About the Artist
The Torpedoes first formed in the late '70's. During 80, 81 and 82 they earned a reputation for manic live performances of all original music throughout the Midwest. They released the watershed EP "Gifts and Ammo" in early 82 and then, of course, promptly disbanded.

They reformed to begin work on "0 dbm" in early 99. There are no plans to disband at this time.

Performers
Jerry Scott and Mike Morris, with a little help from their alter egos.

Album Description
An eclectic collection of tunes with influences ranging from the Stones circa '69 to Ry Cooder, Neil Young, the Beatles circa '67 and many more.

4 out of 5 stars Torpedoes -The triumph of two Indiana underdogs.......2000-09-23

Mike Morris and Jerry Scott of the Torpedoes are a couple of wise guys from a dot on the map in mid-north Indiana who have been wandering in the wilderness of do-it-yourself rock for more than twenty years. Catching them in a bar band, or just in a bar, has become an increasingly rare pleasure.

It's now obvious that they've not wasted their time, but have holed up in their home studio, with their fat record collection for inspiration and cranked out a fabulous gem of a rock record. The Torpedoes on O dbm sound off like a rootsy, energetic storyteller with a rock solid heart - think of Warren Zevon or John Hiatt. And solid is also the word to describe the muscular arrangements these two multi-instumentalists have concocted. Everything's in its place to pound out these twelve tasty tunes. It opens with "Love Don't" which sets the upbeat "been around the block" tone you find in many of the songs. On TN Williams they name drop the playwright and his contribution to boozeology. By the fourth track you find them making a pithy statement on race relations. This is followed by "I Buried Paul" which apparently lays to rest a thirty year- old rock-n-roll controversy. On the second half of the disc they focus on the war of the sexes: "We've been tradin' fire like this is the Lower East Side, what's your point? there's no where to hide," on "Your Point?" Sometimes they wear their influences on their sleeve; the way Tom Petty is channeled on "Melted" But nothing on this disc is derivitive, these guys are too savvy for that.

This is a great disc. It like having a buddy tug on your coat in your favorite bar to share a wise crack or a cautionary tale of love. The next round is on me.
