5 out of 5 stars MCS Rocks.......2007-05-30

How often do you see rock albums that have all stars? I don't mean my own rating, but at the time I am writing this MCS I am the Movie has a perfect review, and there's some meaning to that.
MCS is a totally new sound, creativity, and engaging style that is FINALLY breathing some new life into rock bands. Rock bands are a dime a dozen, and every one of them thinks they have what it takes- but the problem is they all sound the same, and most are not pushing forward with a new sound, but copycating all the old bands we love. This CD is a totally new experience and fun, and in the tradition of old rock with a new flair....Wait can you say the word flair in a rock album review? This CD has something that most everyone will like. Very good quality music, songs, and sound.

5 out of 5 stars Great debut from a great band........2006-08-10

Motion City soundtrack is a band that never fails to impress me, no matter how many times I hear each song. They get better with each listen, rather than becoming tired and overdone. I would reccomend this cd to almost anyone. The album doesnt have abad song on it.

"Cambridge"- 7/10- Good first track, but not perfect. Catchy without being too poppy, and with a slight edge.

"Shiver"- 10/10- Amazing song. Definately in my top 3 MCS songs of all time. Once again catchy without being too poppy, and it has a great chorus and interesting lyrics.

"The Future Freaks Me Out"- 9/10- This song is the big hit. Yes it is catchy and an interesting song as well, but there are better songs on the disc. But make no mistake, this is still a very good song.

"Indoor Living"- 9/10- Good song, slow intro that builds into a great chorus. This song keeps the vibe going, and is one of the better tracks.

"My Favorite Accident"- 10/10- Another Great song. Catchy, fast, intriguing lyrics, and a great sing a long chorus.

"Perfect Teeth"- 10/10- The great songs keep coming with this track. Perfect soundtrack to highschool life in general, a fun song with good drums.

"Boombox Generation"- 9/10- Great song- this is a perfect example of what MCS is- Pop-punk with a slight edge, some of which was lost after this album (not to say 'Commite...' isnt a great album, just different).

"Dont Call it a Comeback"- 7/10- a Faster song, good intro, but overall not one of my favs on the cd. Slightly heavier than the rest. Still a well done song.

"Modern Chemistry"- 8/10- Good song, more emotional than the others. But not as good as...

"Capital H"- 10/10- What a great song. What can be said? Some songs are just amazing. Great lyrics, nice music, good drums(as always), and one of the best sing-a-long choruses they have ever achieved.

"Red Dress"- 8/10- Good song. Quick, catchy, and a fun. Another nice effort by MCS.

"Mary Without Sound"- 9/10- Another somewhat edgy song. Faster intro. Emotional, and well executed, this song works well towards the end of the record.

"Autographs and Apologies"- 8/10- Good pre-closer song, slow and well written, this song is not one of my favorites, but is still good.

"A-Ok"- 9/10- A risky closer, this song works. Although "Autographs and Apoligies" seems a more obvious choice for the closer, this song sounds similar to the rest of the record, but has a tone of finality to it, partly aided by the lyrics, and partly by the music, which conveys a bitter attitude towards the subject.

Overall just a superb record. Slightly edgier than the follow up, but I still have a hard time choosing a favorite. I would reccomend both cds. MCS is simply an amazing band.

5 out of 5 stars A refreshng change.......2006-07-02

Let me start off by saying I really love classic rock. I've never heard of these wierd sub genres many reviewers speak of such as emocore, screamo etc. But what I do know is that these guys rock. The lead singer's emo tinged voice behind the pop sound of the rest of the band make for a great combo. The keyboardist is just crazy. I never thought keyboards could sound that way. There really are not any bad tracks here. Every one could be a single which makes it all the more strange that these guys arn't more popular. To say this album is underated is an understatement. They're lyrics are inventive, smart, and even funny. I urge you. give this a listen, even if you hate pop or emo they will completely change your mind.

5 out of 5 stars Buy It!.......2006-06-04

This CD rocks! Motion City Soundtrack is an awesome band. This CD is very catchy. I saw MCS at Warped Tour, and they are great live. And they are from Minnesota, which is where I'm from, so that makes me like than even more.

Oh, and to the person who ripped on MCS, why don't you find something else to do than wasting your time saying how much you hate them? People these days . . .

So buy the CD!

5 out of 5 stars This CD is So Underrated.......2006-05-14

this is an awesome CD. MCS is a really talented band and is far different from the other bands that are out right now they are an amazing band to see live they have a lot of energy. And that person who bombed MCS and compared them to black flag, and slayer! No way! this is Power Pop (NOT EMOCORE) EmoCORE is converge. there is no screaming of emo lyrics with heavy guitars. And they don't even look like a Metal band. This is pop here. and this is a very talented pop Band! If you don't have this CD buy it!

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious!!!.......2007-07-03

I just listened to this CD for the first time yesterday. If you love the Boston Pops, classical music, amazing "NEW" arrangements of old favorites, and Allan Sherman's crazy humor, this is the CD for you. My husband and I laughed ourselves silly.

I will never think of "Peter and the Wolf" in the same way again, and Allan's creative genius is clearly demonstrated in his variations on "How Dry I Am." Then, he seems to access all the thoughts you've ever had on the "never ending" finales to classical symphonies -- right on target!

I have loved "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah" and many of Allan's other famous parodies for years -- don't want to admit how many, but I had never heard this album. It is now my favorite!

As to the sound -- it is crisp and clean -- even when heard through a car stereo.

Buy it. You won't be sorry. (Heck, I'm buying several more to give as gifts!)

5 out of 5 stars Peter and the Commissar.......2007-01-22

Of all the CD's (and LP's) I have listened to over the years, this is without doubt my favorite. Allan Sherman was a pretty funny comic in the early 60's and The Boston Pops were (and are), well, The Boston Pops. This was a very clever combination of a funny guy, a world renowned orchestra and a witty story and music line. Classical music lovers with a sense of humor will love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars A very funny piece.......2007-01-18

I first heard this back in the early 1970s and found it again. The title track is a very funny piece of satire and I enjoyed listening to it again after such a long time.

I got a second copy for a friend and he was absolutely delighted when he received it.

Allan Sherman did some great comedy pieces and this is certainly one of his best, I think.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-07-09

For years I was only familiar with this recording from a promotional album (only partial tracks and interview snippets) my Grandfather had and was excited to see that the full version was available on CD. I still love it but after having heard the "best bits" version some of the new (to me) stuff feels like filler. Regardless, the "best bits" are very funny and the album - I mean - CD is worth getting. Even my boys (ages 10 and 12) enjoy it....Hey, don't forget to pick up the Allan Sherman Boxed Set as well...it's another family favorite.

5 out of 5 stars Classical Gas.......2006-01-30

This is the most hilarious CD with a classical bent I have ever heard. Allen Sherman is gifted when it comes to imaginative uses of classical themes. Anyone who has heard any of these famous melodies will laugh themselves silly when they hear what is done to them! It's a super pick-me-up when I'm feeling blue. It's a must-hear for all you classical music buffs!

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Music from Humphrey Bogar Movies.......2007-06-27

I was disappointed. I thought I would be getting a CD of full length themes from his movies but the CD is exactly what it says. It is from the actual films, in sections and pieces. I can't say it was misrepresented so I guess I was at fault. But I am sorry I bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Simply the original.......2007-06-19

As the previous reviewer rightly pointed out, these are the original recordings from the era the films were made. And yes, the sound is completely different from what we are used to hear when we are turning the CD player on: it's mono, it's partially unsteady and some of the pieces suddenly fade. BUT, it's the REAL thing and it transports the charms and the charisma, inherent to the original ONLY.
Those who prefer the flawless technical perfection of a re-recording better should save their money. But for those who love the movies and their genuine sound, should be perfectly pleased with this release.

2 out of 5 stars not the stuff dreams are made of.......2007-01-03

most of the tracks on this cd are available elsewhere, but what prompts me to give this a low review is the quality of the recording. some of them sound like they were taped off of a tv set showing a warbly print. you can do better elsewhere.
