Upside Down Radio
"Rich, haunting, emotional, and poetic, Tomorrow's Yesterday may very well be a permanent resident in my CD player."

Album Description
From the electrifying jolt of the title track to the epic album-closing Turtle Bliss, Tomorrow's Yesterday is exhilarating and enthralling. Feature songs include powerful lead single In The Darkness, the euphoric, anthemic Across The Waters and the melancholic, lovelorn Violet.

Amazon.com essential recording

The term "middle of the road" was virtually invented for Kenny Loggins, whose brand of plain and pleasant pop/rock has always managed to find a place on the charts. This 15-song set has most of the hits you'll need, including the soundtrack singles ("I'm Alright," "Danger Zone," "Footloose") and the duets with Stevie Nicks and Steve Perry. One thing is for sure: the man certainly knows a good hook when he hears it. --Marc Greilsamer

5 out of 5 stars If you love Kenny, you'll love this.......2007-07-17

I have been a fan of Kenny for years!! I attended my first Loggins & Messina concert way back in 1975. This is a collection of some of his more familiar hits. I bought this to replace the copie that I have literaly worn out. I keep it in my car to play when transporting my five grandchildren to and from their many activities. This one and also "Back to Pooh Corner" are their favorites. It is music that they enjoy and doesn't drive me crazy like some of the other things they listen to at home. They are both timeless music for all generations.

5 out of 5 stars A Treasure For Loggin's Fans.......2007-07-13

This collection is a must for any Loggin's fan. Whether it's power ballads such as "Conviction Of The Heart" and "The Real Thing" or the edgy "I'm Alright" and "Don't Fight It" with Steve Perry, his unique voice and cool tones will surely please.

5 out of 5 stars Loggins bloggins.......2007-06-09

I was surprised by the tunes on this CD. I am very glad to add it to my collection. Loggins is a very talented musician.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2007-04-10

This is a wonderful CD! It contains all of Kenny Loggin's greatest hits so it's fun to listen to on the road. Well worth the money!

4 out of 5 stars It could've been better.......2007-03-25

I really like this CD, but I am really disappointed that the original song "House At Pooh Corner" isn't on it. That's the only reason I don't rate this a 5. This was a bad decision by whomever compiled this CD.

5 out of 5 stars This needs a more articulate review..........2005-12-10

To tell the truth, the only reason I even listened to this disc in the store is because I spotted the cover, and wondered what the hell a guy who looked like that could sound like. I had a gushing smile on my face as I realized there was real talent and expression behind Moondog's odd facade. The first album on this disc (there are two herein) is made up of more "orchestral" material like none you've ever heard before (one of these tracks "stamping Grounds" is in "The Big Lebowski". The second album is made up of a series of short "rounds"; cyclical songs with naturally repetitive compositions (think row row row your boat, or three blind mice). Due to the familiar nature of such song forms, and the unique compositions employed by Moondog, the second album is quite buoyant and joyful. This is an all around great and very familiar listening experience, and quite a timeless set of albums. Get it while you still can!

Album Description

Téada (Pronounced tay-da, meaning "strings" in Irish) has been called "one of the most exciting traditional groups to emerge in recent years" (Irish World). The Irish quintet was voted "Best Traditional Newcomers" in Irish Music Magazine, and have released two highly-regarded albums on Green Linnet. "A new and fresh face in Irish music, Téada is a band to watch out for," says The Irish Voice.

On Inné Amárach (or `Yesterday Tomorrow') Téada juxtaposes musical material from as far back as the 18th century, with interpretations of diverse traditional tunes of modern origin, Téada reflects a deep cultural fascination with the interaction of past and present. Accompanied by a DVD documentary providing a snapshot of the group's musical influences, Inné Amárach or `Yesterday Tomorrow' is a vivid melodic and rhythmic exploration by a traditional group engaging with a global audience.

Package includes a bonus DVD featuring live performance footage of Téada and documentary of the rich musical culture of Ireland's Sligo region.

5 out of 5 stars If you like trad Irish, this CD and DVD is a must have!.......2007-03-04

This music CD and DVD combination is a great purchase for TRADITIONAL Irish folk music fans. Please understand that there is traditional Irish music played with more ornamentation and percussion, so we are talking about a less ornamented style of playing more typical of small groups involved in music sessions in pubs throughout Ireland, and of those sessions through the last couple of decades. The music CD is a tour of the length and breadth of this music and different rhythms. The DVD is a showpiece for County Sligo, including beautiful green scenery, the elder Sligo musicians being interviewed, pub sessions and studio work. That is alot of Ireland for the price of the purchase! Best viewed with a pint (or more) of Guinness.

This is a young band, and I am eagerly awaiting any future albums and/or DVD's. Their DVD is an especially valuable addition to my collection that includes Dervish at Johnny Fox's, Midsummer's Night Session (Dervish), One Night Stand (Danu), Water from the Well (Chieftains), Solas (Solas Concert), and Gael Force (Various Musicians).

5 out of 5 stars Best Irish trad album of 2006.......2007-01-29

I have to agree with an earlier review posted here: best Irish trad of 2006. A few years back, from their first two albums, Danú led the pack before they shifted with a new vocalist (see my review on Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh's solo debut) into more of a Sandy Denny/ Fairport blend of folk, trad, and light rock. Fifteen years ago, Altan. Twenty-five, Bothy Band. Thirty, Planxty.

This package offers eleven traditional tunes and a DVD feature that places the band within their influences, interviewing not only the musicians in Téada but their mentors in Sligo. Fittingly, this third album by this innovative quintet places Téada in the front ranks of younger Irish traditional groups. They delve deeply into the albums they have and the sessions they attend for selections from primarily Sligo and Clare. They merge these two traditions, usually kept apart by most musicians on their records, and this matches the make-up of the band: two Sligomen, a Dubliner, and one each from Laois and Monaghan. Guitar, flute, button accordion, fiddle, piano, and bodhrán work together.

The DVD shares this cooperative spirit, as fans of the band, local veterans of the music scene, and the band all contribute their appreciation of traditional music. The results here are not stodgy, however. The youth of the band ensures that the tunes are played with the proper balance of respect and rearrangement. All instrumental, the concentration of their energy bodes well. Given the decline in intensity by their somewhat older peers as shown on recent recordings by Lúnasa and Áltan, Téada continues to hone a sound that avoids concessions to synthetic production or diminished purity; this makes "Inné Amárach" a perfect title. Blending "yesterday" with "tomorrow," the audio with the video, studio talent with pub spontaneity, this handsomely designed CD-DVD set fulfills the promise of their first two solid records. It probably surpasses it; the confidence here should fuel more such albums by the five lads for many years to come. (Last 2 paragraphs from my review on rootsworld.com)

5 out of 5 stars The sound of the Irish "session" - perfected.......2006-11-10

Just hearing this CD brought back memories of great sessions in Ireland over the last 20 years. The difference is that the musicians here lift the "session" to a level of perfection that is a pleasure to listen to beyond the ordinary. Sweetly distinct instruments blend into a fusion that evokes those meetings of talented musicians (usually in pubs!) that one was rarely privileged to stumble into on the byways and highways of Ireland. Listening to this CD is like having your own top class session on hand when you need it! The changing balance of instruments on each track keeps the listener captivated.

5 out of 5 stars Best trad album of 2006.......2006-10-30

It's been a couple of years since Téada's last album, but man! was it worth the wait! This is a fantastic album of traditional music, in my opinion clearly the best traditional album of the year. It includes examples of many different types of tunes--you don't just get jigs and reels on this, no sir, you get planxties, marches, polkas, and even a "descriptive piece," "Nóra Críona," which is beautifully done, by the way. It is really seldom a traditional CD presents one with such a range of types of tunes, and seldom that such interesting tunes as these are included. For my part, my absolute favorite track on the whole album is the one that includes "The Shelf," a polka that Damien Stenson learned from Harry Bradley, though the track including the march "Jamesy Gannon's" is also wonderful (three members of Téada are also part of a ceili band which played this march as one of their selections in the Fleadh Cheoil competition). Each of the instruments gets a chance to shine on the various tracks, and from beginning to end this is a resolutely exciting album that shows off the tremendous talent of one of the finest traditional-style bands ever to come out of Ireland. What's even better is that, in addition to the wonderful music, there is a DVD containing a short documentary that addresses the musical influences of the band, which mostly consist of the musical traditions of North Connacht. There are interviews here with each of the band members, as well as the great fiddle/flute player Peter Horan, Verona Ryan, and Paddy Ryan, as well as stunning scenery from the Sligo region. If you love Irish music, you MUST HAVE this CD!

This was truly the end.Yesterday ,today & tomorrow was the last of the gems. You can tell they tryed hard to make this album another spinners classic.cuts like i found love ,your the love of my life and i must be living for a broken heart are truly the spinners at their best!.The song baby i need your love ia a bad attempt to remake the classic love don,t love nobody.Throwing a good love away is the song that tells mr wynn don,t know it now but you know it someday!.Labor of love is a disco cd it,s ok i guess because im a big spinners fan enjoy!

2 out of 5 stars Tough going.......2002-09-18

Buyers beware - this CD contains a misrepresentation on the front to the effect that there are 2 albums on one CD, while the back explains (in small print) that quite a few songs from Labor were left off owing to time constraints... A bit disappointing to be misled in that way. Having said that, we're not missing anything if the Labor songs included here are the best from that album - they're quite terrible.

Yesterday, etc is clearly the better of the 2 albums, although the latter half of the album is tough going to say the least. For example, "Throwing a Good Love Away" is musically and lyrically twee and it doesn't get any better over 8+ excruciating minutes.

Having said that, this is worth buying for my money just for "Shadow", "I Found Love" and "You're the Love of My Life". "You're the Love of My Life" is absolutely classic Spinners - a mid-tempo chugger that should see you hit the dancefloor and almost worth the price of the CD on its own (at least for insane Spinners [people] like me).

5 out of 5 stars the best rapper ever! suckells(4 tha non believers) k.d.s........2007-03-09

this cd is tight. I bought it for the 4 new songs cause i have the rest of them already. e-40 is light years ahead of time in this rap game. For those who have heard or listened to his music and don't agree or at lease acknowledge that he is one of the best, you are a disrespectful, dishonest, busta! for those who haven't heard this cd would be a good start for you.

3 out of 5 stars Good but could be so much Better.......2006-01-24

I agree with a previous review that this really should have been a two disc set.E-40 is one of the most original, bumpin' ass rappers on the west coast. The cd just skims the surface if you ask me,of how great he is.Simply put,if you dont own any E-40 or have never heard him, shame on you!If that is the case though this is a pretty good start for ya.If you really want the best of E-40 though you will need to buy all his cds or pretty damn close at least.

3 out of 5 stars E-40 is good rapper........2005-03-05

E-40 is good rapper. Good tracks are Zoom,Dusted `n' Disgusted and Automatic. His album gets 3 out of 5.

3 out of 5 stars "Best Of Yesterday Today & Tomorrow" Review!.......2005-01-02

If you've never heard of E-40 then you probably don't know about as much about West Coast rap as you'd like to think. Contrary to popular belief, most of the slang that Snoop Dogg made popular was actually borrowed from Forty. The Bay area icon has come up with some of the most inventive methods of speech ever and this "greatest hits" collection offers up some of the finest work in his career. Classics like "Rapper's Ball" and "Captain Save a H**" are excellent choices but a number of Forty's hottest joints ("Nah Nah", "Dusted & Disgusted") are noticeably absent. Four new unreleased songs make for a nice touch but this CD feels more like a preview of his work than a career retrospective. With close to a dozen albums in his catalog, Jive should have strongly considered making this "greatest hits" album a two-disc project.

5 out of 5 stars Bay Area's Best Shines.......2004-09-19

Sure, you know them all-With a few exceptions.
But does it matter?
E-40 is original, catchy and a true verbalist. If you don't love this album, it'll be because you can't keep up with it...

5 out of 5 stars 35 unmistakable tracks.......2005-02-24

You don't need to buy the double-disc "Moondog 1 & 2" to hear the two albums - all that music can also be heard on this (75 minute) single disc.
Even though the only cover art of this edition is the original front cover of the 1969 "Moondog" (no original back-cover thereof nor any art from the 1971 "Moondog II",) all 35 tracks are nicely crammed in here.
What's listed under "Listen to samples" on the amazon page are only the last 20 tracks of this CD and all titles are linked to the wrong tracks.

"Moondog I" (tracks 1-9) opens with "Theme" and "Stomping Ground" - two somewhat coherent pieces which a few years ago were made quite famous through the soundtrack of Coen Brothers' wonderful movie "The Big Lebowski." The album features a 50+ piece orchestra, which, among other greats, includes jazz veterans Don Butterfield (tuba) and Ron Carter (double bass.) In the list of personnel, Moondog is not credited for playing percussion, but the bass, which I assume is a misprint.
The beautiful Charlie Parker homage "Lament I: Bird's Lament" is here performed in its original form, but can also be found on the 1994 Moondog recording "Sax Pax For a Sax" on only saxes and percussion.
The orchestral performances on "Moondog I" aren't flawless, but should not be judged harshly because of the very personal, highly individual, and wonderfully eccentric form of compositions that they are. Budget, which is a very common issue when it comes to orchestral recordings, is another element that probably has not allowed much rehersing or many (if any) re-takes.

Before ordering this disc I knew that I'd love "Moondog I" since I'd heard most of it previously, but I was skeptical towards "Moondog II" because of some reviews I'd read of it. I was however curious, and listening to it when it had arrived was a very nice surprise.
Aside from performances by Louis "Moondog" Hardin (percussion, piano, vocals) and his daughter June (vocals,) "Moondog II" features 6 other musicians who, at different points throughout the album, play virginals, recorders, harpsichords, ancient organs, guitars, schom, viola de gamba, and troubadour harp. These instruments alone make a very individual sound, but the compositions (many of which are in 5/4 and 5/8) and the poetry make this the most wonderful group of rounds (short vocal canons) you've ever heard.

In my 700+ CD collection, this is among my favorites.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2004-01-26

Beautiful, quirky, fascinating. A combination of classical, jazz, and improv, this collection made me close my eyes and just feel the music. Interspersed with several of Hardin's two-line poems as punctuation, the musical pieces are truly a wonder.

5 out of 5 stars The Different Drummer We Once Were.......2004-01-05

I bought this album because of a memory, but the music stands up remarkably well to a more objective listening.

It was my first trip to New York City, and my father approached the wildly-dressed, tall and intiimidating figure standing on the corner of 56th St. and 7th Ave. They conversed in Norwegian long enough for me to draw nearer and realize the stranger represented no threat. In fact, I left with a book of hs canons, which remains in my collection of piano literature to this day.

I met Moondog once again--serendipitously, on Milwaukee's Wisconsin Avenue one day in the seventies. I have no idea how he got there or how he left, but this time I wanted to protect him from the insensitive pedestrians swirling around us and threatening our shared moment.

Moondog's music is as singular as he is, and offers a glimpse into his creative spirit. It begins with an idea and a form, not with an emotion or sentiment. Each piece is simple and brief, but not simplistic or fragmentary. He avoids any form of dissonance, even seventh chords and "blue" notes (flatted thirds). Music, like life, he seems to be saying, can be a straightforward, delighting adventure, providing one cherishes the quest itself above its so-called object and maintains a focused attention on the wonders of the present moment.

My only slight disappointment with this recording is that the madrigals, sung by Moondog and his daughter, are subjected to some studio effects that make them sound more artificial and commercial than they deserve to be.

5 out of 5 stars For those who love the music.......2003-11-29

It is simple, it is clear, it is wonderful! I don`t know what style is this. Some people call it `jazz`, but second disc is strongly attached to european madrigal canons. I think, if we listen really good music, we never asked about styles. I heard familiar tunes from Tchaikovsky to Resident`s Duck Stab. You must have this if you`re music lover. If you`re musician (who plays music, dont `have a job`) you must have it too. Listen once or twise, if you don`t like it, simply put it on the shelf. Properly time will come.
P.S. My favorite `I love you` and `Nero`s Expedition`

5 out of 5 stars Moondog.......2002-05-16

I was in the St. Thomas Boys Choir in the early 70's. We would walk to church for rehearsal, and pass Moondog, standing on the corner, usually by the ABC building. A couple of us would talk to him in our free time...he knew our names by our voices. We would listen to his poetry, and he seemed intigued by our choir, although he never heard us, I think. I got his album around this time, and have had it ever since. Fascinating pieces, very intricate, but also with "a hook"...that you find yourself humming along with. I heard he moved to Germany, where he wrote a nine hour canon. Overall, an amazing life story, and an incredible talent.

I love this album but unfortunately it is a SACD version. Super Audio CD unable to be played on my computer and other cd playing devices. Not exactly what I was looking for. Please specify on the product review what SACD is, so that the buyer knows what they are getting. Thanks.

Eleven all original brashly exuberant pop tunes which owe just as much to 50's & 60s rock n' roll raunch as they do to the fast and lean creed of 1977.

some bio/info

Carrying on the tradition set from their very first show, this five-piece has loudly made a name for themselves in New York City's rock n' roll underbelly, storming the stage again and again with a ready-or-not abandon that has earned them their audience and their reputation.

* "For those of you who don't know about Stalkers, they have been one of New York City's strongest and most consistent rock n' roll bands for a few years now. They've earned themselves a reputation for being one of the wildest acts on the scene."
Punk Magazine

* "Ramshackle punk-pop heroes from Brooklyn, New York. The kind of thing your mother warned you about. They make us want to pour a beer on our head and party."
NME

* "Pure, unkempt rock and roll...alright!"
Entertainment Weekly

* LET'S GET IT TOGETHER
"Single of the year thus far by some distance, for two reasons: firstly, the way the mere sleeve photo of these NYC gutter-rockers make Pete Doherty and his ilk's tramp impersonations seem even less convincing; secondly, the bit before the chorus where the singer drunkenly slobbers, `Somethin' happenin'! Happenin' tonight! So are you ready?' and 1,000 super-excited-but-also-slighty-scared cheerleaders scream, `YEAAAH!' by way of response."

    5 out of 5 stars short-circuited, sand-blasted and warped..........2005-11-03

Ash Bowie has created a singularly wierd solo outing under the name Libraness. Punked-up assaults like "Totempole" (which sounds like Brainiac and Ween trying to outplay eachother) alternate with prepared-banjo (sounding) string-twisters and downbeat indie-rock introspection.

Guitars spiral, swoop and churn in an angular and carefree way -- yet through it all, Bowie's warm, scratchy whisper of a voice lends a pleasant lo-fi murk to otherwise challenging material.

The great majority of the album sounds like it was 4-tracked in the living room or basement, then sandblasted and left out in the rain.

4 out of 5 stars new and old clouds.......2004-05-02

Don't mistake the seemingly paltry four star rating for not totally loving the crap out of this beautiful album. It took me a long time (a few years) to really come to appreciate this awesome work of schizophrenic artistry, but, oh, I am glad that I finally did.

Hey, it is very WEIRD music. It is also extrememly diverse, yet it somehow manages to flow like a mo-fo. No joke, folks. When the night is right, I put this one on and drink my face off, repeating "Yesterday and Tomorrow's Shells" from start to finish until sunrise. It wholly alters everything. Then I put it away for a long time so I can come back to it again far into the future, to span special time with my old buddy.

That's what might happen to you, should you elect to purchase this. Just kick down the used price and get your Libraness on already. (It's better than Polvo, I think.)

5 out of 5 stars This is a Great CD........2001-01-10

I have been a Polvo fan for the past 7 years and I have to admit, this is as good as any Polvo album. I recommend this to anyone. This album shows how much influence Ash Bowie had on Polvo.

4 out of 5 stars Polvo fans take note..........2000-11-13

Although the recording quality is not up to the standards of previous Polvo recordings, this record is still essential listening for any fan of Polvo. It's got real rockin' off-time guitar tracks like "Face on Backwards" to mellow (yet still experimental in the Polvo way) songs like "No Separation." Regardless of the quality of the recordings, it is worth the price of admission alone just to hear what Ash has been up to over the past few years. Now if he'd only play live again ....*sigh*
