Breathe In is the debut full-length album from Philadelphia-based downtempo electronic duo Beauty's Confusion. Hailed as one of the best underground releases of 2004, Breathe In covers a lot of musical territory, from the "Bristol Sound" to Curve/Garbage-inspired guitar work, to chillout and brooding breakbeats. Fans of Portishead, Laika, Baxter, Hooverphonic and Esthero should definitely check this record out. The sleeper hit of 2004, and a welcome sound in a world plagued by disposable pop music.

A Comic-Opera Treasure!.......2007-01-28
Dittersdorf is a sort of working-man's Mozart; in fact, this opera sounds similar to some of Mozart's early operas. But Mozart sought to break the rules and to explore new musical ideas; Dittersdorf is not an innovator...yet he is no less a master! This performance, too, is a materpiece of refined (not always!) comedy; the arias include some extremely difficult vocal leaps and trills, yet the primary joy is the witty verse. W.H. Auden (no less!) ramrodded this translation to English. And Anna Russell, famed for her "Analysis of Wagner's Ring Cycle" steals every scene she's in! Ad-libbing shamelessly, her introductory aria, all by itself, is worth more than the purchase price!

Eleanor Steber's image on the cover of this set caught my eye while rummaging through the cut-out bins of San Francisco on a recent opera whirlwind. What a lost treasure this performance is - recorded "LIVE" in NYC 1965! All the principles shine, their energy ebullient. Don't hesitate, buy it and smile before it disappears.

One of the best CDs I have heard in years.......2006-06-16
If you are a music fan (and who isnt?) this is a MUST OWN CD. From beginning to end the music, intertwined perfectly with Jenna's amazing voice, will take you on a journey you will want to embark on over and over again. If you took the best parts of Portishead, Dido, Sarah McLaughlin and Hooverphonic and threw them together to make a CD, it might come close to sounding as good as "Breathe In" does. A perfect CD to just chill to. Why this band is not huge makes no sense with so much garbage out nowdays. Buy this now...you will not be sorry.

I disagree with the last review, but maybe that's because I'm looking for something different when I listen to music. I want amazing melodies and great vocals, which are both covered by Beauty's Confusion. Yeah, so what...there is a bit of influence by Portishead in there. We are all a product of our influences, and trust me, there is enough originality here to make things work. Honestly, have you ever heard melodies so good that you get a chill? Beauty's Confusion pulls that off for me, so I recommended checking them out.

I am have just about everything in the Trip Hop genre ! And i have to say this isn't that impressive ! After hearing bands like Mandalay,Sneaker Pimps,Baxter,Halou, Airlock, Swandive, & Lamb this is Kid n Play ! This band is very simple in there Production style lacking alot to be desired. The drums have no kick ! Wait I take that back, the drums are just there bareley existing ? Lyric wise they really didn't catch my attention like my most recent purchase ? Baxter's "About This" which is an amazing effort from start to finish ! I don't know ? I just don't know what to think of this band ? I let others listen they weren't mesmerized either ! They sound a bit like Portishead but not as eclectic ! The "James Bond Like " guitar is what sounds the most like Portishead ! What kills me the most is this band will have a banging beat at the beginning of a song ! Then some scratching comes in ! Then soon as the vocals drop, the beat comes to a less desirable phase instead of coming to a climax or amazing transition ? I just didn't get it ? Like preparing u for something that ur not going to ever get ! This band has a long way to go ! A long way to go ! The Cd is not horrible but not the best in this genre not even close ! $ 10 is decent not a cent more ! I will give them 3 stars because it isn't bad just not impressive ! They remind me of this american trip hop band called "Daughter Darling"! Which I felt was a slightly more eclectic version of fiona apple ! Actually they were one step back from being fiona Apple ! By the way the cover to this cd feels like a Photo copy and the disc looks like a burned cd ? Interesting ? What i found more interesting went to a couple of shops and Beauty's confusion didn't exist in there data base ! I will say if I have a change of mind and hear something impressive later ! I will comeback on this page ! But 3 hard listen's ? I doubt it ! Will see ?

Beauty's Confusion is made up of the amazing and talented team: Jenna Ferone and Skip Frederikson. Jenna's voice is so easy to listen to and so addicting that you'll just keep playing this album over and over to see what new heights her voice will take you to...there's nothing confusing about the beauty in Jenna's voice.
"Breathe In" is a great album overall, but here are some of my favorite songs on the record (if you want to hear them, some of them are available to listen to at http://www.beautysconfusion.net). I agree completely with the above editorial review that suggested this is the kind of music American radio should be playing. If BC comes to Chicago, I'll be one of the first in line to hear them play live...
