Soundtracks are a mixed bag at best. Some are little more than an assortment of pieces, but others hang together effectively on their own, like this one. The idea of Chinese music--both popular and operatic--juxtaposed with the sounds of Nat King Cole performing Latin music might seem bizarre, but it works beautifully, sustaining a lush, romantic mood created both by the strings and the '40s Chinese music, itself a tinkling Hollywood pastiche. But as atmospheric as all this is, one track stands out above the others: "Blue," actually a version of the classic "St. James' Infirmary," takes on another dimension in Chinese hands. While familiar but completely alien at the same time, the slithering Asian sonorities mesh perfectly with the African-American form to create something evocative but with a sadness that goes beyond blues. The movie is of a time and place; the soundtrack is of a mood and yearning. Listen at night, with someone you love close by. --Chris Nickson
Customer Reviews:
Awsome Instrumental Music.......2007-03-09
The soundtrack is really good; I didn't like some of the songs (the Chinese ones) but there are only 3 in the whole CD. The instrumental music is awesome making the soundtrack an average good.
The Bing Crosby songs are very good but...........2006-07-17
In my opinion it`s the Bing Crosby-songs that makes this album worth buying, but these songs can be bought on compilations. The rest of the music is for people with special interest for backgroundmusic in films.
AMAZING! Hauntingly beautiful..........2006-05-09
So beautiful and emotional, it makes you want to cry! The score for the film and the collection of music together is absolutely breathtaking....
A great soundtrack for a lover of WKW films.......2006-03-22
I loved the film, so I love the soundtrack, which brings back memories of the film. WKW uses period music to evoke the emotions and feel of the time period of the film.
as gorgeous as the film!.......2006-02-11
Film soundtracks are often disappointing---there are songs from the movie that are not on the CD, songs on the CD that were not in the film, different versions of songs on the CD than in the film, etc.
Happily, this soundtrack is absolutely faithful to the film, and it is masterfully interwoven with dialogue excerpts from the film which complement and build on the music instead of being obtrusive. I don't understand a word of Chinese but still enjoyed listening to the actors' voices, and also liked the bits of traditional Chinese music as well. There are some tracks that I don't remember from the film but they are not throw-away filler in any way, just beautiful extras in the same vein.

Walter Trout is not about tastefulness and subtlety--he is about ferocious intensity, exhilarating speed, and raw energy. This double-disc set (at single-disc price) presents Trout's complete, unedited performance from the March 2000 Tampa Bay Blues Fest (where they say he upstaged headliner Susan Tedeschi), and it is truly a thrilling ride. Running on adrenaline after a sleepless day and night traveling, Trout rolls through heavy blues rockers, slow 12-bars, soulful groovers, and even a Dylan cover. To be sure, this is pure blow-your-mind, "guitar god" kind of stuff that many blues purists may not enjoy. There are definitely times that Trout's incessant over-the-top style becomes slightly tedious, and there's not much in the way of originality, unless you count the fact that few others are even capable of such supersonic licks and unearthly tones. Still, despite the lack of a truly distinctive sound, Trout's ability to consistently fan the flames is amazing, and his voice, while not on a par with his guitar, is passionate and powerful. If you are a fan of pedal-to-the-metal electric blues-rock, few can match Trout in terms of sheer dexterity and drive. --Marc Greilsamer

PHENOMENAL.......2006-11-22
Walter Trout is an amazing, amazing guitar player and very soulful singer, and this two-cd set captures that perfectly. Trout's guitar technique blows everyone away-- with the possible exception of Gary Moore. (Have those two ever gone toe to toe onstage? A frightening prospect.) Over-the-top blues rock and gutsy vocals. The liner notes are an inspiring testament to Walter's Christian faith and dedication to his fans.
Walter Trout Melted My Stereo.......2006-10-10
This CD is a blues/rock guitar-driven 4th degree assault on your ears. If you are looking for something to brush the cobwebs out of your skull, this is it. Someone told me this was God's favorite CD.
new discovery.......2006-08-15
I knew very little of Walter Trout before I bought this disc. The man is an amazing guitarist that reminded me of a cross between Roy Buchanon and Frank Marino. Gary Moore, Stevie Ray and Snowy White move over and make room for Walter Trout to stand proudly amoung you.
Slow down dude.......2005-04-24
I finally picked up a W.Trout cd after years of reading about him. He is no doubt a talented guitarist. My problem is, (and I know most will say WHAT), I think he continually plays too fast. After awhile its like the solos all just blend together into one long blur. I really don't care for his vocals either. I think the best song on the album is Walking in the Rain. Great riffs and tone. To me there is only one heir to the throne of SR Vaughn and he is............Jimmy Thackery. Pick up Sinner Steet or Drive to Survive. Both are awesome....
Jump at chance to be at Walter Trout & the Radicals gig.......2004-07-26
If you are looking for a man and a band who can give you everything they've got; look no further. If you are searching for music that will sear into your soul; look no further. Walter Trout can play his guitar up there with the best of them. He can also DO things with a guitar that will leave you speechless. In his hands, the instrument can wail, talk, cry, moan, whisper or do anything he asks of it. His singing voice is powerful and comes from the depths of his heart. He truly presents his all to you in this live performance CD. His energy will be transferred to you and be engraved into your memory and you will be grateful you found your way to the performance venue of this remarkable musician and his band. The next best thing to being there is this 2 CD album.

This is where it all began. Ten years ago, Ottmar Liebert brought flamenco music to the world with a new style of playing he dubbed, appropriately, nouveau flamenco. Ten years later, despite such adventurous CDs as Opium and The Hours Between Night and Day, Nouveau Flamenco remains his most popular CD. The reasons are obvious. Although Liebert is a technically gifted player, he lets the melodies of his flamenco-inspired tunes ring out over his own virtuosity. That's what makes songs like "Barcelona Nights" and "Sante Fe" so memorable. Nouveau Flamenco spawned countless imitators, some of them even very good, but this CD instantly reveals why Liebert has managed to be the top-of-the-brain name for modern flamenco music. On Nouveau Flamenco: 1990-2000, they've remixed everything, extended some tracks out a bit and brought in five additional pieces recorded at the same time as the original CD. The resequencing may throw off your memories of the original, and the mix here tends to be thinner and less reverberant, but one decade and millions of CD sales later, Nouveau Flamenco still lives up to its title. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Soothing.......2006-04-24
If beautiful guitar music is your thing, you don't want to miss this cd. This is some of the most beautiful guitar sounds you will ever hear.
I'm a wedding officiant/minister in south Texas and as such, many of the weddings I perform have an hispanic flavor to them. I've found this music to be extremely popular for the pre-procession when people are gathering their seats and waiting for the ceremony to begin. I play this often and without fail, have somene comment on it later, wanting to know what it was.
You'll love the mellow, soothing sounds. I often play it at home, particularly when I'm relaxing on the back patio on a warm summer evening with a cool glass of lemonade.
First experience with Nouveau Flamenco.......2004-06-04
For someone new to Liebert's work this disc was a pleasant eye opener with excellent quality and variety. I found it relaxing, exciting, soothing, romantic and fantasizing. I could actually picture myself at a Mexican resort on the beach with dancers sourrounding our table.
I could also visualize myself at home in a meditation listening to this CD; yes, exciting and relaxing at the same time. After listening to this CD a couple of times on the radio, I heard that Liebert was coming to town in an outdoor concert in three weeks and like a fantasy come true, I got a couple of friends together, played the CD in their car, and got three tickets for dinner and a concert. We are all psychologists, and this concert is our weekly gathering for business, pleasure, and entertainment.
great music.......2003-05-31
If you want to listen to some great guitar music, whether you call it flamenco or not, this is the guy you want to listen to. His music is both upbeat, and relaxing. I first heard "Barcelona Nights" about 8 yrs ago, and I couldn't forget it. This whole disc it excellent, you can't go wrong, and I think you will get hooked on his music just as I did.
Buy the ORIGINAL-- nothing is "special" about this edition!.......2003-01-19
"Special" doesn't always mean better!
Get the original album that was released in 1990. This flat re-release boasts "extra tracks" that in reality are just remixes masquerading as new material. Note that the above editor's review mentions the "thinned" out sound of the special edition versus the original release. I agree completely, and that is the bulk of my complaint about this cd. The original version was meatier, had more purposeful arrangements, and the sound was unique without being flashy.
This new edition, however, is a castration. New age guitar music already teeters dangerously on the edge of the easy-listening abyss, and this remastering has pushed 'Nouveau Flamenco,' a recording that barely evaded the evil clutches of Lite Jazz, into the bubble-bath music category.
Bottom line: if you want MUSIC, purchase the original release in all of its dynamic acoustical glory; if you want a collection of lullabies or a smooching soundtrack, pick up this so-called "special" edition, complete with its extra synthesizers and a computer's sense of rhythm.
Flamenco ?.......2002-12-23
Is it laziness, ignorance, lack of respect? Or where is the big obstacle finding out what real Flamenco is? Ottmar Liebert is just posing as a flamenco guitarist.
There are a lot of new, real flamenco guitarists with infinitly more 'duende', 'compás' & 'aire':
Manolo Sanlúcar, Serranito, Paco de Lucia, Tomatito, Moraito, Vicente Amigo, Pepe Habichuela, Gerardo Núñez, José Antonio Rodríguez, Niño Josele, Rafael Riqueni, Chicuelo, El Viejin, Jeronimo, Enrique de Melchor, Juan Carlos Romero, Cañizares etc etc
Í have no problem with his music except the 'flamenco' label he is selling it with - ottmar's has absolutely nothing to do with flamenco. Its just his way to make money......

A one-time preacher who has logged long hours onstage at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry backing country graybeards such as Grandpa Jones (Hee Haw), Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, and Tennessee Ernie Ford, Doyle Dykes is a skilled acoustic guitarist who integrates elements of folk, classical, pop, gospel, and jazz into likeable, refined instrumental works. Popular in Europe, Dykes leans far more heavily on structure and melody (and less on introspection and experimentation) than other fingerpickering proponents in the Windham Hill fraternity, most notably Michael Hedges and Alex de Grassi. Dykes's sound, in comparison, is almost entirely different; it offers a cozier, sweeter savor, though it exudes a level of sophistication and complexity that elevates his tunes a notch above typical easy-listening fare. The Jacksonville, Florida, native wisely soft-shoes his overtly spiritual instincts and instead delivers an agreeable, densely chorded package that can easily appeal to secular ears. Highlights: Dykes's thoughtful interpretation of "The Lord's Prayer," the homey panache of "Nothing's Too Good for a Friend," and the earnest, finger-flying energy heard on "Angel's Desire." --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Bland and Insipid Can Do Better........2007-07-20
This must rank as one of the most disappointing buys I've ever made.
The gushing reviews that I have seen for this product are an offence to reason. Most reviewers make reference to his live perfomances or other tracks they have heard. Why? None of that is present on THIS album.
The guy is almost certainly a very talented player but has made a very bad choice of producer(if he was given a choice) and the whole thing strikes me an excersise in targeted marketing rather than an artist presenting his work.
The music is of the standard you might expect to be played in a restaurant. To be honest I've heard much better played in restaurants.
The opening couple of tracks showed some promise but then the saccharine coating arrived in the form of some of the most awful string arrangements I've ever heard. Particularly execrable is an appallingly insipid version of 'Girl' (yes it's the Beatles song) which pretty much sums up the approach to to the album: zero imagination, zero inventiveness.
Apparently his earlier albums were much better and his live playing is something to behold. I guess the Wyndham Hill label must bear the greatest part of the responsibility for this travesty of wasted talent and effort.
If you want music to nod off to it is quite possible you may find this a useful product, otherwise, steer well clear.
Doyle Is A Top-Notch Guitar Player!!!.......2005-12-29
I heard parts of this CD on our local public radio station when it first came out. Doyle is a top-notch guitar player!!! He is one of the best fingerstyle guitar players that I have ever heard. The best songs are Gitarre 2000, Girl (an old Beatles song remade), and The Lord's Prayer. Thanks Doyle!!!
"...when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life." .......2005-07-09
taken from Proverbs 13:12 (Amplified.) Doyle Dykes is a very special artist you should hear. His acoustic guitar playing resonates his joyful heart. It's so hard to express in words how his music makes me feel! I just wish the whole world could hear it! With each listen, my heart feels uplifted beyond comprehension. You're missing out if you haven't heard Doyle.
This is his debut and I'm blown away. Each and Every song is like a precious gift, for each listener. I know you will be touched by his "flawless technique" and "heartfelt passion." Each song builds on the former getting better and better, expanding into dizzying heights of beauty--I love albums that achieve this as it so Rare. Some of my favorite songs are: "The Road Back Home," "Caleb's Report," "Shadows of the Heart," and definitely his lovely rendition of "The Lord's Prayer." [This song was sung at my wedding and it's always been in my heart since that day. I enjoy singing it often to my daughter before bedtime.] "Angel's Desire" and "The Visitation" complete the musical feast of the ears, heart, mind and soul.
In his dedication, Doyle thanks his family (wife Rita, and four children) for their encouragement and inspiration in his music. And expresses his love and gratitude. But he goes on..."I also dedicate this album to the giver of life and music...our Creator and Lord. At age eleven, I became a believer in Christ, and I wanted to do something "special" for Him. The desire to play guitar came to me as real as the sun rising on a fresh spring morning. That desire has never left me. I still love to play."
May we all pursue our God given desires for they are Holy and will always guide us on the path of excellence and joy. o8E
Soar!
Gitarre 2000.......2002-07-23
Doyle Dykes is a guitar player supreme, but this CD gave me some dissapointment. After whatching Doyle on the Grand Old Opry I thought maybe this CD would have some real down home pickin, but It doesn't. I would prefer to hear him play some real hard knockin traditional music which he is so outstanding at.
Incredible.......2001-12-19
No one else that I have ever seen plays with more skill or emotion. An incredible guitarist yet humble and real. If you are a guitarist, you will appreciate Doyle Dykes.

Swedish singer Bosson was nominated for a "Best Original Song" Golden Globe Award for this album's lead-off cut and single "One in a Million." Its free-floating, lightweight pop perfectly reflects the lighthearted humor that underpins Sandra Bullock's film about an undercover FBI agent sent to infiltrate the Miss America pageant. Beats per minute are kept at a brisk, steady pace as even old-time showboater Tom Jones has his kitsch-classic "She's a Lady" remixed and hyper-energized by electronica artist BT. The Baha Men, who last let the dogs out, try for hit number two with "Get Yer Party On." A*Teens provide a smooth remake of Abba's "Dancing Queen," while Los Lobos update the Wilson Pickett R&B classic "Mustang Sally." Southern Culture on the Skids, with the help of a festive horn section, keep things lively with "Liquored Up and Lacquered Down." No question here, there's a party goin' on. --Rob O'Connor

One In A Million..........2007-03-01
One In A Million is the most hot beat from this album and I love the rest of the songs from this album and I begin to wonder what does it compare to the 2nd Album??? Is it any good than this one?? I havent got a chance to buy the 2nd ablum but I do have 1st and 2nd DVD of Miss Congeniality but 2nd soundtrack is my huge concern because it wont let us be able to listen to it before we buy it. I have read the reviews but it only has 2 people that left comment about it but I know we all dont have the same opinion tho.
Great soundtrack!.......2004-06-18
This is one of the best soundtracks EVER!!!! All the songs are great(especially "One in a Million") and make you remember the movie, which is also the best movie you'll ever see. One thing I'm dissapointed in is that in the movie "Miss Congeniality" the song "One in a Million" had a very cool arrangement, like in the begginning, the song was slow, and then it became fast. Does anybody know where I can find that version of the song? Thanks!
A Great Soundtrack to a Great Movie.......2003-07-02
Miss Congeniality is a great movie, and the sountrack is great too! Each song totally rocks, and fits very well with the movie. Some of the best songs off the CD are:
*One in a Million ~ It's a pretty cheesy song, I mean, it's from a beauty pageant and all, but it's really fun and bouncy. Good to dance to, and it's got a good tempo.
*Dancing Queen ~ A*Teens do a really good remake of the song, and it also makes you want to dance. This is my favorite track on the CD.
*None of Your Business ~ I love this song! It's really "in your face" and cool! The only bad thing about it is that it gets stuck in your head easily.
*She's A Lady ~ My friends and I always sing along with this song when it comes on during the movie! It's cool and the lyrics are really funky.
This CD is great, it's really fun, and the songs all make the movie sooooooooooooooo much better! I reccommend this CD if you liked the movie, or if you like pop music!
Overall grade: A
Totally Cool~.......2003-04-06

4. Anywhere USA - WONDERFUL! 5 stars*
5. Dancing Queen - So cool! 5 stars*
6. Lets get it on - I cannot stand! 1 star*
7. Get ya party on - The coolest song on the CD! 5 stars*
8. None of your business - NEAT, but not my favorite! 4 stars*
9. Mustang Sally - Old, but still cool! 5 stars*
10. Bullets - STUPID AND I HATE IT! 1 star *
11. Liquored Up and Lacquered Down- Listen to the words! 4 stars*
12. Miss United States - HILARIOUS! 4 stars*
13. One in a Million - I love it! 5 stars*
This CD is so neat there is only 2 songs I hate on this CD, the others are so worth it!
Not a bad C-D.......2002-06-27
This cd has a lot of pop sounding songs on it. When I first saw the movie and heard the songs I wanted to get the soundtrack immediatly. My faves would be Anywhere USA, One In A Million(I love that one!), and Dancing Queen. This cd is really rad!

Dance culture, and the rave scene in particular, has been a potentially ripe film topic for years, so when Groove was released to heavy buzz at the Sundance film festival, Sony Pictures immediately saw a possible summer sleeper. With John Digweed making a cameo appearance, as well as a savvy mixture of featured music throughout the movie, Groove's soundtrack will do nothing but contribute to the film's success. West Coast dance fixture Wish FM, a.k.a. Wade Hampton, serves as the film's music supervisor, and he comes up with a compelling mix that nicely parallels the momentum of the movie's broiling dance-floor sequences. Starting off with some light house, then darkening his touch into deeper, more trancing territory, Wish reaches a zenith with Digweed's "Heaven Scent," using its soaring keyboard refrain as a natural peak. There are peaks all over this record, though, as Orbital's "Halycon + On + On" and Scott Hardkiss's mix of Alter Ring's "Infinitely Gentle Blows," with its electrified vocal mishmash, provide ever-entrancing moments of turntable bliss. The movie's director, Greg Harrison, has said he intended the film to act "as an authentic document of a time in youth culture history"--his movie's soundtrack is definitely that. --Matthew Cooke
Customer Reviews:
Get your "Groove" on........2004-07-13
I thought the movie was actually pretty acurate, and this soundtrack does a good job too. It may be missing a few songs, but what's here is all worthy, and the continuous mix is a big plus. "Girls Like Us" is a catchy start, and I really like how "Halycon + On + On", "Anomaly (calling your name)", and "Heaven Scent" flow into each other, and the disc ends nicely as well. Overall this may not be the perfect selection, but if raves and trance/dance are your thing, then this should get you in the "Groove".
We need more.......2004-03-19
This CD is good but a lot of songs from the movie were left out. I read rumors of a second CD but that seems to have faded away...too bad. As another reviewer pointed out, an awesome track called Bluebottle by POB (which I found on the CD "Platipus Beginner's Guide") is missing. I didn't know the track's name before buying this disc and was disappointed that it wasn't here. I thought it was the best track in the movie. Overall, still a CD worth owning.
Curious.......2004-01-30
I really enjoyed the movie, I think it captured the spirit of a rave pretty well. I haven't bought the soundtrack yet for one simple reason. I've heard most of the songs on the sndtrk and I dont think it contains the song I'm looking for, which I dont know the name.
Its been awhile since I've seen the movie, but the song is playing as some of the characters go into the *chill room*. Its a real ambient song, slower beat, easier to chill to. If anyone knows the name of the song/artist, It'd be great to know.
I wasn't too happy with the rest of the tracks on the album as it left out alot of the mixes from the movie.
Not as good as the movie.......2002-03-16
But still a decent mix, incorporting a few of the notable track from the movie. Anyone know what song is playing when when DJ Snaz makes his successful fade?
Rave On!.......2001-09-07
For someone who actually 'attended' a few raves in 1990's San Francisco, I actually thought this movie was great!!!! And the accompanying soundtrack is killer too!

Robert Redford's fable of a cynical, young, white war veteran (Matt Damon) learning the perfect golf swing--and the meanings of life--from a mysterious black caddy (Will Smith) is typically rich in subtexts, from racial discrimination to armchair existential philosophy. As she did for the period dramaThe Cider House Rules, English composer Rachel Portman imbues Vance with an American sense of time and place. Bookended by the bluesy jazz of Fats Waller, Mugsy Spanier, and Duke Ellington, Portman's elegant orchestral score is rich in powerful brass and string-driven melody and emotional nuances. Portman once again displays a strong affinity for the plaintive resolve and emotionally longing colors of Aaron Copland's most familiar works, and there are moments here that subtly evoke passages of that composer's Lincoln Portrait. It's a fine irony of modern film that one of Copland's spiritual heirs and most effective practitioners of his essentially male American musical ethos is a soft-spoken Englishwoman. --Jerry McCulley

A soundtrack as wonderful as the movie!.......2005-08-17
When I first saw the picture, the music was one of the two bigger impacts it had on me (cinematography being the other). I had one of those experiences where as soon as the credits were finished I was already planning on purchasing the soundtrack. Problem is the average CD store did not hold it. Lucky for all of us there is Amazon.com!
The music composed by Rachel Portman is nothing short of wonderful! Very American in its orchestration and has often reminded me of the score to JFK (John Williams) & The Natural (Randy Newman/ironically another Redford film). From the scenes where Damon's on the golf course and the camera performs its classic Hitchcock maneuver, to the humorous driving sound as Theron's character takes on the city councilmen, this score proves to be one that must be cherished by all movie music goers.
This is a soundtrack that can inspire people with imagination and heighten the experience of outdoor activities. I myself have played this score while hiking back home and it has performed beautifully. When I play this in my free time it has allowed me to drift away from troubles and distress.
As for the tracks that aren't Portman's composition, they are equally enjoyable. The sound of Muggsy Spanier, Ellington, & Fats Waller are just pure boogie, woogie, oogie know what I mean? Makes you wanna swing.
It's a good soundtrack, one that I am lucky to have in my horde. If you can get it, I highly recommend it.
Why is this soundtrack so hard to find?.......2004-02-18
It goes without saying that a good score can either brilliantly enhance or possibly downright destroy a movie. With the film "The Legend of Bagger Vance" you have a beautiful story accented by beautiful scenery and beautiful period sets and costumes. Anything less than a beautiful score could lessen the appeal and, ultimately, the certain quality that could make this good movie great. Rachel Portman has developed a reputation for making okay movies unforgettable. Any less of a score could have ruined "The Cider House Rules" or even more so "Chocolat". Ms. Portman's score is a perfect example of how image and sound should come together to create something beautiful. In addition to the evocative and nostalgic opening fanfare-like theme, Ms. Portman welds together at least three other prominent themes, as well as a virtual abundance of recurring motifs. But, unlike her recent score CD for "The Human Stain", this album contains a much more varied mix of music that, most times, leaves the listener simply wanting more, but at the same time feeling totally satisfied. Unfortunately, if this review has successfully whet your appetite for this album, all you have to do now is find a copy for a reasonable amount of money. This soundtrack is highly reccommended, but good luck finding it.
The Legend of Bagger Vance.......2003-02-20
Great soundtrack, very relaxing and emotional. Very pleased with the cd music, but disappointed in what I had to pay for it. Also, the seller represented it as NEW and it was not. It had been resealed!
This soundtrack was worthy of an oscar........2002-11-07
When I saw this film I remember thinking, "what an extraordinary soundtrack" and I immediately went out and got the cd. And now a few years later it almost always is in my cd player. I love, love, love soundtracks and this is a homerun to me. I don't remember what the competititon was for the oscars that year but I wish it would have won. I don't even remember if it got a nomination. If you like Randy Newman's work, Aaron Copeland and maybe Hans Zimmer, you will like this cd. She did a really wonderful job. I wish I knew more about the composer.
This is my favorite CD.......2001-11-04
I purchased this CD to find a music selection for my daughter's skating routine. I had previously purchased "Cider House Rules" soundtrack and thoroughly enjoyed it, so we purchased this after listening to the samples on Amazon.com. This soundtrack has to be the best one I have heard! I watched the movie after I had listened to the CD, and I must say that Rachel Portman's music brings the movie to a whole new emotional level. I, too, wonder why this was not nominated for an Oscar. Rachel Portman has that special gift to communicate through her music. I look forward to purchasing more of her works.

Hard Ass Trance.......2005-05-09
This cd is awesome from beginning to end and provides listeners with Micro's famous style of techno/trance.This is one of the dj's that started the American rave scene and introduced Techno/Trance to the USA.If your planning to hit the road or the club this is the cd to listen to.If you like this album also I recommend "Tech Mix 2.0" (which is almost as good)along with "Tech Mix 5(the best!)_& "Out Through The Input".In fact any of his Tech Mix series cd's are good and well worth the listen. As with every Micro cd...there is great mixing and flowing. There is no other dj like Micro...go pick up this cd now and get hooked!
Very powerful mix but..........2004-09-23
DJ Micro throws out here a very powerful mix. First time I heard it I was driving to an appointment and found my foot pressing the gas pedal to the floor. I don't think many people could dislike the music here. It seems to me to connect with the original reason I got into dance/techno/trance music (Matrix films having much to do with it among others). The only problem I had with it was that I awaited some tremendous ending track to this disc. Something, you know, magical, inspirational, etc. Kinda like how DJ Paul Oakenfold ends his Global Underground : New York disc with Deeper Love - (Symphonic Paradise mix, with BBE) which I think is supperb. Instead the final track is probably the least enjoyable track on the disc that just reminds me of a downward sloping hill. It starts off like the rest of the album but eventually reaches the bottom of the hill where the track just dies.
Good Dark techno yet not fulfilling.......2004-09-21
Well here i am going through all of my techno, trance, house ect.. albums. i scroll across dj micro's 2000 mix. yes this is a great cd for its hard dark tracks but it just doesnt cut it. if you like listening to techno to dance than this is a great cd, if you like listening for more of an artistic view i still prefer Oakenfold. i just wish Oakenfold would play more hard tracks like the ones presented by dj micro in this cd. good to get cd just because of the hard tracks provided. just doesnt progress into anything.
GRRRRRRRRRREAT STUFF.......2004-04-09
Yes! now thats what im talkin about....this mix has got what today's Micro needs....that tech/trance/breaks style.Awesome cd from start to finish....Very highly recommended
If there is one Trance cd to own; this is it........2004-01-07
This is in my opinion THE BEST Micro cd there is, quite possibly the best tech/trance/house album to own. Period. Absolutely no cheese is to be found anywhere, Crystal clear sound, a perfect track selection, and energy surging the entire time kepping your senses glued to the music . The entire album takes you for a ride with enlifting and tense build ups, immaculate mixing, and intense climaxes (and there are many throughout the cd).The one flaw stated and agreed by many is a weak ending with bizarre off key vocals, but the experience before makes up for it a hundred fold. A truly good cd that you can listen all the way through satisfied the etnire time.
I have just begun to write reviews on music but have been listening to techno and more definitively trance for more than half a decade, and have to say that finding good solid cd's is harder and harder to find. This is THE must have.

This star vehicle for Sylvester Stallone may be a remake of the 1971 film starring Michael Caine, but the soundtrack music is clearly from this era. Jellybean Benitez worked as executive producer, and the coterie of trip-hop and techno-dance DJs and stars is noteworthy. From the expert grooves of Manchester duo Mint Royale to Petersburg, Ontario's most popular brothers, Soma Sonic, the waves of sensual ambience flow like lava from a lamp. Expert British remixer Paul Oakenfold (Happy Mondays) teams with programmer Andy Gray for "Descents." Soundtrack perennial Moby contributes the hypnotic "Memory Gospel." Bill Leeb and Delerium are on target with "Enchanted." Jellybean himself gives us a take on "Jingle Bells," which is sandwiched between the Accidentals' choir versions of the Christmas carols "Joy to the World" and "Silent Night." --Rob O'Connor

Talk about a Wise Investment.......2005-02-24
What's there to say about Jazzanova? The Nu-Jazz & broken beat gurus out of Germany, that feature in their own wing of Compost Records titled Jazzanova-Compost - let alone Sonar Kollektiv, and they are some of the most influential musicians in, well, the world IMO. They are well respected and feature great production and originality. The artists they've worked with through the years is stunning. Having said all of that, this is (one) of their remix albums - this one dealing specifically with some of their mixes between 1997-2000. In this one they do the remixing of many artists cuts.
It starts out with the very familiar 4Hero track "We Who Are Not as Others". It has that dropped tone and kicks up int osome beats off the get go. Marshcmellow's also have a cool track titled "Soulpower" with an adequately titled "Jazzanova Straight Dub mix". Other highlight tracks off of disc one were the remake to label mates Truby Trio, with a very interesting take on "Carajillo". UFO and Soul Bossa Trio are also given reworks worthy of a listen. Meanwhile CD2 doesn't slow down and ended up being my favorite. Ursula Rucker has the silky & seductive "Circe" given a quiet and mysterious remix - haunting because of how simple it is. Balanco's "Metti Una Sera A Cena" has a sweet bossa vibe to it - really reminds me of the early days of Schema's Break & Bossa which had... breaks and electronica mixed in, and seemed more creative altogether. Also featured was a great remix by Soul Quality Quartet's "Toda Tersafeira". The cut has a loop to it that hooks you in and admittedly I prefer this remix to the original on their debut album on Irma records titled "Dip".
If you can find this, I'd certainly recommend it. But I don't know about paying $40 for it - but then again when I got this the cd was in several stores I frequented at well below half of that price. Still, you get 20 songs total and none of them are mixed into the other (woo-hoo!). Also be sure not to confuse this with their single disc "Singles 1997-2000" collection, which is available as a very pricey Japanese import. It too is a great cd but really may be of value for collectors. If you dig this, be sure to check out "In Between" and their many other mix projects. You might also be into other Compost artists like Fauna Flash, Truby Trio, Intuit, Beanfield, Wei Chi, Minus-8 (not his last one) and the like. Or... you will probably like Thievery Corporation, Dr Bob Jones, Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge.
Dam Groovy.......2002-07-29
If you don't have this CD and your into this kind of music, you are missing out! This CD is one of my top 10 Favorites.
A Remix Album With a Twist.......2002-07-07
The overwhelming majority of remix albums consist of generic reinterpretations of familiar tunes set to lazy beats and uninspired rhythms. An exception, however, is this remix album from Jazzanova, which compiles the band's greatest work on two discs. The grooves, always rich and multilayred, offer a careful balance of jazz, Latin influences, and a touch of electro beats so as not to scare away even the most conservative jazz gurus. Among the better numbers are Incognito's "Get Into My Groove" and MJ Cole's "Sincere." Whether you want a disc to spice things up at a weekend dinner party or music to relax to on a Sunday afternoon, you'll be pleased with this excellent double-disc set.
Chill music.......2002-06-01
In one word "Smooth". Music that adds atmosphere and class to any occasion
Awesome Nu-Jazz.......2002-05-29
If you're into "chill-out" but with a strong back beet, this comp is for you. THey're influence stems from all kinds of music like jazz, funk, latin, and a smidgen of electronica. The 1st cd is a little better than the 2nd but that is solely preference, I have friends who love the 2nd cd better than the 1st. The cd it wicked chilled out, but has a pretty driving beat so that you never really get boared with it. Everytime I throw a bash and someone new always asks who is this... this is awesome ?!! Definetly buy this comp, with out a doubt the best cd compilation for [the money] I've ever spent :)
