Vampire Muzak.......2007-04-01
The music on the series was very effective and enjoyable, but being written in service to the story and visuals makes it a little unsatisfying with the music alone.
Exactly what I expected.......2007-03-26
I wish it had a few more darker songs on the album but what I got is exactly what I expected it to be. I am very satisfied with my purchase.
Music to remember.......2007-03-13
The opening track of the album by Darling Violetta, is absolutely fantastic. Having all the Buffy albums and knowing how thought provoking the music is from that show, I did expect more from the Angel album. But it's still good music and any fan would be happy to say they have it.
Love the show - Love the music.......2007-01-20
It is wonderful music!!! It is as huanting as it was while watching the show!
more please!.......2006-12-05
One of my favorite is season 5 episode 6 "The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco " I wish this compilation include the guitar solo section. I am completely opposite to the one of the reviewer. I love the music part only. I find it inspiring. There's some Hans Zimmer style in it. I really dig it...quiet yet powerful. However, it start to become a little too formulated. Too much of the same thing is definitely not a good thing. Ahhh, classic tragic hero stories. I can't resist.

Broadway veteran Liz Callaway (most famous for her five-year stint as Grizabella in Cats on Broadway in the late '90s) fills her second solo album with lesser-known tunes, a number of them covering moments in her career. Her lovely soprano can break your heart with the ballad "Since You Stayed Here" then thrill you with the showstopper "The Story Goes On" from Baby (which earned her a Tony nomination). The emotional heart of the album is "Meadowlark," Stephen Schwartz's wondrous tale of risk and heartbreak that proves a particularly glorious marriage with Callaway's voice. In a savvy bit of programming, that peak is followed by the deliciously langorous "Sleepy Man." Callaway's sister, jazz/cabaret singer Ann Hampton Callaway, makes a guest appearance in Stephen Sondheim's powerful "Our Time," a teaser of the sisters' live collaboration. Of Varese Sarabande's many albums spotlighting Broadway singers, The Story Goes On is one of their absolute best. --David Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
Y'all are crazy!.......2006-11-03
The Billy Porter duet is one of the most unique and thrilling songs on the cd. What a fantastic re-invention of that song. And their voices by themselves and together are glorious. Its all personal taste and by no means is that the only good song. Its probably THE best solo cd by a broadway artist. Incredible!
Liz Callaway Goes On..........2006-05-02
Liz Callaway has one of the most enthralling voices around. Her voice is melodious and very soothing and especially shines in soft and subdued ballads. She doesn't have a big voice but she has an amazing range and sense of melody.
She opens the album with a strong rendition of "You There in the Back Row" a song I'm not familiar with but has grown to love. The next track "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair" lacks the spunk and bite that I think the song should have, and the arrangement felt out of place in the album.
She had a touching and moving rendition of `Since You Stayed Here". I'm not familiar with the musical Brownstone but this song made me want to check out the musical. It's about someone forced to become a stronger person after a breakup or some sort, that you wouldn't recognize it's the same person. I really love this song and Liz captured the strength as well as the sadness of the song.
Another standout is her now trademark version of "Meadowlark". The story of the meadowlark was a metaphor that convinced the character to the important decision she made in leaving her husband for another man. This is a really powerful song and truly Liz Callaway soared in this song. "Sleepy Man" was another notable track. This is probably the song that fits Liz Callaway's voice most perfectly. It was very sweet and really really soothing in the ears. This is one of my favorite tracks.
"Stop Time" is a song about the inexplicable combination of joy and sadness of watching your child grow up. It was a tender rendition that ends with a beautiful subdued last note. This woman knows how to end a song.
Once I got passed the cheesiness of the arrangement of "One Boy", I enjoyed it. It's old fashioned but it's still good. Liz then made an updated rendition of "The Story Goes On" from her show "Baby" This song was about a mother-to-be finally realizing the beauty and magic of carrying a child after she felt the child's first kick. I prefer the stronger arrangement of the song in this album compared to the Baby Cast Recording, but the innocence of that earlier rendition still resonates.
She ended the album with a beautiful rendition of "A Place Called Home". I first heard this song in one of Lea Salonga's concerts and I fell in love with this song. Her last note was very touching and melodiously and heartbreakingly romantic.
Grade= A
Liz Callaway SOARS!.......2005-06-27
Wow! I love this cd! I went to a camp in Decatur, Illinois called Showchoir Camps of America. One night, as our evening entertainment, she performed this entire album!! That afternoon Ms. Liz came for a question and answer session with Phil Reno. She is such a down to earth person and sooo very talented! At the concert, I started to cry! During one song, Ms. Liz forgot the words to a song ( actually, I forgot what the song was called!), so she just made up some words to it!! If you want a TRUELY talented performer, Liz Callaway is the one for you!
....Love this album too!.......2004-08-18
I love this album. There are a few songs I kinda skip, because it was just weird. That song being "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of my Hair", weird. I loved the duet "Where is Love" from the musical Oliver. "Stop,Time" from the musical BIG (grab your puffs!). I enjoyed the 50's sounding "One Boy!" from Bye,Bye Birdie. Liz has a wonderful range, and flattering childish tone to her voice, reaching notes that would take me years of training to ever reach again! She has complied all these exciting songs and ends the album with "A Place Called Home", from A Christmas Carol. I could never give her enough praise. If you like Strisand, and Sintra, you'll love her too! :-) Liz is always shinning when she sings! Enjoy!
Unknown Talent Sings Unknown and Known Broadway Songs.......2003-06-10
... I thought I recognized the voice but I couldn't quite place it. I finally realized that she was the singing voice of Anastacia in the animated movie. Meg Ryan was the speaking voice. Liz Callaway has one of the clearest voices I have ever heard and also a very strong voice. I love her rendition of Knowing When to Leave/Promises, Promises by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Great arrangements. Dionne Warwick, who I am also a fan of covered Promises, and the Carpenters sang a version of Knowing When to Leave. I'm also a Carpenters' fan. On this album all the songs are Broadway. Many I hadn't heard before but love now due to Liz. The first song, You There in the Backrow is a tribute to fans of shows. "Watch me sing my song for you" the words go. Liz makes you want to jump to your feet. Liz does a rendition of I' Gonna Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair from South Pacific, rock version. I can't say that's my favorite, but favorite to one of my friends. Since You Stayed Here, another unknown song to me, is quiet and hauntingly beautiful. Bette Midler does a version of this I think on her CD with From a Distance. She sings a duet with her sister, Ann Hampton Callaway who sings on Sibling Revelry with Liz. Ann wrote and sang the theme from The Nanny. The song Liz and Callaway and here sister does is Our Time. It's also on Sibling Revelry. Great duet. One of my favorites on the CD is Marry Me a Little by Stephen Sondheim. The words are a plea to marry me, a little. The song is an almost a desperate plea to marry me but you don't have to make promises you don't want to, an open marriage? Make a few demands a few that I'm able to fulfill. She sings I'm ready. We won't have to give up a thing, we'll stay who we are the words say. Someone I'm Ready. I would give this song 5 stars on its own. It makes me cry because she sounds like she will settle but at the same time she wants the love fully. The arrngements on this album are unique. She sings I've Got the Sun in the Morning from Annie Get Your Gun jazzy. Most of the other songs on the album are not known by most people. I can only say that Liz makes you want to see these shows and she pulls you in. I think I've become her biggest fan. I'm a singer too. I could see myself singing with her. I have her The Beat Goes On album too with sixties hits. I hope that people will get to know her because if you haven't heard this or her voice, you are going to be deprived of a remarkale clear strong voice. Buy this. I promise you won't be sorry! One more addition, Meadowlark. Spectacular! The story tells of someone hesitating because the time wasn't right and she learns from the story to live your life, climb every mtn.

Excellent CD.......2006-02-24
As Ignite will return with new CD this spring along with tour with Comeback Kid, I have to appreciate how invaluable this CD has been in my mp3 player for the past 5 years. Usually when I bought the hardcore cds I stopped listening them after a half year or so. Having said that, this Ignite's "A Place Called Home" has stayed my rotation list for years and I could not be bored listening it over and over. I must stress that this is not only great hardcore album but excellent ROCK album. Personally, the latter half of the CD is just amazing. Usually, Ignite is known for the fast-melodic band, but I love their mellow songs, such as "Be My Side", "Pieter", and "Bullets Included"-these songs illustrate how profesisonal their songwriting has been. I hope their new album would follow same direction as "A Place Called Home."
Ignite.......2005-12-07
First of all, Ignite shouldn't be even compared to Nickelback! They aren't a bar band. And its a totally different Genre.I have listened to "A place called home" for several years and it has become one of my favorites. My band has played with Ignite and they are awesome live and worth respecting. Chugga
actually, the lyrics ARE good, if not THE best in the genre.......2005-08-01
I just have to comment on this guy claiming the lyrics are worthless; they're just not.
A phrase out of 'run': (about child abuse)
The nightmares are our memories
The broken homes and noses that bleed
Afraid to stay nowhere to turn
Domestic violence tragedies.
Run! Run! Run!
Keep on beating them down!
What could make you so mad,
To beat your own children?
A phrase out of 'bullets included': (about the gunlaws)
Put down your gun punk,
put up your dukes son.
Why can't you be a man?
Fight me one on one!
Don't need guns or knives to hide behind.
Bullets included, no thought required...
I think those two are pretty complex issues for a song and the lyrics they've come up with are very well put. I think Ignite has in Zoli, apart from an excellent singer, one of the best hardcore-songwriters.
I'm not the one to give 5 stars easily, but this is just THE best cd in this genre I heard in a long time.
Btw, check them out if they're coming near you, they're awesome live aswell.
!!! IS HOME IN PRESCHOOL? !!!.......2005-05-17
O.K, AFTER SEEING NO BAD REVIEWS, I HAVE TO REVIEW THIS CD. I BOUGHT THIS CD BECAUSE OF THE SONGS "WHO SOLD OUT NOW" AND "NO REGRETS" I LOVED THEM. I BOUGHT THE CD, AND UPON LISTENING TO IT, DISCOVERED IT HAS THE !!! WORST !!! LYRICS EVER! WHO ARE THESE GUYS, NICKELBACK? THE SONGS "RUN" AND "BULLETS INCLUDED..", HAVE THE WORST LYRICS IVE EVER HEARD. AS SOMEONE WHO LIKES BANDS FOR MORE THAN JUST THE MUSIC, AND CARES ABOUT WHAT THE LYRICS ARE (WHICH IS KINDA THE WHOLE POINT TO A SONG), I CANT UNDERSTAND HOW EVERYONE REVIEWING THIS CD HASNT HEARD WHAT THE HELL THE GUYS IS REALLY SAYING, OR THEY JUST ARENT REALLY LISTENING. MY GUESS IS PEOPLE JUST LOVE ANY SORT OF MUSIC THAT IS FAST, AND HAS EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF TALENT. DONT GET ME WRONG, SOME SONGS ON THIS CD "ARE" GOOD, BUT THE ONES THAT SUCK, SUCK REALLY, REALLY, BAD. THATS ALL.
One of hardcore's greatest efforts.......2004-10-24
Ignite is one of the greatest bands in hardcore, and this is one awesome disc from them. Beware, if Hatebreed is the only type of hardcore you have ever bothered to listen to, this will shock you. There is not a roid-rage gorilla vocalist (no offense to Jaime) but rather a thoughful S-I-N-G-E-R that can really deliver the goods. Very well-rounded band. Great disc. Pick it up.

Beautiful..............................2002-06-14
I purchased this import cd for the wonderful song, "As Close As This". The song unfortunately did not make it onto Stories from the..........album but none the less this cd is worth purchasing for this song alone! The lyrics are quite personal and mystical and they transcend you to another world full of love and devotion. PJ Harvey is by far one of the most important women in music today and her unique vocal stylings cannot be matched. So all of you faithful fans of PJ Harvey should own this cd or you'll be missing out on a beautiful song.

Fine band on the leading edge of the bluegrass renaissance.......2003-09-05
Playing Time: 37:33 -- With four expert pickers, three of them lead singers, and seven excellent newly composed numbers from David Coffey, the Virginia-based band, Phoenix, is back with another fantastic bluegrass project. The band is truly an up-and-coming group to keep your eyes on. Phoenix is David Coffey (guitar), Eddie King (mandolin), Randy Driskill (banjo), and Ronnie Davis (bass). Coffey, King and Driskill share the lead vocal duties, and a few more liner notes would've been nice to know who's singing when. While I think a tad bit of hot, tasteful guest fiddle would've enhanced this project, the instrumental and vocal work are strong, nicely-arranged, and well-blended. Although he's not credited in the liner notes, I believe it's Coffey who adds some resophonic guitar to "A Mother's Love." I like their mix of new, fresh originals combined with old jamming standards such as "Think of What You've Done," "This Morning at Nine," and "Wandering Boy" even though some may feel these classics have been over-done. Besides Driskill's crisp banjo, it is Coffey's songsmithing that really makes this album sparkle. Contemporary songs like "Angels in my Dreams," the title cut, and "You've Been So Good To Me" have the potential to become tomorrow's bluegrass standards. I hope these songs get wide distribution, airplay, and coverage by other artists.
"A Place Called Home" is the third CD release from this band that's been together for about five years (their other outstanding albums include "Rising From The Ashes" and "Blue Ridge Frame of Mind"). The band members, all Virginia born and bred, demonstrate considerable musical talent and skill. David Coffey is a multi-instrumentalist who has worked with Lew Dewitt, the Judds, George Jones, Patty Loveless, Keith Whitley and his own band, Virginia Blend. A little research shows that Phoenix's other members have been around too. Mandolinist Eddie King has played with Bluegrass Horizon, Harvest, Silvercreek, Bill Harrell and the Virginians, and he has filled in with Larry Sparks, J.D. Crowe, and Country Gentlemen. Five-string player Randy Driskill has picked with Chief Powhatan, Harvest, Skyline Express, Alvin Breeden and the Virginia Cut-Ups and Lonesome River Band. Finally, bassman Ronnie Davis' first band was called "Allegheny," then he played with Alvin Breeden and the Virginia Cut-Ups, Sweetwater, Skyline Express, and the Country Gentlemen.
Phoenix was formed when four friends that grew up together decided to revive their music and work jointly and cooperatively as a unit. Building on their professional backgrounds, musical experience, and traditional roots, this renewal is turning some heads. These guys know how to put on a musical show, and they enjoy kicking back with friends and sharing stories and laughs too. With one foot in tradition and the other in the future, Phoenix is a fine band that has emerged on the leading edge of the renaissance in bluegrass music. (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now)
