THIS SONG IS AWESOME.......2000-12-14
Okay, let me get to the point. This song rocks! Buy this single. The song is awesome plus the single comes with the video, which, might I add, also rocks. the song is a great mix of outstanding lyrics, an ingenius melody - created by a mix of Anthony Kiedis' great voice, John Fruciante's impressive guitar skills, and Flea's awesome bass. Order this single NOW! Believe me, you'll be happy with it.
Good rock single but excellent video.......2000-09-04
I haven't really ever been a fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers, but this track "Otherside" really caught my attention one day and I had to pick it up before it went out of print. So I got it and really enjoyed the softer rock with really good lyrics. The guitar rock and even the wording shows signs of Smashing Pumpkins, but maybe I just want to hear what I want to hear. Also the video directed by the same famous duo known for "Tonite, Tonite" helped force that into my head. If you haven't seen the video, this single is worth the price for just that alone. It's a dark silent movie feel such as the fore mentioned Pumpkins video. I prefer it way over the massive video game thing of "Califronication". You'll also find a nice seventies funkish track in "How Strong". Sung with a lot of passion and made interesting by later harder rock guitars. Another really good song.
I'm still not convinced that I'm going to get any Chili Peppers albums, but this song hooked me. Fans, get this one just for the impressive video. Non fans, give the song a chance as a nice intro into the group before getting any albums.
Great Tune -- Great Video.......2000-07-12
I've never given the RHCPs much more than a passing glance, butthis song made me sit up and take notice...I'm at the age now where Isound like my parents, telling kids to turn down the noise, but the Peppers just got themselves a 40 year old fan! Imagine my surprise when I found that this single also comes with a multimedia (Quicktime 4) version of the video. The video is just the coolest, with a retro-1930's futuristic feel about it (does that make sense?), and played just fine on my PC.
Really good single.......2000-06-25
Otherside is one of my favortie songs, so i was excited when I saw the single hanging in the msuci stores shelves. The title track is definitely the highlight, but the other song, a previosely unreleased single, "how strong," is pretty good, too. And i was also excited about the music video that was contained on this CD, i really love the video. But, unfortunately, the movie wouldn't play on my computer. But it's still a good single anyway.
A baffeling move by the Chili Peppers.......2000-06-15
I am a huge Peppers fan. californication (the newest album) ranks number 2 in my top 5 favorite albums (1 would be Nirvana's Nevermind). However, I am stunned as to why they put the best track on the album out as a single. It is a great song, and if you like, you MUST buy the album. For me it is the most emotionally evolking song on the album. And the latest single californication (also the album title) is my 2nd favorite track. So buy the single for the bonus video of "otherside" on it, and buy the album for the great music.

Not bad.......2006-07-30
"Otherside" is the third single lifted off of the album Californication. It's a complex song that fuses dark, ominous themes with perfectly matched backing-vocals and superb drum playing (that can feel a little lagging at times). The song plays great, and instantly fills you with dark sensations. It's alright, and could be picked up on the album for more bang to your buck.
This single is coupled with "How Strong" and "Road Trippin'" which has been stripped of its string section. "How Strong" is a song that feels dirty and somewhat lacking. It could be much better, and much less irritating, however you are rewarded with a very nice guitar solo from John that fits in beautifully.
"Road Trippin'" is played here, minus the strings. It does make for an interesting listen, but, in the end, it isn't extremely exciting or worth while. I recommend this for collectors only.
Nice single, but get the import..........2005-09-29
"Otherside", the third single from "Californication", was released in two parts domestically and one part overseas. Given that it's now out of print, digging up the import makes more sense since it gets you all the material and is likely to cost less.
The title track is one of the best songs on "Californication"-- a moody piece that in many ways points to the future, its a mellow piece with a chorus that becomes progressively more soaked in vocal harmonies, it lacks that sort of funk sound, but it has a great drive to it even though it sits midtempo-- Chad Smith's drumming is phrased ahead of the beat leaving a feeling of being pulled along.
The b-sides on part 1 are "How Strong" and "Road Trippin'" without the string overdub. "How Strong" suffers from feeling like a b-side-- it's not a bad piece, but it kind of muddles along and isn't a particularly exciting performance (nice noisy, restrained guitar solo from John Frusciante though). "Road Trippin'", another of the great pieces from "Californication", is presented without the string overdubs. The piece loses some of its sense of drama without the strings, and I actually much prefer the overdubbed take. Nonetheless, it makes for an interesting listen.
Regardless of quality though, it's hard to consider this one when the import has part 2's tracks as well. Find that one, it has much more value.

It's a complex song that fuses dark, ominous themes with perfectly matched backing-vocals and superb drum playing (that can feel a little lagging at times). The song plays great, and instantly fills you with dark sensations. It's not the best Chili Pepper creation, and could be picked up on the album for more bang to your buck.
This single itself is coupled with "My Lovely Man" and two music videos--"Scar Tissue" and "Around the World". "My Lovely Man" is a song that bursts with on-stage energy (like all their live performances) and forces you to enjoy it, even if you'd rather skip it on the CD, Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Much energy that was missing from the actual album is made up for here, and, clearly, the Peppers love to sing and play their hearts out. This is a real gem that will ruminate in your mind for days.
The two music videos on here are nice. Scar Tissue is a great video that thrusts the band out into the harsh desert, scarred and left for dead. It's a powerful, moving piece that makes you feel their pain. Around the World, on the other hand, is an upbeat, glorified, orange-tang masterpiece that keeps your adrenaline rushing from start to finish. However, one could watch both of these, for free, online. I recommend this for collectors only.

The b-side on part 2 is a live take of "My Lovely Man"-- a great song from "Blood Sugar Sex Magick" about Hillel Slovak. The piece comes off great live, as Kiedis has gained confidence in his vocals and the detail of the piece seems to shine much better with the instruments sounding clearer, more distinct, and further separated than they did on the album. This single also includes a data segement with videos for "Scar Tissue" and "Around the World"-- quite honestly, I was never one for music videos, they're pretty goofy, but they weren't a big selling point for the single.
Still, I knock its rating because the import version has part 1 and part 2. Find that, it's far better value for the money.
It's Only For Collectors.......2005-01-15
This cd only has one song that may be hard to find, "My lovely man" live. The enhanced video is of pretty bad quality. Only for collectors.

The song plays great, and instantly fills you with dark sensations. It's alright, and could be picked up on the album for more bang to your buck.

It could be much better, and much less irritating, however you are rewarded with a very nice guitar solo from John that fits in beautifully. A pleasant accompaniment to the Single; nevertheless it's lacking worth.
"Road Trippin'" is played here, minus the strings. It does make for an interesting listen, but, in the end, it isn't extremely exciting or worth while. It transforms the song into an even more basic, watered-down rendition, however, considering that the song feels bare even with strings, it's better not taken out.
It even comes with the two music videos found on the second Single. "Scar Tissue" is a great video that thrusts the band out into the harsh desert, scarred and left for dead. It's a powerful, moving piece that makes you feel their pain. "Around the World", on the other hand, is an upbeat, glorified, orange-tang masterpiece that keeps your adrenaline rushing from start to finish. Recommended--good value for casual and die hard fans alike.

Again, this release gives you all the material and is well worth the investment in place of the two US singles.
3 Words - My Lovely Man!!.......2003-07-08
As far as live b-sides on singles go you just never know what you're gonna get. Well, I've got almost every live b-side the Peppers have ever done and the version of "My Lovely Man" found here is totally top notch! Wow!! More energy than a herd of mad buffalo!! The improvised jam at the end is one of their best on an official release. The unreleased track from the Californication sessions called "How Strong" is good but "Gong Li" on the Scar Tissue single is much more interesting. The fan also gets videos of Scar Tissue and Around the World with this edition. To get all of this you'll have to buy the IMPORT not the US version.
Great song + enhanced features = BUY ME!.......2000-06-18
This is an import well worth buying for any Chili Peppers fan. In addition to the stellar non-album track "How Strong," the disc features the mesmerising "Otherside" video. The only reason "How Strong" didn't make Californication is that it didn't fit with the rest of the tracks. But it is at least as good as the songs on the album, and surely more interesting than album fare such as "I Like Dirt." The disc here is rounded out by an alternate take of "Road Trippin'," one of Californication's highlights. Like the title says, this version's a little more sparse than the original, breaking it down to its true roots: a beautifully simple acoustic song from a raucus funk-rock outfit from Los Angeles. If you like this one, check out the black disc version of "Otherside," featuring the video to "All Around the World."
