Editorial Reviews
Mike Ventarola, Legends, Starvox, Gothic Topic
"Despite the band being placed within the gothic category, their sound could be best described as dark pop. They blend a style of gothic and trip hop on some songs while also utilizing more classical Celtic sounds for some of their ballads.

Octavia, Outburn Magazine issue #5
"Atmospheric Goth with a tinge of electronics: The deep male vocals are so seductive and the compositions are beautiful!" -

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Unknown.......2006-09-03

I'm surprised how sometimes the most unknown band can actually be pretty good. I heard Closure a very long time ago on Internet radio and their single "Look Out Below" grabbed me right away and has yet to let go. 2 years later I still hold that song close to my heart and I don't really know why. I'm not the one to usually decipher lyrics but this song just seems so powerful. Anyway, after hearing "Look Out Below" I felt the need to check out what else this band has to offer. I wasn't disappointed. The whole album is great. My favorite tracks are "Look Out Below", "Oxygen", "Afterglow", "Lie To Me". Here's the ratings for the rest of the tracks...

1. Look Out Below - *10/10
2. Afterglow - 10/10
3. Oxygen - 10/10
4. What Its All About - 10/10
5. Whatever Made You - 10/10
6. Crushed - 10/10
7. Lie To Me - 10/10
8. Live Again - 9/10
9. I Don't Mind (The Rain) - 10/10
10. Fragile - 9.5/10
11. You Are My Hatred - 10/10

Overall: 98% A

This was probably one of the best unknown albums I have found because almost every track is catchy and can be played and enjoyed out of sync with the rest of the album. The only con with this album is that you tend to get sick of it after frequent listening. Other than that It's still really good for anyone out there looking for new modern rock music to get their hands on.

1 out of 5 stars Copy Protection.......2006-02-26

This disc gets one star because it's defective. It's got copy protection on it and is therefor not actually a Compact Disc, though Amazon seems to be giving the impression that it is. Take a look at the packaging; nowhere will you find a CD logo. Sorry Closure. Apparently you guys rock, so I thought I try it out, but I'm done with you now. On to the next band who rocks and knows how to release ACTUAL CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD, and yes, it can be ripped with iTunes.......2005-11-05

I bought this CD from Amazon in April 2005. The music is solid and I definitely like their sound.

But the real reason I'm writing this review is to disagree with the reviewer who claims that this CD cannot be "ripped": Perhaps some versions of this CD cannot be ripped--or some software doesn't rip it--but I had no problems ripping the CD using iTunes. I have the full contents burned onto several CDs and on my two iPods (one at work, one for travelling).

3 out of 5 stars buyer beware.......2005-05-22

The cd is pretty good, but beware, it has a cds-100 copy protection that will not let you rip it to use on any a media player. As far as fair use goes this gets an F minus minus.

5 out of 5 stars Won't be Sorry.......2005-04-25

How many times have you bought a CD for a great song only to find out the rest of the cd stinks. Not so with Closure. I heard "Look Out Below" on the Darkness Falls movie and was hooked. I ran out to FYE only to find they didn't carry it. Thank goodness for Amazon. You will not be sorry, I haven't found one song that I don't like. Hope to hear more from this band.

Slo-mo, downbeat miserablists Tram return with their third album, the suitably tear-stained A Kind of Closure. Critical acclaim and a secure record deal do not seem to have eased their resolutely pervasive mood of melancholy. Singer Paul Anderson continues his fruitless dissection of relationships and disappointment, enveloping the mournful themes in stripped-down, otherworldy gentle plucks of guitar and piano. The songs are not joyless, however; the gorgeous, countrified pace of "Painful Education" belies Anderson's opening gambit of "So what is there to show / For all these battered years." The themes may be end-of-the-world bed-sit gloom, but the songs are so beautifully structured and delicate that the misery is made wondrous by its life-affirming music. The opener, "Three Years," is an impressive slice of dramatic, dark pop about someone who has "detected a joy he knew was a flaw," but the swooning, emotional pull of the song suggests the man can still see hope on the horizon. Low have been oft posited as Tram's spiritual comrades, but Tram perfect a particular, unwavering kind of melancholy that could only come from Britain. Tram wallow in their sadness, but do it beautifully. --Suzannah Brown

Album Description

The 3rd and finest release yet from this CMJ top UK group. Jetset Records. 2002.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Continuation of downbeat sound of earlier albums.......2002-08-05

Tram's third album continues the downbeat, melancholy sound of their previous two outings. The mood takes in the quieter moments of the Velvet Underground, the weariness of later-day Marianne Faithfull, and, perhaps most ingeniously, the drama of '60s era arrangements from the likes of Burt Bacharach. A few spots, such as the title track, show a bit of the VU's cacophony, and the closing track finds an almost hopeful up beat.

"Painful Education" seamlessly weaves pedal steel into the mix of slowly strummed acoustics, violin, piano and bass, and the muted horn arrangement and cymbal-work of "Theme" sit heavily in the air like the clouds of an approaching storm. Spare, delicate ballads like "Forgive Me Dear" and "Fools" unfold in super-slow motion - like non-ironic versions of Nick Lowe's "Endless Sleep."

With titles like "The Hope Has Been Taken Away," "You Let Me Down," and "Forgive Me Dear" Tram's latest LP is likely to please those who mope to The Smiths or tuck themselves away in their dorm rooms for repeated listenings of Leonard Cohen.

3-1/2 stars, if Amazon allowed fractional ratings.

Album Description

Over the past 13 years, INTEGRITY has become one of the most influential and recognizable bands in the underground extreme music scene. As it is true with all of their releases, this marks a new progression in the lyric composition and music writing. Lead singer and founding member, Dwid, has always been obsessed with trying new ideas, Closure is no exception. This album is by far, INTEGRITY's, darkest vision of the world to date. Closure is a perfect blend of dark, brooding rock with the brutal hardcore that has made INTEGRITY a leader in the hardcore, punk and metal worlds. This chapter is sure to convert the critics and to impress the loyal die-hard fans.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars 2nd best Integrity album..........2006-12-20

...notwithstanding the fact that it sounds NOTHING like any other Integrity record, before or since. Like some B-horror movie franchises, the Integrity name is a brand that gets slapped on a dizzing variety of products that bear no resemblance to one and other. Integrity changes musical styles and band lineups like most people change socks. The only constant is Dwid, the vocalist/screaming technician. Whether he's currently feeling straightedge (early 90's), following Charlie Manson and the Process Church (1995-1997), living in a "militia environment" (1997-1998 -rumored), playing with Japanese power electronics (1999-2000) or -as in this incarnation- channelling the spirit of Glenn Danzig circa 1981, Dwid is constantly fascinating. His output is wildly erratic, but he's a stylistic genius, so it's alright. Basically, this album is a weird tribute to the Misfits, updated for the millenium with screaming vocals, better production, and more ripping guitar distortion. If you like the Misfits and mid-90's metalcore, then this will hit the spot in a really unexpected way. If you want more Humanity is the Devil then...well...your screwed because Dwid has moved on.

4 out of 5 stars I thought it was good.......2001-11-11

Ok,this CD isn't the BEST integrity album Dwid has put out(Integrity IS Dwid),but i thought it was a good CD. Some tracks are better than others, but that isn't to say they aren't good, but the band could have elaberated on some tracks. I thought INTEG2000 was waaaay better, but this is still pretty good. They're sort of mixing slayer-esque licks and melodies, with punk beats and song length. 11 tracks,32 minutes. Short? Maybe, but try it if you want something new to hear. If not,get Integ2000 or something earier.

4 out of 5 stars Evil Core Forever!.......2001-05-15

Unlike the other reviewer, I'd have to say the contrasting background vocals in a few songs are what makes this CD so great and the tracks that don't have them (especially the quiet electronic songs) are the ones I skip over. If the new Misfits approached their records with this kind of attitude, they might be worth listening to. My only gripe is, there's no liner notes and I can't tell who the people who played everything are, I'd love to know if they've done anything else.

2 out of 5 stars Pale vision of former greatness..........2001-05-11

Well, it's a got a few good tracks, but this CD pales in comparison to the early Integrity work. There is way too much filler on here. Also, there are a few tracks with melodic backing vocals that re just not what I'm looking for when I want to hear Integrity. This one's for completists who must own the couple of solid tracks that are on here.

1 out of 5 stars Whatever........2007-06-09

Just another one of the bubblegum goth bands. If you like Bella Morte, Diva Destruction, or The Cruxshadows than you'll like these bozo's to. I just can't get into this poppy stoop. It's not evil enough for me I guess.

5 out of 5 stars Are you as perfect as you seem.. .......2004-08-15

Closure is the perfect example of why I got into the goth genre in the first place. The songs are brilliant, moving and they sound great. Tracks like Entropy, Shell Full of Sand, Sweetest Misery, and Sin Again are probably my favorites but the whole album is excellent. Some tracks have trip hop elements, there's some spanish guitar, some great lines of synth to snort and the vocalist has one of the best singing voices I've heard in quite awhile. It's a very powerful album that anyone who considers themselves a fan of goth music should have. This isn't some Sisters or Cure clone.. this is something fresh and something that avoids any of those cliche stereotypes that many of the newer bands seem to cling to. If you're into cheesey vampire songs this won't be your thing but if you like moving music that has depth you'll adore this disc.

4 out of 5 stars Dark pop, no, gothic trance, yes.......2002-05-31

I would categorize this sound as a mixture of gothic, trance, and classical mixed with Celtic roots. It's an amazing CD no matter what the category...and you should buy it! I think that words cannot give justice to such an amazing, gracefully powerful band. Within months of their first official release, they'd already become one of every gothic music lover's household names. That says something not only about the band, but the fans. I would be honoured to be a member of this band for 1) they're awesome and 2) nobody can get enough Gossamer. (:

Gossamer
Closure
Reviewed by: Mike Ventarola

The long anticipated Gossamer release is out, and the wait was worth every minute! For the first time, a full label release is available for those who have come to love their distinct and haunting sound from various compilation appearances and web based music sites such as MP3 and Riffage.

This band creates yet another chapter in the book of musical success stories. For about five years, they have had many lineup changes, false promises and abrupt transitions. Despite the numerous set backs, the core members were persistent and consistent. They maintained their integrity to their enduring quality and delivered music that earmarks this work as classic.

All of their songs were redone to give the fans an alternate version from what they have come to know and love from the online music services, and a NEW song was added in as well. It is hard to believe that this group could ever improve on their sound, but that they did and with this release, they show you what they are made of. Not since Jim Morrison, has one vocalist managed to exude so much sensuality with a recording, that one can almost envision the band causing spontaneous libidinous reactions all over the globe!

"Memoir" begins with the electronic, morose sound that we have been familiar with, however, Chris Gray pours the passion in double doses to sweep you off your feet into a wanderlust evening. With an improved sound quality, the song brings us on a magic carpet ride into a plush world laden with the dark eroticism.

"Sweetest Misery" opens with Gray sounding as if he is coming from an old time transistor radio from another era, blending the allurement of the past and present at once. The opening is much more macabre and contrasted from the DAM CD. There is a bit more of a trip hop element to it, but the mood remains true to the darkness and passion. There is an odd, pensive break in the middle of the song that should make DJ's happy during their nightly spins.

"Resurrection: resurrected:" Wipe out of your mind whatever you have heard of this song before and plug into the new version. It is more EBM focused but still dark, intense and driven. The rhythm pounds like a late night orgy of the mind that won't ever stop. Gray sings like a cogitative lover on the brink between desire and release. One can easily forecast a dance floor hit for this band with this track.

"Her Ghost" continues with the realm of adding more of the dark disposition than the initial DAM track. Layers of silk swirl around your mind to reel you in even deeper to the world of Gossamer. The song remains as effervescent as the original yet with the improved studio version, every little nuance comes to the foreground.

"Deceit & Betrayal" demonstrates some really great Spanish flavored acoustic guitar work by Brent Douglas that carries this song superbly, which makes it a fine example of a goth crossover for radio play.

"Hollow Eyes, Hollow Soul" has a more rock edge, somewhat like the original, however with the tweaked sound, elements of the song you may have missed from the DAM come to the foreground to create a bit more angst.

"Run" is another tune that was reconstructed. It was the first song this reviewer heard from this band on DJ Macross' In Perpetual Motion . . . that initially hooked me to their music. This CLASSIC is given a more dramatic opening and the vocal harmonies are absolutely exquisite. Plug in the headset and turn the volume UP!

"Entropy" moves away from the dark dance of some of the previous songs and brings Chris back to the realm of the injured poet in this ballad that could break the hardest heart.

"Sin Again" (with vocal assistance from Bethaney Fryer) A new song that was feverishly worked on for this release. The band recently placed this song on MP3 for the fans to hear, however, if you don't have a super whiz bang computer to play with, you haven't heard the full richness of the song the way it was meant to be listened to. You HAVE to hear the recorded version of this song to really appreciate its beauty and intensity.

"Shell Full of Sand" is the song that has been known to make grown men cry during Gossamer concerts. The new version will leave Kleenex up to their eyeballs in profits! It remains true to the original, however the full bodied musical effects and harmonies are more epicurean and mournful.

"Run (Wayne Hussey Mix)" is the song that helped catapult this band onto the lips of the music buying public when it was first featured on Cleopatra's "The Unquiet Grave Vol. 1" The sound quality on that compilation was good, however, this repressing is far superior.

It's really hard to be objective about a band whose work I have come to love and admire on a grand scale. No other band thus far has managed to create and maintain a more darkly sensuous atmosphere. When one thinks of typical gothic music, words and emotions related to macabre, spooky and gloomy usually come to mind. In some way, Gossamer incorporates all those essential qualities that makes a great goth record, but somehow Chris Gray weaves some type of invisible spell with his vocals to totally mesmerize the listener. He portrays a multitude of characters in the body of these songs that encapsulates the jilted lover, wounded poet and dark seducer. The songs are carried with so much introspection and feeling of depth, that it is as if we have been pushed inside his head and have become one with his emotional entanglements.

Band mates Aran, John and Michael seem to instinctively know how to wrap the music around the vocals to help layer the ambiance into poignant as well as dramatic moments. All of the members of Gossamer are able to make the transition from a dark dance tune to a brooding ballad without sacrificing the atmosphere or the sentiment on either style. This recording is highly recommended to old and new fans alike.

I love Spahn Ranch, and I have been into them since 1989, but this is a verry dissapointing album. Mostly slow downtempo experimental pop music that is lacking all of the essential industrial and coldwave ingridents that Spahn Ranch is famous for. This is by far the worst SP album, and unless it's selling for under $3 I don't recommend it to anybody unless you just have to collect every SP album.

Closure is a very diverse record. There are tracks that old fans will love (Destruction) as well as some very moody trip hop stuff (Born On A Ray Of Sound). A dancefloor hit (Reasons) and one excellent PJ Harvey cover (The River). I really didnt expect to enjoy this record as much as i did but it has been in my listen pile for the last 5 months. I think this is their best album since The Coiled One.

    5 out of 5 stars Pure genius!.......2002-06-14

These guys are amazing. Every record that they make only gets better. I am so sick of industrial music in general because it has become such an uninspiring scene. This band is the only one who offer a totally original aproach while still writing killer songs with each new release. I really think this might be my favorite disc by them yet. An album made for creative minds not loser scenesters!

5 out of 5 stars something for most.......2001-09-25

Although mostly a fan of ToT's earlier works, I am very pleased with this live recording - not only are the digibook feature (two mpegs from the concert) nice, but most of the tracks are taken from the excellent albums 'Aegis' and 'Velvet Darkness They Fear'. However, there are also tracks here that will make fans of ToT's later material happy. :)

    2 out of 5 stars Not a good mix.......2005-01-06

Too much of a contrast between the old on the new. ToT was a great band, but they're going too far into another direction that will not yield good results. The same techno thing happened to Danzig and Paradise Lost. The strained relationship between the members of ToT and Liv Kristine were obvious in the last few albums. She definitely was not feeling their new music as she's a devout metalhead. If you like old ToT, buy Liv's Leaves' Eyes album.

Getting back to Closure, the Aegis songs are great. The techno songs don't fit at all. I was like, "WTF?" And I'm open to that stuff. Der Tanz wasn't so great because they played the version that doesn't rock as much.

Overall, this was a bland live album and I'll be reselling it most likely.

3 out of 5 stars Not for all.......2001-09-20

As a recent fan of TOT I have to caution against a long time fan blindly picking up this C.D. since this album is pretty close to being schizophrenic. Close to half the songs are from the amazing album Aegis, while it seems as if the other half are from TOT's later day descent into techno-pop hell (not there's anything wrong with that). If you are a fan of their earlier music, then simply continue to listen to Aegis or their earlier stuff, while if you are a fan of their later music, you might not want to have to listen to half of Aegis's songs. The point is, and I'm not trying to speak for all of TOT's fan, it just seems that there are not too many people out there who are fans of all of their albums, so if you aren't one of those few you might want to just stick with what you've already got.

5 out of 5 stars enchanting and lovelier than ever............2001-06-22
