The Kinsey Sicks revel in being tastless, tacky, and crude, and the Beauty Shop Quartet surpassed all expectations in this one. Some (OK, all) of this stuff would be really offensive if it weren't so darn side-splitting funny. I have all of their CD's and saw them in concert so trust me when I tell you that I know high class trash when I hear it, and this is IT. You go, girls.

Drag Queens singing "Christmas Carols and Other Jewish Music" with their own naughty lyrics. If this is your idea of travesty, move on. If travesty is your idea of comedy, you will enjoy this cd. The humor and the music-making are a bit uneven, but when these queens are on, they sparkle and glitter with the best. If the title "God Bless Ye Femmy Lesbians" makes you laugh out loud, buy this now. Funny, funny, funny!

Four highly professional men get together in drag at a Bette Midler concert and discover that they can sing. This is the second recording from San Francisco's The Kinsey Sicks, who mix camp, raunchy humor, biting satire, and genuine feeling with some of the best acappella singing you've ever heard. Their take on the classic "I Will Follow Him" .... has a musical sophistication far beyond the original. Other standouts include "Titanic: Why Does Celine Go On?", "Where the Goys Are" (where Rachel longs for a Gentile boy with "Blond hair that glows/a tiny nose/a strangely quiet family..."), and the lovely, elegaic "I Wish You Peace," dedicated to original member Jerry Friedman.

There is no way this CD could ever be as good as their live shows, though the snippets of live material at the end of the last (unmentionalbe) song show that they're great ad-libbers are well. Still, it's well worth purchasing if you like great humor and great singing. Highly recommended (and catch them off-Broadway this year!).

    I love everything about this cd except the x-plicit lyrics. Here is a brief description of the songs:

    Tatu - 3 Stars. My least favorite song on the cd but still good.
    Ski-Ming - 4 Stars. Good song. Not her best but extrmely dark.
    Oil+Water - 5 Stars. You can totally get in her head and relate to how she felt. All of us remember one point where we fell in love to only find a broken heart.
    Bruises- 5 Stars. Very deep, very dark. Feeling love at the same time as feeling hate...
    Siren - 5 Stars. Top two songs. We've all been there- In love with the person who could hurt us most. The music is almost electronic, but it is still really great.
    Hell+Bliss - 5 Stars. My favorite song not only on this album but in general. Light and deep at the same time, different from anything else on the album. Acoustic, symphony, Jazzish vocals- I can't explain it. Yes, actually I can: AMAZING!

    This album is dark, deep, meaningful, and beautiful. I couldn't live without it.

    This is an amazingly honest CD from Majandra who is probably best known right now as Maria on Roswell, but will be a bigger music star than TV star if she continues to produce such honesty and clarity in her music.
    Her voice is beautiful and har lyrics are raw and charged with emotion.
    Grab this one if you can find it! It is worth the money!

    I have always been a fan of Majandra's and her music is very different and fresh. The lyrics make you think back to a relationship or a time in your life where you just needed to hear music that you can relate your mood to. This is a very edgy c.d. and I am so looking forward to the next. Ms. Delfino is a very talented actress and singer/songwriter.

    I've always been a fan of Mo (Majandra) right from Zeus and Roxanne, but Roswell bought her music to my attention. Right from "Blind Date" all the way through I found her voice captivating.

    When I borrowed The Sicks from a friend, I found that same captivation in it. I listened to it over and over again, the lyrics sticking with me. The emotion, the words, were so raw, so real, they described exactly what I was going through at the time. Finally I found an artist I could relate to. 4 years later her music still captures me, invoking images in my mind.

    I wont compare her to Bjork or Portishead, because she's not them. They are all different in their own ways. But they were a big influence in her life, and music. And because of that, I listen to them as well.

    So if you're a big fan of either of them, don't be fooled when people say "Majandra's just like them!" She's not, she's individual as are they. Remember that the only reason they come up when Majandra's music is mentioned is because of their influence.

    Majandra's The Sicks is totally Sick!

    In the past, Majandra has talked about the difficulties of getting a song recorded without "phat house beats", but she's gone all the way and produced The Sicks exactly as she wanted it, resulting in the fascinating record we now have. Most of the songs on the album are quite dark, involving abusive relationships, manipulation, psychological games and so on. But Majandra's dark emotion is the perfect beginning for excellent music! She has a great voice and writes the most intriguing lyrics I've heard in a long while.
