Love the Way They Scream When They Die" is a great live album, the band's only live album, and one of only two full length CDs that Brutal Juice ever recorded. This CD has songs that aren't on their other album, "Mutilation Makes Identification Difficult" and that you won't find anywhere else, except a few singles floating around (good luck finding those).

After a pretty successful local career, Brutal Juice made a stab a the mainstream, they even had a video on MTV's 120 Minutes (if you remember that show, you know it had some good stuff...and some terrible stuff). They toured nationally with GWAR, but never got a big break. So the band broke-up. They still play a very rare gig in Denton or Dallas, TX, and they still have it.

The bottom line is that this CD ROCKS. If you like punk/hardcore, you will like this.

5 out of 5 stars Great loud worship!.......2002-09-06

Christin has perfectly captured some incredible moments with this cd. Her songwriting skills never cease to amaze me, and she has been blessed with the ability to pour out OUR hearts to God. When you play this cd, you'll be hearing yourself cry out to God in so many ways. "Live Loud" starts it off and is one of my favorite songs on this cd. She really cuts loose on this one and I can imagine it's incredible to hear this one live. "Deeply in Love" is another great one that's penned by someone else, but Christin really makes it hers. Her voice is beautiful, and you'll be swept away by her moments into the song. Every song here is good, with "I Surrender" being a highlight for me because of how she adds to an old hymn and makes it rock! "Breathe" is great here too. Just buy this cd. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The Emerald Down -slowdive with a punch-.......2006-08-04

Truly amazing atmospheric sound mixed with old school Slowdive and driven home with an nice punch of energetic droning guitars. They really do sound a lot like Slowdive and "Scream the Sound" could have been a slowdive release had they stayed together for a few more years. Rather than calling them a rip-off band, I feel that they are carrying the flame where Slowdive left off. Most of the songs approach or extend over the 6 minute mark while rising and falling with different waves and washes of sound to break the mold of monotone senseless drowning. The addition of real drums, although often overly simplified in beats, just adds a perfect touch to the beautiful noise. Why the Emerald is not a big name is incomprehensible, but I think the modern listener expects I-Pod friendly accessible music that can be played anywhere at anytime. You cannot be spoon fed "Scream the Sound" or listen once and sing along. With each listen, I find yet another layer in the "wall of sound" and can sense that they took the shoegaze sound to a whole new level.

I can't find a website or any info about the band. No one seems to have ever heard of the Emerald. Just a gem in obscurity and maybe its better that way.
