Carla Bozulich is from the Johnette Napolitano school of all-or-nothing honesty, and her band cranks out a dissonant, arty rock sound spiked by Jessy Greene's manic violin. In other words: a treat for the few (including the critics who loved the '95 debut) who've heard it, and a rare opportunity for those who haven't. --Jeff Bateman --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Despite making it through a difficult four-year stretch in which the band temporarily broke up, singer Shirley Manson left her husband, and new technologies made the sleek electro-rock sound of its first three albums feel passé, Garbage resurfaces in rude health on Bleed Like Me. Manson is still kickboxing the air and stomping the glitter under her heels, as she channels Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde on edgy glam-rock anthems like "Run Baby Run" and "Metal Heart." All the while three bookish producers in the background--including Butch Vig, who famously helmed Nirvana's Nevermind--turn up the sleazy machine-like rhythms. Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl sits in on the drums for the menacing "Bad Boyfriend," but it's the confessional title track Bleed Like Me"--part "Walk on the Wild Side," part therapy session for former cutter Manson--that shatters Garbage's image as the ultimate non-stick studio band. "You should see my scars," goes the chorus. And, for once, Manson is actually willing to reveal them. -- Aidin Vaziri

Uh, made a mistake.......2007-05-12
I only liked one song - Bleed Like Me. Oh well, stuff happens.
So Close.......2006-11-12
Yes, Garbage's sound can be so close to a lot of people's heart. Just a ten years career and 4 lovely albums and they broke up. It's a shame, actually. This last album contain some track that really can make you shiver like "It's all over but the crying" and "Happy home"...Ballads that don't talk about easy feelings, there's always a dramatic vein in Garbage songs. Always, it doesn't mater if the song is a romantic ballad or a stunning hard rock song. Maybe is the sadness of life that pass through their music, sometimes it hurts, but can make You feel not alone.
best band ever!!!.......2006-10-19
too bad they broke up, but this album is a tie with version 2.0, shirley manson only gives her best in everyone of her music. she is a truly talented woman...wish the band hadn't broken up though.
The new songs are incredibly wonderful.
a classic.......2006-08-07
I love this album! I see in the discussions someone said you would only like this if you are "bitter and angry"...well, that's not me...and I LOVE THIS ALBUM. Shirley Manson is amazing. Not only is she gorgeous, she is a fabulous singer, and a great, intelligent writer. Although I don't agree with all the philosophies she puts into her songs(though yes, I'm anti-war and think she articulated in "Boys Wanna Fight" what's going on really well, I don't think a "free love" revolution will solve anything on personal or political levels..."Sex is not the Enemy" is a great song music-wise though...end tangent), I think she's a great example for women in many ways. We're not all waiting for a man to come along and "make it all better." We're not all demure. Shirley's lyrics express that in a society that does not accept it. Go Shirley.
I have heard people complain that this album is more straight-up rock n'roll and less "electronic" than 2.0, but that is the hallmark of a great band. The Beatles had "Sgt. Pepper" as well as "Let it Be". Led Zeppelin did "Black Dog" as well as "Tangerine." Great bands have range.
Garbage is the only band I love that came out of the 90's. And they're still rockin' in the 2000's. Listening to this album has helped me alot through some recent times. There are some very uplifting songs, as well as some songs that are so deep, true, and sad that they make me cry. Beautifully written.
I saw Garbage in concert in Spring '05. Shirley Manson is even more jaw-droppingly captivating in person. Rock on, Garbage! And thank you for all the great music.
Garbage Bleeds.......2006-07-24
Shirley Manson and her rock band return with a good rocker album. Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl even makes a guest performance for the track "Bad Boyfriend". BLEED LIKE ME is a typical rock album. The guitars, bass, and drums are heavy and very rhythmic oriented with a lot of power chords. The guitars and bass also perform interesting counterpoint, but their distortion loose the melodic feel to their performance. Manson once again, gives a great performance in a rock style, but she also has some interesting melody lines as well. The contour to this record is well formed. Not all of the songs are a loud and heavy rock sound, some are quiet and have great harmonic progressions to them. The addition of keyboards and strings help in this aspect of the album. BLEED LIKE ME is interesting, and should be heard in its entirity.
Enchanced CD features contain the music video for "Why Do You Love Me".
Stand out tracks include:
"Metal Heart"
"Sex Is Not the Enemy"
"Boys Wanna Fight"
'Why Don't You Come Over"
"Happy Home"

Not My Style.......2007-05-11
This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!
Rockin' Western Collection.......2006-08-28
For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.
Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16
This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.
Western Music.......2005-07-29
I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."
A great follow-up.......2003-08-29
This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

Nice Soundtrack.......2007-02-16
Much better than the average soundtrack from the period, many of the tracks are original from the movie (including 'Raindrops', 'South American Adventure' and 'New York'), some fillers are included but otherwise quite faithful to the original movie.
Great Memories.......2006-05-03
I first saw the movie at a med-evac hospital overseas while caring for Vietnam-wounded Marines, and I fell in love with the soundtrack then and there. As soon as I was returned to the States (or as we used to call it "The World") I bought the album and played it until the grooves wore out. Then came the 8 track, the cassette, and now the CD. Time marches on.
Burt Bacharach is pure genius, and this soundtrack is one of his more stellar efforts. My personal favorites are "Not Goin' Home Anymore", a great tune, and "South American Getaway", an alternating happy-go-lucky and melancholy tune. Of course, three versions of "Raindrops" is a good thing to have anytime.
All in all, a great trip down memory lane and a great example of the genius that is Bacharach.
My Favorite Album / CD.......2005-08-10
This is without a second thought my favorite CD. I had the album. (still around here somewhere) This is excellent music bumper to bumper. Not a bad note in the entire track.
A Classic Film Score.......2003-05-06
This sountrack is just as fresh today in 2003 as when it was released on L.P. so many years ago. Some of Burt Bacharach's Best Work. You'll notice "South American Getaway" has been recently been used on SBC commercials.
3 Versions Keep Falling On My Head.......2002-10-18
A remarkably good album for only 9 songs. The songs span several different styles: pop ("Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head"), '60ish scatting ("South American Getaway"), circus music ("On A Bicycle Built For Joy"), old-fashioned brass band ("Old Fun City"), moody harmonica ("Not Goin' Home Anymore"). There are 3 versions of "Raindrops..." here under different song titles. One of these versions (the instrumental one) never appeared in the movie, but the music in the movie's intro (a guitar version of "Not Goin' Home Anymore") doesn't appear on the album. ... B.J.'s voice is hoarse in "On A Bicycle Built For Joy" but surprisingly that somehow makes it sound even better! It would also be great if, like on the M*A*S*H film soundtrack, they added bits of the very cute dialog from the film.

Time to grow up........2006-07-20
I'm a huge fan of Butch Walker. I think he's a major talent and a true rock star. However, it's time to get over the trite, teeny bopper lyrics. Melodies and guitars are good (thats the 2 stars) but come on, Butch, you're a grown up with a cool, fun edge...act and write like it. We're not on the playground anymore.
Excellent album.......2006-07-15
This could have very well been the next Marvelous 3 album. Continuing stong off of the Ready sex go LP from Marvelous 3, Butch Walker broke out on his own with this 2002 release. This album kicks off hard with My Way and rolls on from there. In isn't until his 2004 release that Butch Walker did something really different from the Marvelous 3 music, and his new album this year,is the next evolution of his music. SO if you are a Marvelous 3 fan looking at this album for the first time, then you will love this. Caution to his 2004 release Letters, although As a Butch Walker fan it is a great album onto itself. THe newest release I still have to get a good feel for, but it is a mix of his solo sounds so far. Also, stop by and check out "injected-burn it back", an album produced by Butch Walker, as well as the last 2 Bowling for soup albums "drunk enough to dance" and "a hangover you don't deserve".
rock music with a punk rock attitude!.......2005-10-14
i love this album, butch walker is a genuis! treat yourself to a suprise and buy this album, you'll be pleasently suprised! My favorites songs on the album are my way and suburbia, but the whole album is kick-ass.
Butch Walker is a god........2005-06-10
This CD is amazing. Every song on it deserves to be there; definitley no "filler" for this album. It starts off with several great rock tracks, and ends with really sweet, beautiful ballads. Sandwiched between those two are a few darker, depressing tracks (the weak point of the album, IMO) such as Sober and Into the Black. Overall, it is a great effort..the lyrics are genius and the melodies catchy & memorable.
This is a must for rock fans.......2004-10-21
Hi,
I don't usually write reviews but as Butch is still relatively unknown to the masses, I thought it couldn't hurt.
I was a Marvelous 3 fan and was surprised and dissapointed when they broke up without reaching their potential.
When I picked up 'Left of Self Centered', I wasnt sure what to expect. Would it follow the same M3 formula or would it be something entirely different. It's safe to say that it's a bit of both and blows the M3 Cds away. Clever lyrics, great melodies and nice production. The songwriting is far more mature and less generic than what he did with M3. If you're someone who just wants a good rock CD by a great talent than look no further. Every song could have been a single and it's unfortuante that it didnt get more notice. Songs like Into the Black and Get Down have great intensity and emotion that's hard to find these days. Alicia Amnesia and Diary of a San Fernando Sexx star are great examples of fun, sing out loud anthems. The real treasures of 'Left of Self Centered' come from the ballads, If and Take Tommorow. The dynamics of these songs are great and trully beautiful.
In one word I would describe 'Left of Self Centered' as fun. I can't recommend it enough.

What's a woebegone wall-crawler to do? Arachnid-powered superteen Peter Parker's all-too-human foibles are never far from the heart of director Sam Raimi's second installment of the Spider-Man saga, giving it an emotional resonance that sets it smartly apart from its summer blockbuster competition. But while Raimi and star Toby McGuire help emotionally ground the film, its stunning CGI effects -- and this robust, aggressive orchestral score by Danny Elfman -- insure we never forget this is no mere soap opera. The composer returns with a vengeance to the larger-than-life, crowd-pleasing sensibility of his acclaimed work on Batman and its sequel, though he occasionally seasons it with sparing dashes of the post-modern flirtations of his Hulk score. Elfman conjures his formula masterfully, bookending a suitably moody, rhythmically anxious new theme for Dr. Octopus with a brassy reprise of villainy-past on "The Goblin Returns." Though leavened by more emotionally bright passages, it's a score largely dominated by the dark, brooding comic book melodramatics that are the favorite of so many Elfman acolytes. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
This is One of Elfman's Best Scores!!!!.......2007-05-09
I really love this cd. ive always wanted to hear the main title from the movie and when i got this cd i was really happy and when i heard it i felt like i was watching the movie again. Elfman is one of my favorite and best composers since John Williams!!! This is a MUST have!!!!
Not the best soundtrack I've heard.......2007-03-09
I own a lot of soundtracks and this is not one of the best. The music is great when the movie is playing but loses something on its own.
Missing some music pieces.......2006-10-14
I decided to buy this CD after wanting a piece played in Spider-Man 2 SO badly. I was furious when I listened to this and didn't find it anywhere. The piece I was looking for was the piano piece during the scene when Peter hugs Aunt May when she's packing. You'd think it would be in 'Ant May Packs' but it's not. It is also missing some other great pieces from the movie. A bit of a let down...
A well Motion Picture Score........2006-02-10
This Orignal Motion Picture score was great becuase of the music that Danny Elfman used on this Cd. I love #1"Main Titles",#2,and I love the Doc Ock theme. I really wish that they would of put in the Pizza Delivery when Peter delivers the pizza's. And when Doc Ock puts his arms up for the first time. But I love this motion picture score soundtrack. It's a great score to listin to. I highly recommend it! And it's a 48 minute soundtrack and the music in the film wasn't all in the soundtrack. But Danny Elfman did an awesome job with this Orignal Motion Picture Score for Spider-Man 2!
great buy .......2006-01-20
this cd is a great buy for spider-man fans because it includes most of the music score but not all. my favorite tracks are track #1 whick the title theme, track #7 which is titled the mugging/peters turmoil peters turmoil is the first 3 minuets and is also the theme when peter says I'm spider-man no more, I also like track #9 which is titled hes back, track #14 which is titled at long last love, and finnaly the classic but annoyingly catchy track #15 which is raindrops keep fallin on my head. other themes on this cd are train/appreciation which is track #10. also there is the track titled the goblins returns which includes a little of the green goblin theme.

Butch Walker....What Can You Say?.......2007-05-24
Letters is tied for my top favorite albums of all time. I haven't stopped listening to this album since I bought it. I'm a Longtime Butch Walker fan and in my opinion this is his most solid album. As a fan of the 'older' music this album was my gateway into enjoying more contemporary music. Listen to Letters and allow your life to be changed.
Letters is an Emotional Gem.......2007-03-15
Butch Walker is a pop-rock genius and an excellent producer. Letters is his second solo album, following the break-up of his band the Marvelous 3. After attending one of his shows in Nashville with some of my friends who were huge fans of his, I bought Letters because I was so incredibly impressed by his performance. I was not disappointed either. Actually, this album is what helped lead me into becoming a devoted fan of all of his music.
Letters is an emotional masterpiece. It takes you on a ride from extreme emotional highs to incredible lows. Songs like "Lights Out" will pump you up and make you want to go out and party, while songs like "Joan" and "Thank-You" note will make you want to cry your eyes out. The string arrangements in "Joan" are absolutely breath-taking. My personal favorite song on the album (and in general one of my favorite songs ever) is the power rock ballad "Best Thing You Never Had" because it is basically a "Screw You!" song for anyone that has ever made you feel worthless.
One of my favorite things about Butch Walker is his lyrics. In Letters he manages to put every feeling into words because he's not afraid of sounding cheesy or being too forward. His lyrics are very creative and bold, and that's what, in my opinion, makes him better than many other songwriters out there.
I know people who play and listen to some of the heaviest rock music out there, yet they still love Butch Walker because of his excellent musicianship. If you appreciate good music, then you definitely need to add Letters to your CD collection.
Best band you never heard of..........2007-03-08
I found this guy Butch through a friend, and I have loved his music ever since! He rocks and his songs make you feel something.
Why would anyone rate Butch Walker at 4.5 stars?.......2006-09-21
Yes, Siree! Why would anyone indeed? Needless to say I got burned again! Perhaps his fan club are the ones writing the reviews, but what happened to the law of averages? 4.5 stars? That is almost a perfect listen, my kind and worthy colleagues! That is an above average rating, cremme of the cremme, top dog, best of the best! To give Butch Walker such a high rating is like saying that this guy compares to the big players of all times. And what happens when he really puts out a great album, does he go way past 5 stars to 8.5? No, he doesn't. 5 stars is the limit. Not everyone deserves 5 stars because if they did this would be a perfect state, where every artist is equal or better than the next. Butch Walker's "Letters" sucks to be a 4.5 star, it does not merit such a high rating. Too great of a compliment. One or two songs are okey, nice to listen to but this is no outstanding effort. No disrespect intended to his die hard and high rating fans, but please get a hold of yourselves or more innocent bystanders are going to believe the hype and then what? Burned! Out of good american dollars. All these trial and error baloney is getting old and urge you my dear and most valued consumers: Be fair at all times but do not tell me Butch Walker's "Letters" is a 4.5. Yes, I bought it but probably won't listen all that much to it. I am going to smoke a fatty and play something melodic and sad like the "Arcade Fire" and get over my loss. 3 stars no more for Mr. Butch Walker's "Letters". 4.5 stars? Who are you kidding? (obviously me!) Ciau Bambinos!
No One Better Than Butch!.......2006-09-15
My experience is not unusual: Saw Butch open for Avril Lavigne's BONEZ tour in 2004, became an instant fan and it's only become more intense. I bought this CD on the night of the Avril concert, and have listened to it pretty much 3 or 4 times a week, without exception. He did spoil me for Avril, though. I couldn't enjoy her set after seeing his, and I'm not easily won over.
If you haven't heard his stuff, then do it now. You won't be sorry. (his new album, "The Rise and Fall of Butch Walker and The Let's Go Out Tonights" is another huge favorite!)

Delightful.......2006-12-31
I've bought other alubums of mandolin and guitar and enjoyed them, but this is my favorite. All the selections are enjoyable.
The blend and balance between Baldassari's mandolin and Mock's guitar are the best I've ever heard on any recording of mandolin and guitar recordings.
I wasn't sure how a bluegrass mandolin player would do on classical pieces, but Baldassari is more than equal to the task in my opinion. He chose to play his Gibson F-5 and F-5C mandolins and could not have made a better choice. He produces the best tone I've ever heard from any mandolin; full, rich and balanced. Any limitations inherent in the mandolin are not to be heard; nothing tinny, nothing hollow, just pure golden tone.
John Mock's guitar playing blends seamlessly with Baldassari's mandolin.
I'm a cassual listener to classical music. I enjoy what I enjoy, but I'm not tutored or schooled. All I know is that I like what I like. This is good stuff.

Beautiful and Timeless.......2007-03-08
Too often instrumental music by skilled musicians is strong on musicianship at he expense of poetry. This release is rich in both, with beautiful aural landscapes portraying a range of thought and emotion. This version of Wayfaring Stranger reaches a desolation few vocalists have ever found, and Pretty Saro sounds like the wind through cenuries. Much glee, warmth, and romp throughout, with Wolves-A-Howling a personal favorite. An echo from the past, yet as immediate as your heartbeat today. Highly recommended.
Old Time Poetry in Motion.......2006-01-15
David Schnaufer, a national dulcimer champion brought the dulcimer to the Nashville scene. Dulcimer means "sweet sound" and it's never sounded sweeter than when played by David Schnaufer. Combine that with Bruce Baldassari and you've got a winning combination. Bruce can play the mandolin like no other. I had the opportunity to hear these two together in concert, and I've never heard such a wonderful sound as the dulcimer and mandolin played together by these two masters. This may be heavenly music at it's best. It sure would have the angels singing, clapping, and stomping their feet.

The title comes courtesy of Leo Tolstoy. The vocals are Lone Star Bob Dylan, made grittier by an East Texas wind. And the style is Woody Guthrie by way of Robert "Masters of War" Zimmerman. That said, ex-Flatlander Hancock brings unassailable conviction to this collection of original protest songs, which draw on Biblical references, activist literature, and Phil Ochs-like humanity to drive a stake through the heart of Hancock's fellow Texan in the White House. "They never found a single weapon of mass destruction," he needles in "The Devil in Us All," "but they all smell oil/got to get it into production." Hancock plays nine instruments here, and calls on old bandmates Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore for his chorus of witnesses. Still, at times, as on "Old Man, Old Man," a monologue to his maker, Hancock-as-producer needs a bit of help--his keyboards are too cheesy to rattle God's stained-glass windows, and much of this has a DIY, on-the-cheap tone. Can you really plug an electric guitar into your truck's cigarette lighter? --Alanna Nash
Album Description
Butch Hancock is a founding member of The Flatlanders, with appearances on Letterman and Imus In The Morning. He's a member of the Buddy Holly Walk of Fame and the Texas Music Hall of Fame.
Butch Hancock's self-produced "War and Peace", his first solo CD in almost 9 years, meets face to face with the mountains of lies that appear to be rising higher and higher all around us and all inside us, and reminds us: the times they are STILL a'changin'.
From the riveting acapella opener, a call-for-peace/prayer/warning/urge-to-compassion, to the final cut, a 7-minute plus get-out-the-vote anthem which would set Woody Guthrie, Willie Dixon and Mississippi John Hurt dancing proudly in their graves, Hancock, the impeccable lyricist, pulls no metaphorical punches as he questions all kinds of authority: overt, covert, exterior, interior, imagined, and unimagined.
His voice, still warm and scratchy after all these years, blends with his own harmonies and those of his long time running buddies, Fellow Flatlanders Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, who join Butch with harmonies on "The Master Game" and "Cast the Devils Out". Butch's new melodies are as memorable as the Guthrie-ish "borrowings" of melodies on "Cast the Devils Out" and "Great Election Day", and on "Toast" he echoes the dreamlike would-be spiritual perceptions we could all lay claim to on any given late-night drinking occasion. What's more, it's done to the accompaniment of old timey banjo and cathedral organ! Of the relentlessly rocking "Old Man, Old Man," Austin guitarist Charlie Sexton was heard to exclaim, "Man, that's so 60's ...it's like ...The Doors! I love it!" Billy Joe Shaver's favorite is "When the Good and the Bad Get Ugly," and Butch dedicates "Road Map for the Blues" to the late Clifford Antone who made him play it repeatedly in the backstage of Antone's blues club in Austin.
Butch plays over a dozen instruments on this finely mixed cd (mixed by the amazing Chet Himes). And though he claims that the only other picker (Flatlander guitarist Rob Gjersoe) "adds the real touch of class" to the arrangements, a single listening to these songs reveals surprises and a continuity that...calls for many repeats!!!
Customer Reviews:
All arounf good album.......2007-03-11
The music is pleasing and the lyrics are right on (or at least make you think). What more can you ask?
OK. It was unfair to just drop the above review, as it is not in the least bit helpful to someone looking for an album they can enjoy on both a musical and a social level, or for those who would prefer to keep their heads in the sand. So, here goes:
War and Peace is a rousing celebration of the progressive world view. If you think George Bush is doing a good job and we should be sacrificing our children and the Iraqi children so that he Dubya can feel like a man, and that 9/11 justified turning America into Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany; You will not like this album. But, if you believe in the core American values of freedom, fairness, justice and mercy; you will love the lyrics. If you think that good music is categorized by insane screaming and music played too loud to understand the words, or alternately by a singer that sounds like they have a severe sinus infection, or is trying to get you in bed ala Larry the Lounge Lizard, then this isn't your type of music. But if you like highly skilled musicians and clear singing, in a wide range of styles then you will enjoy this album.
Is that better?
Compelling as ever!.......2007-02-18
I have been listening to Butch Hancock's music for many many years now and it is never short of superb. The new album is no exception! This time he turns his exceptional ability with words on to the state of the world & to the politics of conflict. His songs tell it like it is & leave you in no doubt of his opinions but they do so with humor and without the bitterness and threat that can often leave an artist appearing no better than those they would criticize, If you like Bob Dylan or Dan Bern's way with words and tune then do explore Butch Hancock's extensive back catalog. Butch is also a talented painter & photographer (amongst many other things!) & has very intentionally remained outside the corporate music industry for all his days - had he chosen to join it then believe me everybody would know his name & work. Explore a unique storytelling talent - you will not be disappointed!
Gorgeous, deep, and lasting.......2007-02-09
This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time, and it gets better with every listen. The opening track, "Give Them Water," is an a capella anthem I could live by. Other standout tracks are "When the Good and the Bad Get Ugly" and "Road Map for the Blues." Hancock's expressive voice shines a few rays of light into the depressing reality of life in post-2001 America.
Don't say it unless you've something to say..........2007-01-21
Butch is a fine original Texas songwriter from the Great High Plains but this collection is an example of when songwriters think they have something to say about politics but truly don't. Typical clever lyrics as with all Hancock recordings but the message is more worn out and tired than war itself. Artists would do well to have depth of knowledge on their subjects, maybe that's why the rule: write about that which you know. In this CD Butch shows his political and social thoughts are about deep as the rivers flowing around Lubbock.
War and Peace.......2007-01-10
As a fan of Buth and his song contributions to the Flatlanders, I was disappointed to find many of the songs to be unsubtle, strident polemics against war or the obstacles to peace. The melodies were not memorable. It is in sharp contrast to Neil Youngs most recent release dealing with the same topic.
