About the Artist
Agnes Poetry - a name chosen as a tribute to their mother, this sibling trio was originally formed under the name Yavannah in 1989 by singer/songwriter Rannoch Purcell and keyboardist/programmer Randon Purcell. Originally a duo, the band experimented with drummers and guitarists, but couldn't catch the sound they wanted with the other musicians. In 1991 the two brothers dispensed with the guitars and drums, purchased a drum machine, several synthesizers, and a midi sequencing workstation. It was then that they recruited their sister Ranita to sing backing vocals and began writing under the name Agnes Poetry. The new combination was exactly what they were looking for. In 1993 the trio moved to Provo, Utah to begin playing live shows. Their first hit, "Leaving" found it's way to X-96 radio's Local's Only show. "Leaving" quickly earned the spot of "most requested song" on the program, and built the band a large local following. In January of 1994 Agnes Poetry started in the studio on their first album project.

Unrest, Agnes Poetry's debut album, was released in April of 1994, and was an immediate success in the Utah locals scene. In May of 1994, X-96 began giving Agnes Poetry prime time rotation, and the singles "Unrest" and "My Reward" climbed to the top of the station's charts. Several months of touring coupled with heavy radio air play made Agnes Poetry a huge success in Salt Lake City, and brought them widespread recognition as one of Utah's most prominent bands.

Only one year later, Agnes Poetry released the "Once Upon The Weather" e.p., followed three months later by their second album, Forgotten. Again, heavy touring and radio play helped maintain their status in the local scene, and made Forgotten another hit among their fans.

During the next two years Agnes Poetry began incorporating distortions, heavy sampling, and guitar into their music. In the fall of 1997, Agnes Poetry returned to the studio and put their new sound down to tape. In November of the same year, they released the cd single "Drown". The enthusiastic response to the "new" Agnes Poetry drove the band back to the studio in the spring of 1998 for a full album project.

Recording the new songs proved more of a challenge than past projects. Live strings, bass, and piano were recorded for several tracks, something which had never been done in the past, and new production techniques were constantly being experimented with to achieve the vision the band had for each song.

Five months later, the album was finished. In September of 1998 Agnes Poetry released Leave The Light On, their third full length album. The title track was aired on X-96's new music program where it was voted "best new song" for several weeks straight. Leave The Light On became an immediate success, acknowledged by the band and their listeners alike as Agnes Poetry at their best.

Currently the band is working on a new album, and have already recorded the first single "I'd Hideaway", which the band proclaims is yet another evolution of their music. Studio sessions are being planned to record more new material for the release of a new e.p. or album in late 2000.

      Product Description

Unforgotten Christmas is the third and newest release in a series of eight "Un" recordings by pianist, Christopher Finkelmeyer. Fans of the series have come to expect the unexpected in an "Un" recording. This time it takes the form of original music. Along with Finkelmeyer's hallmark lush tone, stunning musicality and masterful technique, "Unforgotten Christmas" distinguishes itself by the fact that fourteen, of the seventeen cuts (including the special minidisk), are his own Original Concert Improvisations on the Sacred Themes of Christmas. Whereas "Passionately Unstuffed" and "Unspoken" take the listener on a journey via the colorful, direct essays in their respective booklets, "Unforgotten Christmas" is a uniquely individual encounter, with no guide whatsoever, except for the listener's own experiences as he meets the familiar melodies of sacred Christmas music woven within a tapestry of exotic and classical harmonies. Other cuts include the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria , Brahms Intermezzo in Eb Major, and Bach-Busoni Awake the Voice Commands . A special recording on separate minidisk accompanies "Unforgotten Christmas" . It includes the single, 'Hymn to the Forgotten Soldier' written by Finkelmeyer as a reminder not to forget the men and women who return home from war. Perfect for a quiet evening alone, driving in traffic or accompanying an elegant Christmas dinner, "Unforgotten Christmas" with its lovely music, beautiful packaging, and special minidisk makes a truly memorable gift for hostesses, housewarmings, teachers, friends and family.

5 out of 5 stars New life to old chestnuts.......2006-12-24

I received Christopher Finkelmeyer's Unforgotten Christmas only a few days before Christmas, after most of the titles on it had long since become part of the background noise of the annual shopping frenzy. But being familiar with Mr. Finkelmeyer's previous two albums, Passionately Unstuffed and Unspoken, I knew this would be one album of Christmas music that would not only be played, but actually listened to. The familiar themes of the season are evident, but Mr. Finkelmeyer's improvisations make them so fresh that it is like hearing them for the first time. Even more significant, they evoke feelings that might well have been experienced by Christians of old, when a holy day was not merely a holiday. J. S. Bach, a religious man and no mean improviser himself, would surely approve of what Mr. Finkelmeyer has done with his "Ave Maria" and "Awake the Voice Commands." Finkelmeyer even manages to create something significant from "Away In a Manger" and "Ding Dong Merrily on High" while still capturing the fun. Like the first two of the projected series of eight "Un-" CDs, this one should inspire a love of real music in a new generation, and it will reawaken an appreciation of these familiar works in even the most jaded listener. The packaging is worthy of the music; it would be almost a shame to wrap this gift before giving it to friend.

5 out of 5 stars Unforgotten Christmas is simply Unforgettable!.......2006-12-16

If you wish to forget the concerns of the day, aid your meditation efforts, soothe or stir your soul, just listen to pianist Christopher Finkelmeyer's latest Christmas concert improvisations. He takes you on an improvisational classical piano journey that transforms the familiar melodies into new musical images. One piece after another, your heart swells with the audiant artistry that has already been stirred by the outstanding visual effects of the unique cover art packaging. You have to both see and hear it to believe that the artist, Finkelmeyer, has done it again! And if the 14 unforgettalbe tracks are not enough, then be sure to play the bonus mini disc that is included. Two more masterful improvisations to remember! So, if you "Wonder As You Wander," consider adding this to your music menu. It's a keeper - like all Christopher Finkelmeyer creations.

          Album Description

By: Richard Horowitz Winter Solstice 2004

The following was written while listening to the CD, not before, not after.

          1. The Karatesque deftness of Kushan's ultra-light mallets generate a relentless macrospiral that collides with the percussion as if it were the beginning of a cosmic battle with gravity itself, which in Kushan's ultra-fluid world is either the same as or the origin of memory (since gravity is now thought to act interdimensionally on the dissonance in the overtone structure to create matter, as it were, according to Jaron).

          2. The Santur is a spider web trapping an exotic bird made of microtonal wind: the tables devour the winds.

          3. The Santur is a billion-year-long humming bird feasting on the carcass of a black hole: the beat shifts and a ritual footless waltz turns on an axis of split-seconds.

          4. Darkness, dissonance, expectation: one of Kushan's most tight-roped moments! Echoes of Zarathustra. The introduction leads down the path to a cave where dreams are stored. There is a throne made of vibrating unstruck strings; on it sits Kushan's perfectly disembodied voice luring us to a circular hole at the top of the cave. We rise and converge with him into the night sky.

          5. Warmth, confidence, courage! Mahour Alan is flying over his most precious memories.

          6. A dense nucleus of thought forms shape, shift in waves of melismas.

          7. Raga Todhi. Kushan attacks shadows of overtones with mallets made of fire and tears. His voice glides over the buzzing of souls guiding them to the inner secret he has come to reveal.

          8. An old wooden boat arrives on a beach at night. A majestic fire dance and sacrifices are being performed.

          9. The dancers leave the beach and start running through a wide valley. Their eyes are stars shooting solar flares through the mountains. Faster and faster they run, unable to stop. There is no end.

          5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2004-05-10

This is a great addition to any collection. I was so happy to see that Agnes Poetry had put together a cd with all of their greatest songs. If you haven't heard of Agnes Poetry before, download the free mp3's that are offered, then decide about the album.

Some of the older songs are really great and heartfelt, although the newer music is great as well. In the newer songs you can really hear the band developing their style and talents and making even better music than before. That is saying a lot as their first works are already wonderful!

This is truly a band who deserved to be "discovered"! They have broken up, but Rannoch and Randon are making music under the name of Adom9. So, get this album while you can!

          4 out of 5 stars Tradition.......2003-08-19

At my high school, when ever we would have a dance, whether it was a formal, in-formal, or stomp we would play anges poetry's song leaving as the very last song. it wasn't until my final dance my senior year that i really listened to it. and now, i love them! this c.d. has amazing lyrics and awesome music too. if you are looking for one of those groups who isn't very popular, but really great, agnes poetry is what you want.

          5 out of 5 stars It's Been A Long Time.......2003-02-18

I have known these guys ever since Me and csome Buddies built the Edge in Provo... Very talented and really small town down to earth... Would have been huge if they were 10 years younger but suffered from the missed the 80's syndrome as their early sound would have complimented OMD, Erasure, Alphaville & Real Life a couple of which they have had the chance to perform with in the 90's. My buddy Travis recorded their first stuff for his studio project at BYU and I will have to say their sound had evolved and continued to change (inenjoyable ways) as time has gone on. My favorite of thir new songs personally is "State Of Mind" which is really way outside the norm for them but a fun one. You will enjoy this... If you have not heard their stuff before and you enjoy the previously mentioned bands you won't be going out on a limb here. Buy it... You will like it!

2 out of 5 stars Polish my demo.......2002-03-30

I bought this CD on the strength of the two downloadable tracks here on amazon, and that other people bought it with purchases that I also have. It's pretty dissapointing: the synth choices are on the clunky side, the drum tracks are unimaginative, the male vocal is weak -- the staple and bane of synth bands, it seems -- but the female vocal is arranged so badly it is funny. Some nice melodies there, but nothing groundbreaking or energetic. Only the last three tracks of disc two made me sit up.

What this thing seems to need most is a good producer who can take this material to the next level. Right now it just sounds like really accomplished home-made demos.

          5 out of 5 stars Something Different.......2001-02-08

I bought this album kind of blindly based on Internet recommendations. I was hoping for some new synth music worth hearing. It turned out to be a very good investment. The music included in Unforgotten ranges widely, and though I certainly can't say I like every song, the good ones (and there are quite a few of them) are very good.
I am impressed by the subtle intricacy of their songs--many of them change significantly as they go along, adding in new sounds and developing very strong melodies. At times they seem fairly heavily influenced by specific British synth groups, but their sound overall is definitely unique. Their harmonized vocals are especially nice in some songs.
Again, some of these tracks I find much better than others, but there are so many, and such a large number of good ones, that I consider Unforgotten well worth owning.
