This rowdy, chant-along San Diego crew debuted in the majors as a lean but ravenously hungry '90s answer to Southside Johnny & the Ashbury Jukes. The skin-tight horns separate 'em from the pack while scalding riffs like "On A Rope," "Young Livers," and "Used" (sounding like a Born To Run hommage) make this a safe buy. "Punk is dead," they claim: and this slams home like a stake through the heart. Jeff Bateman

5 out of 5 stars The Band's Creative Peak.......2005-04-25

Rocket From The Crypt was really onto something here. The four records the band released prior to "Scream Dracula Scream!" are all fine records on their own, but looking back, one can tell that they were leading up to this. "Scream Dracula Scream!" finally captures a band coming into it's own and right at their creative peak. It's larger-than-life song structures and wall-of-sound production really makes an impact on the listener. It's hard to believe that a band like this even exists. I guess you could almost call this "their Pet Sounds" album, in that it features almost every instrument imanginable on it, playing over these fast and furious punk rock-n-roll songs. Their "Hot Charity" album they released after this one builds even more on everything just said here, and in many ways, is an even better record. It's too bad their creative peak left them shortly after, as none of their albums since have managed to make a similiar impact. In short: BUY THIS! It tips it's hat to everything good about music (punk, rock, soul) and then some.

3 out of 5 stars Did they think we wouldn't notice?.......2004-06-10

This album starts with 3 powerful, tight songs and descends into filler territory immediately after. The rest of the songs meander pointlessly as if the guys forgot what was going on and couldn't remember why they were holding guitars in their hands. I give it three stars: one for each of "Middle", "Born in '69", and "On a Rope". Those three songs make this record worth checking out, but don't have too-high expectations.

5 out of 5 stars rockin rocket.......2003-12-19

I saw Rocket from the Crypt when they were opening for Rancid as well, back in 96 I suppose it was, in a claustrophobic club in Harrisburg PA. Never heard of em before, but man did they open my ears. They ripped up the joint and blew Rancid's set out of last century. My buddies and I snatched up everything we could find by these guys afterwards. I was going through my fuzzy old tape collection recently, and found this great "Scream Dracula, Scream" and popped it in the stereo. Still rollin...

5 out of 5 stars These guys are incredible........1999-09-24

Rocket From the Crypt is an inredible musical talent. Certainly better than most so-called "alternative" rock. RFTC has got a truly original and catchy sound. This was their first album I heard by them, and I immediately fell for them. Rocket rox.

5 out of 5 stars Astounding CD.......1999-06-02

This is truly a great album. It gets better with every listening time. This is even better than the other albums (e.g. Circa Now or RFTC) althought they are very good too.

5 out of 5 stars Scream Dracula, Scream .......2006-12-14

One of the more underrated punk/rock bands out there. Great Rock'N'Roll with some punk touches here and there. As I think this album is now out of print, it's totally worth the $20.00, heck I'd probably pay more if I didn't already own this.

5 out of 5 stars 90's Punk Classic.......2006-11-12

RFTC is one of the great bands to forward the punk sound in the 90's. A great mix of aggression, horns, showmanship and pop sensibility RFTC is both a great live and studio band. Scream Dracula Scream is their fine hour and a must for any fan of the early 90's music scene.

5 out of 5 stars SOOOOOO GOOD!!!.......2006-07-20

RFTC is a great band, and this CD is well worth your money.

5 out of 5 stars Import?!.......2002-10-08

From beginning to end, this is classic RFTC...probably the band's best known/loved album (featuring one of the band's best-known songs, "On A Rope").....

5 out of 5 stars HELP ME FIND THIS IMPORT PLEASE!!!.......2007-06-25

I have been searching for this title for a Looooong time. Everytime I think I have found it, it is the wrong version. See the Japanese writing down the left side? If that is not on the insert, then it is not the right issue. This particular version has the 14 original tracks found on SDS, but it also has 6 tracks from 'Hot Charity' tagged on at the end as hidden tracks, for a total of 20 tracks. The main draw for me is that ONLY THIS version contains the lyrics to all the songs and THAT is why I need it. THE LYRICS BOOKLET. The proper issue is also released on Universal records Japan. Anyone possessing or able to come up with a copy of this disc in M,NM condition your efforts will be greatly appreciated and rewarded.

This was the first ROCKET cd I ever bought. Needless to say I had collected all of the bands discs in less than a year after that.
I was fortunate enough to see them open for Soungarden on that band's famously fatal last tour. I had never heard of RFTC until right before they came on. I have never been so pleasantly surprised in my life, before or since. From the moment they came on until the minute they left, it was like a texas sized human tornado had roared into the room. I don't really know how else to describe it. They just knocked my socks off. I'm telling you, kids... I have seen most of the recognized great bands/great live bands in my time: Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, KISS, Rush, Crue, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, SlipKnoT, Kansas, Priest, Maiden, Slayer, Pantera, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Megadeth, Metallica (WITH Cliff Burton mind you)you name it and I've probably seen it, and I have never seen a band that owned the stage like Rocket From The Crypt did when they were performing. THIS was truly old school rock & roll at it's finest.

Scream Dracula Scream starts off with a bang and never really lets up.
'Middle' is a one minute intro, a call and response sing along that shows you're in for the ride of your life. It jumps straight into 'Born in '69' Speedo's way of introducing himself to you and confirming your inclination that yes you are going on a ride/trip and it's too late to get off now. 'On a Rope' is so catchy you can't help but sing along even though you can't understand anything but the chorus. 'Young Livers' is just a great track period. It's brilliant, and sounds like a cross between early Alice Cooper, early KISS, and very early Ramones. 'Drop Out' keeps the slap you in the face Rock & Roll groovin' going steady which is followed by 'Used' which is a doo-wop type number. You'll think the album is slowing down, just when 'Ball Lightening' begins. It shifts back and forth between poppy am radio slickness in the chorus and a train barrelling down the traks riff in the verses. 'Fat Lip' slams the cd back into overdrive for some lightening quick punk thrashing and has a really pi$$ed off sounding guitar "solo". 'Suit City' backs off on the tempo temporarily but keeps the punkish groove going. 'Heater Hands' is just a good old fashioned mid tempo guitar lick that tells the story of tough life on city streets. 'Misbeaten' is a bit quieter and even has some 'la la la la' backing vocals to go with it's late 50's early 60's backbeat but no less a charmer (especially the ending). 'Come See, Come Saw' reminds me of Van Morrison for some reason. Maybe it's the heavy R&B groove, the wah wah solo, or the Hammond B-3. They closed their last show with this song. 'Salt Future' has more harmony vocals than most of their songs but keeps a sharp edge in the process. 'Burnt Alive' is a war protest song. When I was younger I probably would have pasted the lyrics everywhere I went (I used to be a pacifist hippy in my youth, but then I got raped by reality). While 'Speedo' was a character John (Reis) created for his band, I believe 'Burnt Alive' is closer lyrically to who John is in real life. I hate war too, but sometimes you HAVE to fight or die. I'd rather fight and maybe die than cower in a corner while someone kills me anyway. It's a survival thing. Besides I have to defend my children. It is my responsibility to them and no one else is going to do it. SEMPER FI!

5 out of 5 stars Rocket Blasts Off!.......2003-07-28

From the insanely catchy one-two punch songs, "Middle" and "Born in '69" which kick off this album, Scream, Dracula, Scream is a blistering riff-crazy rock 'n' roll album like no other.

The band barely slows down for "On A Rope," before kicking it back into gear with "Young Livers" and "Drop Out." This is a great party album. I think that what separates Rocket from other punk rock/emo bands (hate that term!) is the horn section that accompanies pretty much every song. It gives the band more variety in the kinds of songs they can do.

This album is particular cool to have because it not only contains lyrics to all the songs but also contains the Hot Charity EP (or one version of it) which has also been re-released.

Scream, Dracula, Scream is easily Rocket's best album to date and also their most accessible. They were almost on the cusp of mainstream break-out with this album but the fickle demands of the studios have banished the band to their own indie label, which, ironically has made them more prolific than ever!

5 out of 5 stars AN AWESOME ALBUM ONE OF MY ALL TIMES!!!.......2003-04-08

If you asked me that stupid 'what would you bring if you were stranded on an island?' I would say that this album would definitely be one of the very few choices. This album is an ACTUAL ROCK ALBUM! and contains all the various rock elements such as climatic crushing songs with twangy and fast rhythmic beats. The album connects well and I can listen to it from 1 to 14 without getting sick of any of the tracks. This album sounds and feels so good and I'm glad to have discovered it. I can keep going on and on about the album but if your interested than I suggest you purchase this UNDERGROUND CLASSIC!

    1 out of 5 stars don't bother.......2000-01-10

Why get this for the extra tracks when you can buy the hot charity vinyl for less dough? Sure, it's out of print, but I've seen it for like 20 buck max. Besides, you don't even get the whole thing on the stupid cd. Buy the LP and hear it like you should!

    5 out of 5 stars i'm in heaven.......1999-04-16

I have loved rocket from the crypt for years and years and years! I am a dj at a radio station and can't stop playing them. i own hot charity on vinyl (yes, i own a record player and proud of it!), so you must buy this cd
