5 out of 5 stars dEEEEEEEEEEEE-light FULL.......2006-10-06

i mean, C'MON man. its MELVINS. half the fun is not getting what you'd expect. i've readheardseen some people comment that the band is only good when they're doing heavy, grunge/sludge/metal type s**t like in all their early stuff. but to me half the fun of the band is never really knowing whats gonna happen next--ie, ELECTORETARD or THE BOOTLICKER. y'dig? SO, to all semi-fans who are interested in either becoming fans or deciding they dont' like the band, do what I did...get HOUDINI and/or STONER WITCH then switch up the next two purchases by getting something early, like GLUEY PORCH TREATMENTS or OZMA and also getting later stuff like ELECTRORETARD or HOSTILE AMBIENT TAKEOVER or even their colaboration with Lustmord PIGS OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE to see what Buzz and Dale are REALLY all about.

4 out of 5 stars For the Completist.......2004-07-07

Any rabid fan of what has become and what has been the melvins should seek out this album. An album of 'covers', some of which happen to be catalog melvins titles, the band dramatically reinterprets what's gone before and very liberally makes it their own, 'Lovely Butterfly' and 'Revolve' stand out. A Cows cover, a Pink Floyd cover and a twelve minute marathon 'Youth of America' make appearances and round out an oddities collection done most proper by the greatest band of all time.

5 out of 5 stars You people are nuts!.......2002-11-23

I am going against the grain here. Ozma sucks! Gluey is boring! I know that most of you would kill me now if you had the chance. But let us face facts here. The Melvins are now one of the best bands ever. They really were influential and creative way back when, but so was black sabbath. and i hate sabbath. electroretard has an extremely rad version of revolve, youth of america is 8 minutes of mind numbing bliss, and everything else is great. Buzz, you have come a long way. Electroretard is great, however hostile amient takeover is one of the best albums ever. Rock onward young consumers!

more like, less bash! don't listen to those yahoos below me; they know nossing! this album has some covers, some reworkings, some noise. all great. you know this if you're here.

1 out of 5 stars doesn't rock very hard.......2001-05-07

a lot of self-indulgent syntho blips and squeaks instead of guitars, and the cover version of "interstellar overdrive" is just a straight remake of syd barrett pink floyd, only not as dynamic. i've listened to it twice, just to be fair, but i'm irritated at myself that i spent money on this.
