LAME!!!!.......2004-03-30
What the hell happened to music? How these no talent fools are popular should be a Nova episode. This guy has to be THE worst singer ever. He sounds like an American Idol throwaway. PEOPLE, this is not good music, don't be brainwashed by these MTV babies. Sugar Ray, Go Away!!!!!!!!!!!
Re-Invented.......2003-11-08
Madonna reinvents her music and image all the time, and few people give her a lot of static about it. Sugar Ray does it and they lose 'fans'. Welcome to the REAL music world, if you constantly do the same thing with different words, you'll get old fast, look at Boyzone.
This album is completely different that "Lemonade & Brownies" and "Floored". Sugar Ray is much mellower. The heavy rock guitar work is replaced with Mark McGrath's acoustic guitar.
I really think that album marked in a turning point in the guys' lives, particularly Stan Frazier's. His mother died and the album is dedicated to her.
Hearing "Every Morning" on the radio is what originally prompted me to buy this. I listened to it over and over again. Then "Someday" and "Falls Apart" were in the radio line-up. I listened to them all the time. Finally, I put the CD in and just pushed play. When I listened to it, I 'discovered' "Ode To The Lonely Heart," which really describes the feelings you have after a relationship ends.

SEXIEST COVER ART EVER !!!!!!.......2006-11-09
I rate this cd on its artwork (the photo of that extremely sexy chic). I wanna stick my **** right in her.
The way they were........2006-08-23
This is the album that got me into Sugar Ray. I bought this album way before "Fly" came out. I was into the heavy punk hard-core guitar. This album is awesome if you like heavier stuff and is one of my favorite. It isn't a big seller because of the wussed out songs that the mainstream liked of them and the expectation of that is the way they roll. Speaking of expectations. I saw them live when they first came out on the Floored tour. All these non-metal and non-mosh pitters were expecting the happy band that most of Floored shows. I thought it was funny when they opened the concert with "Mic Stealer" from this album and they all backed up and had looks of confusion on their faces. I think after their initial shock they realized that this is the good Sugar Ray and rocked out. Get this album! Most every song will make your head bob.
The Good Old Days, How Come This Seems New?.......2006-07-17
I have always loved this band, "Fly was the song that got me into them, but when i bought this with "floored" I was so happy that everything else was pretty much hard rock. When 14:59 came out, I was happy with it, but i still missed the hard rock/metal outfit. I miss this band, because they havent put out a strong album since S/T 5 years ago. Bottom Line, Buy it. And why is everyone so surprised about this, I knew it from the beginning, thats why i loved this band! so buy it and check out what used to be...
People, this cd is insane!.......2005-12-26
I've actually known about their "black sheep" album, L&B for awhile now but was never really too motivated to check it out
until recently. The catalyst for me buying it was mainly hearing other people say, "they used to be a metal band" and being the diehard metalhead I am it intrigued me enough to actually interrupt my metal cd purshasing bonanza to buy this.
The results? Well I was pretty damn pleased! Especially with the song Mean Machine which is indeed the highlight of this funky off-beat album with it's amusing lyrics and catchy music. Mark McGrath sounds awesome on this album, he yells, speaks in funny voices it's awesome, he really mixes it up here. THEY EVEN CURSE! I know cursing hasn't been a big deal since middle school but when Sugar Ray does it then it is. I mean imagine if you found out N'Stink and the like starting cursing and going crazy, it would be a tad shocking don't you think? What's also cool about this album is that it seems to blend some funk, rap, hard rock, and a little bit of humor. Yes, it even has a skit... but don't worry it's not like the asinine skits that take up half of modern rap cds disc space (they're bad enough with the music alone) but a damn good one with music in the background to boot! I won't ruin it by telling ya what it is, buy the cd and find out yourself!
I have to be honest that I've always liked Sugar Ray, yes even their soft stuff. That's probably especially shocking to my fellow metalheads out there (keep in mind that's coming from a guy who listens to Slayer, Pantera, etc most of the time) but it's true. What can I say, it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Now I will do what others have done, show my friends the craziness that is old school Sugar Ray! By the way, yes I recommend this to basically everyone, I mean everyone at least likes some rock right? Anyone who doesn't like any rock is obviously inhuman and doesn't matter.
What happened to Sugar Ray?.......2005-08-03
I never really cared much for Sugar Ray. I remember getting 14:59 as a present a few years ago, and I wasn't too interested in most of the tracks. But then again, that's because most of the tracks were the annoying, cheesy teenybopper drama movie-esque acoustic pop filler. Although I must admit I enjoyed Someday, for the most part the only tracks on the CD I enjoyed were the songs that were more influenced by either funk-metal or heavy alternative rock (with all due respect to the open-minded musical variety on the album that I admired). Thus, I would usually skip to the songs Personal Space Invader, Aim for Me, Burning Dog and Glory. On rare occassion I'd listen to the track Someday, but I was very conservative about listening to the song, because at the time it would be played so many times on the radio. For the most part, I'd find myself popping in 14:59 on occassion to this day just to listen to those specific tracks, and it still sits on my shelf to this day.
Well, one night I was with a friend and I popped in 14:59 and skipped to Personal Space Invader. While we were listening intently, my friend said "That reminds me, I just found out something really awesome about this band." I asked what it was, and he told me "I know this may sound weird, but Sugar Ray actually used to be a heavy metal band." Then he told me about Lemonade and Brownies. So I finally bought it and popped it into my CD drive.
I was extremely blown away! Not a single track on the album was intolerable (well, the actual music tracks anyway). Nice, basic, crunching, straight from the soul grunge/metal aggression.
Just the other day I invited a different friend over, and we decided we'd want to listen to some music. So I showed him this album. He laughed upon first seeing it, saying "Sugar Ray? Ha! This cover looks just like what you might find on some American female pop singer's album." He only looked at me like I was a dolt when I told him the whole early Sugar Ray story.
So I popped the CD in and had him listen to it. BOY, did that make a believer out of him!
What puzzles me to this very day is why Sugar Ray don't ever produce albums like this anymore. I'd have to disagree with what someone here said, that this can't compare to their other albums and that they should have abandoned this awesome sound. I suppose I won't get into why I think their progression to other types of sound blew, but come on Sugar Ray, look at your fanbase now. None of these blowhard teenybopper valley dopes you have now would have DARED have anything to with the raw power of old school Sugar Ray.

A letdown after their previous efforts ... .......2006-08-30
I've enjoyed both "sides" of Sugar Ray, the breezy Fly / Every Morning side and harder-edged RPM side. I though Floored was great, and 14:59 softer overall but still great. However, this self-titled album is just not that interesting. Only the hit When It's Over caught my attention, and the rest of the songs just feel like mushy top-40 radio crap. (Of course Fly was top-40, but I never considered it crap.) There is little of the edge, humor, or fun of previous Sugar Ray CDs on this release.
If you have the two popular albums already, I would suggest that Lemonade and Brownies is a much more interesting and fun (and LOUDER and raunchier) CD than this one.
Sugar Ray; Summer of '01. 3 1/2 stars........2006-06-09
Not to say that this cd is bad because it isn't. When thinking of this cd I just think slightly above average.
1. Answer the Phone 7.5/10
This track is bouncy. You can bob your head to it a little so that's nice. But it never really goes anywhere. Good but nothing great.
2. When It's Over 8/10
Now this is the track that made me wanna buy this cd way back in 2001. Here it is, 2006 and I finally get to it! Anyway, I like the guitar and the pop tone it has. The lyrics do the trick but there's nothing deep here. Remember the video?!
3. Under the Sun 7.5/10
The cd heads into a slightly different direction with this track. Guitar is a bit heavier bringing in a rockier edge. Again, lyrics aren't much BUT Mark reminisces a bit with his lyrics mentioning Run DMC and the beach. It still has a pop feel though.
4. Satellites 7/10
This has a bit of a latin flair to it. The chorus is noisy almost overshadowing the lyrics. But so far, so good. As it continues this song seems a bit filler come to think of it. Sorry, but it really wasn't anything special. The ending's nice though.
5. Waiting 7/10
The pop edge has gone now. Mark goes on about some chick he's kept waiting. But the line: She looked at me and softly said, "I'm gonna love you 'til the day I die." is neat. It makes me think about all the possibilities with the people I'll meet in college. But I get off track. Besides that line, the song goes nowhere.
6. Ours 8/10
"She was your woman but she was my girl." This line is the start and repeats later on a couple of times. The feel of the music is good. "Shut the door, baby. Don't say a word. Talk about flashback to 14:59! This song has a real chill vibe to it. It gets a little repetitive at the end but it's still likeable.
7. Sorry Now 7.5/10
Pop-Rocky and upbeat. "Why can't you come and say you need me?" By this point the cd does a good job at making these songes blend as one.
8. Stay On 7/10
A collaberation with Nick Hexum from 311. It even has a feel of one of their songs. Overall, it's bland.
9. Words to Me 7.5/10
Hip to the Hop. This had a little bit of that flavor. The lyrics are still underwhelming though. The guitar however, does its job well. Somewhat of an upbeat fluffier track.
10. Just A Little 8/10
The country vibe is actually nice. When usually I don't care too much for it, it fits here. I also like Mark's voice on this song.
11. Disasterpiece 7/10
The end of the cd makes way quickly. The guitars once again do their work. The harmonica jams its way through. but it doesn't help this song's mediocrity. Don't worry--I didn't jam out.
Overall, this cd just has an average feel to it.

Sugar: Sweet Like it was Meant to Be.......2005-04-25
When the radio played Sugar Ray's "Every Morning" at some point last June, it had been nearly two years since I'd last heard it, and that was definitely a good thing. After over-exposure to the song in high school, my ears needed a break from it. Pop hits tend to get overplayed, and that song was no exception.
However, after those 24 months of separation from old Sugar, I realized something: When I don't hear his songs five times a day, I actually like them. I enjoyed listening to "Fly" in its day, and songs like "Abracadabra" had me tapping my foot to the beat as well. For the first time, I realized that Sugar Ray's music might actually fall in my category of preference. I figured that it was time to invest in an album, so I went to a local used CD shop, and got not one, but two Sugar Ray albums for $2. In the process, I also learned a little something about Sugar Ray.
The albums I bought were Floored, and this self-titled one. I just happened to listen to Floored first. It wasn't what I expected, to say the least. The Limp-Bizkit-inspired style and crass lyrics blasted into my brain like a bucket of ice water at 3AM. Now, I know that some people prefer such aural punishment, and I'll admit that a few of the songs were clever, but let's just say that I wasn't prepared for the rage. That wasn't quite the mood I'd expected the CD to emanate. Needless to say, I was a little hesitant to put this second album into my stereo. So I didn't.
Thankfully, I put it into my computer instead. I was once again surprised, and this time, for the better. I actually stopped my work to listen. Was this the same Mark McGrath? Enjoying the music thoroughly, I listened to the first three tracks before I returned to my work. With the conclusion of "Under the Sun," a sense of relief came over me. The Mark McGrath who had written the soft songs I'd come to love had not died, but lives!
But besides being refreshing, this album was just plain excellent, and I would put list it as one of my favorites. It's one of the few CDs where I like all of the tracks, which all blend together well and flow nicely from one to the next. The lyrics appear well thought out, and as an added bonus, the final track is one of the best songs on the album (in my opinion), ending what I would consider a great CD on a pleasant note.
So while I'm thankful that I'm no longer ignorant of Sugar Ray's history after having listened to Floored, I'm much more grateful that afterwards, I still had the bravery to try this one out. If you're a Simple Plan or Good Charlotte fan, I have a feeling that this CD will fit right into your collection, but I'm additionally confident that a large variety of people will also enjoy it. Sugar was meant to be sweet, not bitter. I definitely support the band's change of style, and I hope that you will, too, and buy this album.
Man, this album is the bomb.......2005-04-15
This album is the bomb. It is one solid disc. Lots of great catch songs. This is my first sugar ray album, and I am really impressed by their music. This is one of those cds that it great for playing at a party or in your car because it is very positive and it rocks. If your a drummer, it has some great songs to drum to. Lots of catchy guitar rhythms in the tracks and Mark McGrath does a great job as the lead singer.
Another plus is that this album has hardly any objectionalbe content, so It's don't worry about that. Overall, a great disc and a great buy.
This isn't that bad but it made the past distant beyond time.......2005-02-24
After ripping up ITPOL I felt generous to this one because I actually liked this CD for a while. And who wouldn't, with popular hits like "When It's Over," "Answer the Phone," and "Disaster Piece." The last was the hit from the movie Shallow Hal while the first was a big hit on radio period. But more tracks inside did this CD well but yet some didn't. So let me get back to my old school rating system for these songs. Shall we?
1. Answer the Phone: This was my second favorite song on the CD and is a straight forward song about some girl Mark wants to answer the phone so he can "do it again." That was a funny part of the song and probably the CD too. 4.5/5
2. When It's over: Big radio hit but while i liked it I didn't find too much fanfare in it. 3.5/5
3. Under the Sun: This is hands down my favorite song. Yeah it sounds weird because of what I said about ITPOL but there's somthing about this song which made me keep pressing the repeat button over and over again. 5/5
4. Satellites: Not a bad song at all I kind of liked it but it's sort of bland. 3/5
5. Waiting: At first I hated it but i started listening to it more and I accept it over time. 3/5
6. Ours: Not ours in the sense of mine that is. 1/5
7. Sorry Now: 1/5
8. Stay On: I never did Like 311 and i think it had to do with Nick Hexum pulling a Sugar Ray with them. 1/5
9. Words to Me: Decent enough to not earn a 1. 2/5
10. Just a Litte: Just a little...dissapointing. 1/5
11. Disater Piece: Straight forward poppy and happy song which was in the Shallow Hal movie (as mentioned.) 3/5
Overall rating: 3/5
-This CD has it's moments that make it stellar but sometimes it appears weak when compared to Floored and 14:59. But on the happier flipside this looks like gold compared to ITPOL.

a great cd.......2005-07-18
As the owner of Floored, 14:59 and their self-titled cd, i can easily say this one is the best of those 3 (yes i am aware there are other albums by Sugar Ray). Less pop-ish, but not necessarily "hard" rock, this cd is very intense and enjoyable if one doesn't mind curses here and there.
wow! ohhh...........2005-03-24
After listening to the previews of some of the songs on this website I have deemed this album "bad" or "not fly". I suggest you spend your money on arcade games or fountain soda at the mall. Or if you do buy it, spend your remaining change on some glue so you can at least listen to it higher than a kite.
Stud album and best Sugar Ray.......2005-02-24
First of all for the people who said this one is lame...
Just shut up and go listen to In the Pursuit of Leisure losers.
With that said this is Floored, which came out in 1997 two years removed from Lemonade and Brownies. They don't even sound the same because L&B was hard as hell to comprehend while Floored was easier to access. Also who could forget "Fly" which made the album look awkwardly 1-sided with a light song and 10 harder. Now onto the review shall we?
1. RPM: Intro is awesome and so are DJ Homicide's race car samples with the sounds to match on guitar. 5/5
2. Breathe: The song barely gives you time to breathe because it's exceptional and stiff. 5/5
3. Anyone: More upbeat on the chorus then the other two were but still very good. 4.5/5
4. Fly: The big hit song...what else to say? 4/5
5. Speed Home California: Intesnity of thrash and punk styling make this one a winenr! 5/5
6. High Anxiety: Starts off slowly but builds momentum. 4/5
7. Tap, Twist, Snap: Okay song...not as strong as the others. 3/5
8. American Pig: Guilty pleasure song of mine! Great chorus and the openining and intermitten guitars are awesome. 6/5
9. Stand and Deliver: This is like Southern meets Ska in a sense but it makes due for a good song. 4/5
10. Cash: If you can stand the F-bomb a lot then this is a good speed song with funny effects from Homicide. 4.5/5
11. Invisible: Slow down and power hitting metal song. 4.5/5
12. Right Direction: short but good for the time it had. 3.5/5
13. Fly W/out Cat: See #4. 4/5
Overall rating: 4.8/5
-This was major improvement from L&B and singaled the height of intensity for Sugar Ray. Unfortunately, the intensity died down some for 14:59 and all together on the self titled and ITPOL. But take this for what it's worth and that's a bay side trash outing which will never be forgotten by hardcore fans and old school Sugar Ray fans alike.
I JUST WANNA FLY .......2004-11-11
If you don't have this, and you like Sugar Ray, get this. There are some other songs by this band I'd like to get an album of, but I cannot find them. What's that all about? Ah, well. Who gives a crap, huh? There are 2 kinds of "FLY" on this album. One is just the song, and the other, is with this guy in the song who starts it off and continues as the song goes on. I like that version, but then again, that might just be me. Peace.
WORST CASE OF SELLING OUT EVER!.......2004-06-30
i got this CD for like 3 dollars in a thrift stoor when i was like 13, because i was nostalgic of Fly, and come on it was only 3 dollars. This CD is so great, and Sugar Ray could've made their 3 CDs after this one so rocking and so bad ass if they hadn't have sold out so hard. Damn that fly! I hoped and prayed their new stuff would go back to rocking hard and being awesome so i got the self titled.....bad move, so when in the pursuit of leisure came out i didnt even give it a chance. I mean the CD wasn't even going well with Pop fans so i knew it had to be a big crap fest. But who knows maybe after a bombing pop album they'll go back to their old sound? Anyway, RPM is the intro track and really makes me think of that show Titus, with all the car noises and all. American Pig is the best song on the whole. It is a great track and Sugar Ray's best song ever. Download it to give you a taste of what you'll get from this CD.

Few traditional bluesmen have the swinging elegance and vocal grace of ex-Roomful of Blues frontman Sugar Ray Norcia. And this is his finest solo album, full of warm performances and well-written original tunes. Even when Sugar Ray's grinding out a Chicago shuffle like "I Done Got Wise," both his warm singing and his harp solos create luxurious melodies full of richly sustained notes that carefully underscore the deep emotions that put life in his lyrics. The title cut and "The Last Blues Song" are among his best numbers. The former explores the pain of possible infidelity and the latter is a secular prayer for a better world, set to a spare piano arrangement that gives Sugar Ray room to weave colorful filigrees and wide dynamics into his vocal phrases. He's also got a skillful journeyman Bluetones lineup here, with fellow Roomful alums Doug James and Carl Querfurth on sax and trombone; veteran Handy-nominated Michael "Mudcat" Ward on bass; Neal Gouvin on drums; and on guitar, Paul Size, who comfortably fills the seat formerly held by Ronnie Earl and Mike Welch. They play together with transparent mastery, giving the boss plenty of license to exercise his considerable talents. --Ted Drozdowski

Superb playing and singing..........2007-01-04
Although this CD was released in 2005, it has rarely left my CD player. Further, in looking at the most played CDs on my iPod for 2006, this CD came out tops. With all due respect to the previous two reviewers, one is right on (5 stars) and one is way, way off...but evey man has his opinion and herein is mine as follows...
Sugar Ray has a voice to die for, and there are very few who can blow a harp like him, either (check out the CD, 'Superharps'). On this CD Ray is joined by longtime bandmates Michael 'Mudcat' Ward on acoustic and electric bass and Neal Gouvin on the 'skins, with Anthony Geraci on the keyboard, and Paul Size (from Texas) slingin' the ax. They are joined by the infamous Providence Horns, i.e., Carl Querfurth on the 'bone' and Doug 'Mr Low' James on baritone and tenor sax -- need I say much more? Ray wrote or had a hand in writing most of the 13 songs here, and it is the best writing of his career. Check out the title tune 'Hands Across the Table' and you'll be hooked. Then try 'Say you Love Me,' 'I Wanna Marry You Girl,' and then check your pulse...the more classic, traditional blues numbers are also done with great taste and rarely have they been performed better than on this CD. This is traditional American blues music at its very best.
This is Ray's 3rd CD for Severn Records, and while the other two are also excellent, this is clearly the best one. The liner notes by 'Mudcat' Ward tell the story behind the lyrics and the music, and are very enlightening and entertaining.
It is true, in my opinion, that the best rendition of Roomful of Blues was during the '90's when Ray was fronting the band for 6 - 7 years. Roomful, still simply great, have never truly been the same, however, since Ray's departure, both solo and back to the Bluetones.
That said, Ray has had the opportunity to open up and branch out on CDs such as this one, and the ones prior to this release (Rockin' Sugar Daddy is great, as is Ray's 'Sweet and Swingin' released on Bullseye Blues and Jazz).
Ray is part of the RI blues scene, as are many of the artists who play on these records. I have had the joy of attending Ray's concerts and he is as good live, maybe better, than on his CDs. So, if he is in your area, go see the man and the other Bluetones, as well as whomever else might be in the audience and come on stage to play -- you will only regret that you didn't start listening to Ray earlier on...his vocals and harp playing are second to none. This CD is a treasure...and I don't say that lightly. Pick up a copy, turn up the volume, sit back and just relax and enjoy a true master...a great band, an outstanding blues CD.
Hands Across the table.......2005-07-10
I'm sorry but ever since Sugar Ray left Roomful of Blues, not only has Roomful gone downhill, but so has Sugar Ray. His voice was perfect for the jump blues, swinging style of that great band. But on his own, he lacks focus and his choices of material do not fit his strengths. The sound is hollow and flat and the energy weak. If it were not for his good harmonica licks, I wouldn't even give this album 1 star. A major disappointment from a guy that was my favorite vocalist when he was with Roomful.
Smoking Sugar.......2005-04-14
Sugar Ray's latest is a return to form, for the veteran singer and harmonica player. For years, Ray Norcia, honed his skills with Ronnie Earl, Roomful of Blues and the crop of the breed within blues. This effort brings back the Bluetones and newest guitar wiz Paul Size, once a member of the legendary outfit Red Devils. As can be expected, fantastic singing and creative harp-blowing, and definitely well chosen covers and originals. The mix is eclectic, no doubt, but it gels and cooks! Sugar was always a wonderful singer and his phrasing is nothing short of top notch. The songs cover old style R&B, rock, a few jazzy numbers and blues shuffles. Compared to his previous CD, this is clearly an improvement, this is easily this years best blues CD this far.

While Sugar Ray have reunited with longtime producer David Kahne, after their brief romance with Don Gilmore on 2001's self-titled album, they haven't returned to their party-on roots. Kahne has added some sophisticated flourishes to their sound, which seems to weigh them down. The cinematic string intro on "Chasing You Around," is a little top heavy. The strings on "Can't Start," a simple breezy gem about lost love, are equally incongruent. While the dense soundscape Kahne creates for the "Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)" makes sense, adding a hip-hop back beat, jazzy piano, and background chatter gives the tune the same anthemic quality as Pink's "Get This Party Started." Mark McGrath singing seems a little too tame for the crazy mix. McGrath does a not- perfect rendition of Joe Jackson's "Is She Really Going Out with Him," and doesn't change a thing, which is unusual for the singer, who usually doesn't like to play it that safe. These bawdy Peter Pans of rock are more appealing when they summon their innate raunchy power, instead of coming off like a 2003 version of the Beach Boys with the sand washed off. --Jaan Uhelszki
Album Description
One of the most eagerly anticipated releases of Summer 2003! The album sees the band blending a wide variety of sounds - including summery island rhythms, funky hip hop grooves, and infectious 80s-inspired melodies - into their own uniquely characteristic pop/rock cocktail. Featuring the first single 'Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)'. The CD is also enhanced with the bonus video for 'Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)'. Atlantic.

Sugar Ray did not sell out.......2004-07-15
For those of you who think Sugar Ray sold out your wrong. When you've been a band for 15 yrs you begin to mature, and it shows in their music. With ITPOL they have become very versital. You get the hip hop dance sound to Mr Bartender. the bluesy rock sound of In Through the Doggie Door, the reagge sound of 56 Hope Road, to the soft scentual side of Heaven. Plus the Cover of Is She Really Going Out With Him because Sugar Ray tries to put a cover on almost every cd. Even though its already a year old I would still recommend this cd.
In The Pursuit Of Leisure.......2004-05-11
You fans have got to be kidding. This is the best Sugar Ray stuff I have ever heard. The reason most people have a hard time with this last album is because now the band have a strong melody to every song they produce. The only problem is whenever I see them live they do not do any of their original songs from this album except Mr. Bartender (Mr. DJ). You can whistle every toon from start to finish. The melodies going on in the songs would rival the Beatles. Yes the Beatles! Hey punk is good but when you leave a song and it still stays with all day,man that is writing. .
4. Bring Me the Head Of... Led Zepplin Reference.
5. Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy) - Great opening riff.
12. Blues From A Gun Reminds me of the White ALbum.
Not a bad song on the album. I bought this cd when it first came out and it is still on my machine almost a year later. Longevity is the key for music, it holds up very well.
Pathetic.......2004-04-11
This album is just sad.Sugar ray have always been a guilty pleasure of mine and i'v had no problem admitting I liked them...until now. This album is a big joke piriod. It lacks the maturity of the self titeld and the catchy pop rock of 14:59.Sugar ray tryed to sell out and make bubbelgum pop with this release and faid misurably.

Gotta Love This Combination!.......2003-04-05
Sugar Ray is blessed with silky smooth baritone pipes and the ability to blow harp with the best of them and when combined with the Bluetones, Sugar Ray is usually at the top of his game. What more could you possibly ask for, Monster Mike on guitar? Well, after three solo releases of his own, the Monster has joined the Bluetones for what may well be Sugars best performance unrelated to the Roomful of Blues. Guitar lovers will be thrilled with the tasty chops that fill "Love & Trouble" and Mike's licks and fair bit of noodling on "Funk-Sun" or the delta sounds of "Tomorrow Morning". Sugar Ray puts in his usually excellent performance on a number of tunes here including the instrumental dedicated to September 11, "From Now On This Morning". If there is a downside to this otherwise fine disc it would be found in the Country hoedown number "Why the Sun Sets Red and Low" which seems strained and totally out of place here. All it's missing is a couple of hee haws and a howling dog. Thank god it is also the shortest song on the disc at 2 minutes and 21 seconds.
Monster Sugar is sweet!.......2003-04-01
The best baritone out of Rhode Island, well maybe the East Coast, or possibly the States-in modern times!! Sugar Ray Norcia has that velvety touch like Big Joe Turner and Bobby Bland and he sings from the heart. It is impossible to even think that he has not had the "blues"! This time he is back with the Bluetones (Michael Ward on bass and Neil Gouvin on drums), and Monster Mike Welch on guitar. Little Anthony guests on some tracks but this is pretty much a quartet recording, most of it live in the studio. Fans of Sugar knows what to expect; killer band, Chicago-Swamp/cajun-West Coast blues and that sweet tone harmonica on some tracks. True, this is eclectic, but this is probably how the band sounds like live and it is very good indeed. "Believe" kicks off with chromatic harp and a nice apologetic lyric about "a woman that is leaving surely"....not original but Sugar really sings the heartache and it is hard not to be touched. "Angels" sounds like vintage Sugar; amplified harp over a Chicago shuffle. "Love and trouble" is a slow blues with great harp again. "Burial season" is a song with a cajun touch, more than swamp. "Funk shun" features Monster Mike's guitar work on this slow blues. "Tomorrow" is a Howlin Wolf-inspired 2 chord blues with again deep blue guitar and harp work! The closing tune, and instrumental acknowledging 9/11, has a jazzy feel and brings this CD to a wonderful and dignified end. This is a great blues album in true Chicago style, and fans of vintage-sounding guitar and harp plus Sugar Ray's fantastic voice should get this one pronto. I class this as being as great as the CD "Knockout" from 1989, the first full album by this great outfit.
