In 1992, we added DW-Radio to the airwaves to provide up-to-the-date information to statewide visitors on where to go and what to do anytime of year. Through our travels we have met some incredible people, all of whom contribute to the beauty and uniqueness of our homeland. Many of these people are musicians; some well known, others not, but all, incredibly gifted souls with “voices” that need to be heard. We are proud to present these artists on Discover Wisconsin Music, an eclectic mix of styles and personalities, vocals and instruments. Open your ears to DW-Music: Art-of-the-State. This new CD of Wisconsin musical artists offers a wide variety of musical styles ranging from jazz to folk, classic to a capella, celtic to acoustic. The listener gets a real sense of the state when listening to artists such as folk sensation Alice Peacock, the unique vocal sytlings of the New Glarus Yodel Club and jazz great Bobby Lewis recording live at Andy's Jazz Club in Chicago. A real treat is the inclusion of "Los Caballeros" performed by the Milwaukee Madolin Orchestra, the oldest organization of its kind in Ameria. This song is one of those forgotten works of popular American music from the early 20th Century. The group's live rendition is mesmerizing. Another favorite is The Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra's "Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem" under the sure direction of award-winning Robert Tomaro. For nearly fifty years, this group has awed audiences gathering at the state's oldest institution of higher education, Beloit College. What makes this collection truly special is that most of the selections have been recorded lives in their original settings across Wisconsin whether at at church in Bayfield on Lake Superior or at a chapel in the rollings hills of New Glarus. Whether you are from Wisconsin, love this state or know nothing about its geography or history, you will love this CD and certainly come out of listening to it with a new appreciation for the unparelleled splendor of regional artists. Sure proof in this lies in the fact that hearing this music for myself inspired me to learn more about the artists, their songs and settings.
