It deserved better.......2007-07-05
I've often wondered if I'm the only person alive who saw "Seesaw!" It's been sadly neglected. Michele Lee was wonderful, and it was a great introduction to a guy named Tommy Tune.. The music is very enjoyable. Highly recommended for Broadway show lovers!
SEESAW (1973 ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST).......2007-01-27
I SAW THIS SHOW AND LOVED EVERY MOMENT. I TILL REMEMBER HOW MUCH FUN I HAD. I WAS IN COLLEGE AT THE TIME AND HAD THE GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO SEE IT AGAIN. THE SCORE IS WONDERFUL, TUNEFUL AND MEMORABLE.
A Broadway nadir........2004-09-14
With all due respect to Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields, both of whom made major contributions to the Broadway canon, this must be one of the weakest musical scores ever committed to vinyl. Worst of all, it bears no relation to the poignant two-character play on which it is based. Just who was it who wanted that tender little play to be enhanced by a big campy production number starring Tommy Tune?
Michele Lee sings Cy Coleman's most underrated score.......2004-01-28
SEESAW was a musical version of William Gibson's rueful comedy-drama TWO FOR THE SEESAW, which originally starred Anne Bancroft. For the musical version, the leading lady was the delightful Michele Lee (BRAVO GIOVANNI) who earned a Tony nomination for her performance.
The Cy Coleman-Dorothy Fields score includes great numbers like "Nobody Does It Like Me", "In Tune" and the 11 o'clock number "Poor Everybody Else".
The supporting cast includes the always-reliable Tommy Tune, as well as Ken Howard, Cecelia Norfleet and LaMonte DesFontaines.
Highly-recommended for fans of Broadway musicals as well as the incantory Miss Michele Lee. [DRG CDRG6108]
This Seesaw is merely quirky fun.......1999-08-22
Cy Coleman's Seesaw overture is a wonderful start to a wonderfully breezy CD. Most of the chorus numbers are very poor ( Spanglish, Ride Out the Storm), but the spotlighted Michele Lee, Ken Howard, and Tommy Tune are preserved fantastically. Michele Lee's husky voice is capable of making your heart soar and break at the same time. Her comedic timing is wonderful (Welcome to Holiday Inn), her down-on-her-luck song is perfection(Nobody Does It Like Me), and Poor Everybody Else will have you rooting for Michele instantly. Ken Howard is truly a Lovable Lunatic. And Tommy Tune's Tony Award winning performance is captured here with "It's Not Where You Start." It is typically Coleman music, but he is wonderfully aided with Dorothy Fields's lyrics. If you can find it for a discount, don't resist!

HBO's pioneering series takes the dark carnival gambit of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes, drops it in the bleak heartland of Dust Bowl-era America and jolts it with a compelling undercurrent of Biblical apocalypse. That's no easy dramatic flux to musically evoke, but veteran TV composer Jeff Beal graces the show with cues that seamlessly fuse Appalachian folk traditions with a brooding, goth-inspired ambient gloom. The anxious solo fiddle of the show's theme is a repeating motif, one the composer uses to variously evoke melancholy ("Dora Mae's Funeral"), bittersweet romance ("Rita Sue and Jonesy") or supernatural wonders ("Ben Heals the Girl"). Beal's use of mournful solo horn (as on "Mark of the Beast") often heralds the show's undercurrent of Biblical doom, while his hesitant, haunting piano passages seem to hang in the air for eternity. The evocative cues here stand in stark contrast to the oft-quirky jazz cool of the composer's Emmy-winning work on Monk, ample tribute to Beal's masterful abilities to channel his musical instincts into even the most diverse dramatic material. --Jerry McCulley

HBO, you're idiots!.......2007-05-07
This was a great show, and the music is awesome. Haunting and wistful, it's great in the background when working or taking a bubble bath.
best part isn't even by jeff beal.......2007-03-04
the tone for the shows music was created by wendy melvoin & lisa coleman...the theme they created is the best part of this cd. too bad more of the original music from the first season wasn't included in this compilation. also, just a correction to a previous post; the people who designed the main titles won the emmy, the jeff beal.
"Carnivale" review.......2006-11-04
Without a doubt "Carnivale" is head and shoulders above any series I have seen. There is not a weak point in any of the catagories.
the acting was superb. The Sets were awsome. The music was incredible. The lightening was phenominal.. Great great Series.

Still great.......2007-03-11
Many years ago, my brother had his own local radio show and always used the dub version of "You're The One For Me" as opening tune. I loved it straight away. I bought the single, the LP and over the years, I have collected many CD versions of this song, because the track is so great, they keep on mixing and remixing it over and over again and still it's great to listen too. This is a great album with great songs.
You're the One for Me..........2006-12-21
Great disc - D-Train is a man who gives you value for your hard-earned money! Get aboard the "D-Train." Five stars...
Awesome, and just down-right FUNKY!.......2006-01-05
This cd by D Train is timeless. It sounds just as fresh now and it did when it was originally released. I just can't stop listening to it. I especially enjoy the uplifting lyrics of "Keep On." I sure hope they plan a visit to the SF Bay Area.....and SOON!
still bumping.......2005-11-16
the title track alone still keeps my feet flying."you're the one for me" is a Head Bopping Funk Throw down. the rest of the Album has some decent cuts.the Keyboard work on here is still slamming.still a cool Record.
Soulful Classic Jams !.......2005-01-11
D-Train represents some of the best of R&B old skool to come out of the early 80's. It definitely wasn't disco and it wasn't formulaic pop. It's the great funk and soul void that was filled before rap and other styles of urban soul would take the airwaves by storm... D-Train's unique musical and vocal style was unmatched by any other smooth and slick funk/soul duo act during this period ! No other duo or artist sounded like them...Their sophisticated blend of synth and bass work along with J. Williams' deep and almost gospel-like vocals flowed so smoothly and had that mesmerizing hook to it !...The music in general could make even the worse of two-left feet dancers get up and shake their stuff !...You can call D-Train's musical style urban soul, 80's dance, funk... One thing is for sure; it's definitely pleasing to the ears, soul, mind, heart and feet.
The other great D-Train album title (found only as an import c.d.) is "Something's On Your Mind"...while not as popular or having that great musical impact like "You're the One For me" , it is still worthy of obtaining from 1984.

Pretty good renderings of a Classic dance number........2005-08-21
D Train's You're The One For Me has received some updated remixes over it's 24 year (as of his writing) life. It seems to have escaped me that this song got some '93 remixes. I am aware of the '94 remixes by CCN which stayed faithful to the song's original styling while adding some new drums and percussion.
I like all of the remixes this song has received thus far, none of which I have heard have rendered this song unrecognizable. Here, the Dimitri and the Bassic Remxies add a few different elements but the original instruments are still on board. NOTE: Track one is NOT the original mix by Francios Kevorkian. It is actually the Paul Hardcastle remix which came out in about 1986. Hardcastle was the first to remix this song after it's hey-day.
Ending out the disc is the radio edit of the Francois Kevorkian original mix from 1981.

Customer Reviews:
She Truly Is Everything In a Torch Singer.......2005-04-25
It has been so hard to imagine a soul singer that really did come back big time last year. Anita Baker is absolutely no acception. She had been absent from the public eye for quite a long time, because of taking care of family issues, and her voice hasn't lost any feeling it has proven for years. Her latest single, You're My Everything, the opening track, and first single from her comeback album My Everything, is a very soulful and seductive pop song. Her voice on this song is just purely delightful and better than ever. It is just a great song.
The B-Side is also no acception to be overlooked, Close Your Eyes is also as very seductive and deep to Anita's voice. This song is a great song, and truly brings out even more to bring her voice into full circle. This song is very sensual, and brings out that sexy appeal unlike a lot of other artists can do like Beyonce' or Jennifer Lopez with their images. This is just a great song. It is just too bad this wasn't released as a single in the U.S. unlike My Everything. This is just a beautiful soul ballad.

Close You Eyes: B+

"You're the storm" is a definite highlight of the cardigans' awesome 2003 album "long gone before daylight", but what were they thinking keeping "Hold Me" hidden away on a b-side? do not dismay: get this single immediately for this amazing song and also a slow, quieter version of the single that matches its beauty entirely.
