Sticking to the well-flogged anthems, the lads rumble with pro efficiency and a broad wink ("fat, 40, and back," mutters a scripted Johnny) through a near-complete set list. They run low on gas halfway through these 54 minutes, but there's no denying the nostalgic kick for fans of a certain age (whose emotions will swing between glee and revulsion). --Jeff Bateman

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of my top favorite LIVE cds!!!.......2007-02-22

I love this cd. the Sex Pistols sound great and as a "full" band=with having the original bass player back in the band=Glen Matlock. This is the reunion tour cd (which I so wish I got to see/I missed out on seeing the pistols in the 70's and 90's and I LOVE THIS BAND!!) Some of the songs were done with some different arrangements and has Stepping Stone and Satelitte=songs that are Pistol Staples but were not on the NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS album. It's a fun punk cd=wish their was a home video that was released of this concert. 5 stars. (Other live cds I suggest: KISS ALIVE BOX SET 1975-2000, Alice Cooper=A Fistful of Alice and MINISTRY: IN CASE YOU DIDN'T FEEL LIKE SHOWING UP).

4 out of 5 stars One of the few good punk reunions of the last decade..........2006-12-12

I heard that the Pistols' performance was less than stellar on their 2003 tour, but in 1996 they were tight as a drum. They hadn't played together since January 1978 and I remember how excited we all were to know that the Last Rock and Roll Band was back on the road. Even if their live show wasn't the greatest, we reasoned, it would be a thrill just to see the Sex Pistols together again!
Well, to cut to the chase, we were all pleasantly surprised to hear how good they sounded--how lean and aggressive. No Malcolm McLaren hype or Sid Vicious junky nonsense to contend with; just the four original members of the group(John Lydon, Steve Jones, Glen Matlock, and Paul Cook) churning out classics like "Bodies", "New York", and (of course) "Anarchy in the UK" like it was 1977 again. I saw them in Memphis, Tennessee in August '96 and the setlist there was exactly the same as "Filthy Lucre"(recorded about a month earlier at London's Finsbury Park, where they encored with the Stooges' "No Fun", which was not included on the live disc, unfortunately)...so this album has a lot of nostalgic value for me. And, apart from that, the sound is just killer! All the Pistols are in fine form, and they play a couple of their obscure B-sides--"Did You No Wrong" and "Satellite"--in addition to every track from "Never Mind the Bollocks". I remember how much fun the audience was having at the show, and the band seemed to feed off that; Lydon, in particular, seemed to be enjoying himself. Everybody sang along to "Anarchy in the UK" and it was, in an odd way, an almost spiritual moment!
Ten years later, "Filthy Lucre" still brings a smile to my face. Thanks, guys, for giving those of us who were too young to catch your show the first time around another chance to see you perform live.

4 out of 5 stars Well, This Was Unexpected..........2006-11-16

Who would've thought that the Pistols would get back together for the money? There's a certain amusing irony in there. Or is it the fact that it was done because our convictions told us that they'd never do it? Well, regardless, it happened and this is the result of that.

In terms of live albums, this one exhudes ambiance. John Lydon, I mean, Rotten (it's not PiL anymore) does a good job getting through to the audience in his own particular way. The band itself, despite playing the same chords as always, sound tighter than you'd expect. The fact that the distortion exeeds that you might be expecting also shows how these aging punks won't go down without a noisy fight.

The tracklist itself is pretty solid. It takes the basic "Never Mind the Bollocks" template and appends some tracks from that era and that Monkees cover that ever punk band does. All in all, it's good.

Given the official output from this seminal outfit, this is a welcome addition to their slim line of 'official' stuff. Fans will dig it, and it will compliment the collection of anyone who isn't too keen on bootlegs. The performances might come off as automatic sometimes, but for the most part, this is a live experience that's well worth delving into.

5 out of 5 stars buy this now!.......2006-07-06

This cd rocks!!!.Best sounding Pistols live album. And a reunion one!The new versions are great
Lydons voice is still up to the task and the rythmic section
is kick @ss tight. On the downside,Id have expected a more polished recording for an album produced in mid 90s.It
lacks bass, treble and general dynamics, which I had to compensate for by means of heavy processing. In this particular case, that factor will cost the review just one star, only because the music is soooo damned good!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Thank God there is a true live album..........2006-06-14

This was a great recorded album.

The Sex Pistols started it all (on the UK scene), but here in the US was the Ramones who inspired the Pistols...

Green Day, Offspring, corporate "punk" music... Need to go away and call themselves Pop Rock.....

They all suck.

It would be like saying.. Bauhaus was [...]and My Chemical romance is Goth....

Get filthy Lucre Live.... I am not a kid but a kid at heart and this music brings me back.
