5 out of 5 stars Phaedra Is My Name..........2004-07-10

Okay, so Ladytron put together a pretty good mix of tunes. Some rock, some hip hop, some electro, some indie... something for everyone basically. Stand out tracks (for me) are the "new" version of Ladytron's "Blue Jeans" (i'm guessing the original is on L&M, which i haven't listened to that much), and "Teenage Daughter" by Fat Truckers (some other reviewer didn't like this song but I think it rules. I thought hearing the phrase "teenage daughter" a hundred times would wear on me but it really hasn't). I also don't mind Ladytron's cover of Tweet's "Oops On My" but I would have left it alone if I were them.

But what really rocks my boat seriously, is the very last track on the cd, called "Some Velvet Morning," a duet by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra. My life could've been incomplete forever had I not found this gem of a song on Ladytron's cd. I am absolutely nuts over it. The song plays out like a musical duel, shifting between Hazlewood's sleepy cowboy-esque ballad and Sinatra's "step-one-two" Lawrence Welk-ish coos. The vocal parts entwine closer and closer together until the listener is getting single lines alternating in time. I can't adequately explain how wonderful this song is. Whichever member of Ladytron that selected this song for Softcore Jukebox has given me a beautiful gift indeed.

3 out of 5 stars hmmmm.......2004-06-24

so im glad they at least didnt try to mix all these songs together in a continuous "dj" mix. that probably would've sounded atrocious. i bought it for the oops oh my cover, and was disappointed. ladytron using real drums, and a fuzzed up guitar? come on, it sounded kinda bad. i love ladytron, but paying like 17 bucks for a mix cd they made with a crappy new version of blue jeans and a kinda lame cover on it isnt really worth it. but i bought it anyway. it gets 3 stars cuz i love ladytron and wouldnt give them anything less, even if they released an album of them farting.

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack of my life.......2004-04-22

I always wondered what sort of music inspired Ladytron. Now we have mix record by them. I usually don't look forward to mix albums but this seemed too good to pass on. Of course there is the cool punk bands here like Wire and The Fall. There is stuff from the sixties, including Nancy & Lee and Shocking Blue. There is all of Ladytron's labelmates at Invicta Hi-fi like Snap Ant, Dondolo, and Pop Levi. There is some good stuff from the past like My Bloody Valentine, Cristina, and New Fast Automatic Daffodils. There is even a new version of Ladytron's "Blue Jeans." Even better Ladytron does "Oops Oh My" which I hope is going to be the new direction for the next Ladytron album. This is a god party mix and an idea of some of the stuff that Ladytron DJ team plays at the clubs they do in London.

4 out of 5 stars From the Ladytron archives..........2003-12-25

The boys from Ladytron payed visit to Australia in 2003 and did a few dj spots, I didn't see them live but caught their performance on (cable's Channel [V]) Room 208 TV show (sort of a teenage disco on TV) where they played a mix of music like what you get on this CD.

I love the ecelectic mix they've presented here, everything from a lesser known Shocking Blue track, My Bloody Vaelntine's very funky and swoonsome "Soon", Fanny Pack (which is truly great by the way), The Fall (Hit The North - one of their best) and loads more. I've not heard of some of these artists (Seelenluft, Pop Levi, Dondolo) but most are great although Teenage Daughter by the Fat Truckers must be the dumbest thing I've heard in ages.

Ladytron get a look in twice with a remix of Blue Jeans (if ever a song was made for strippers, this is it) and their (sorry, but *slightly* disappointing) version of Tweet's Oops, Oh my.

All in all a great compilation that makes me feel like I've popped around to their place for the afternoon to go through their record collection (if only!).

5 out of 5 stars SoftCore Dreamy Jukebox!.......2003-11-23

This CD is awesome. You need to find a quiet place lay down on some pillows and relax to the sounds and songs of this CD. The dreamy essence of all of the selections will put you at ease especially after a hard day of work. I especially like the tracks from WIRe and Nancy SInatra/Lee Hazelwood- it so totally rocks. Ladytron puts on a good show for anyone that is interested.
Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Great! Almost as good as Mogwai........2003-06-03

This is a great album! I never heard of this band before; I just happened to purchase it in a local store cuz I liked the cover art.
The first song is absolutely beautiful: slow guitars with flute I believe and feminine voice.
It really reminds me of the Stanley Kubrick EP from Mogwai.
The other songs are great too; most of them are kinda slow but a few really rock. At the end, there are a whole bunch of experimental-electronic remixes.
Highly recommanded if you like stuff like Mogwai or Hood.

Ahab Rex Remix ~ Sped up funky version, featuring additional “atomic dog” inspired vocals and beats. 3. Press Remix ~ fresh from remixing The Damage Manual, Press turns in a groovy dance mix with tongue and cheek nods to Chicago’s rich house heritage. Label mate of Ahab Rex. 4. The Countdown Remix ~ Nothing short of electric Lust! Invisible Records artists The Countdown wow with their fierce Punk/Electronica blend that sweats all over this mix. 5. Nookleptia Remix ~ Another Chicago native, Nookleptia’s unique Non Musical approach brilliantly cuts up the original.

          Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars some velvet morning when i'm straight .......2007-01-20

i recently purchased a ladytron album called "softcore jukebox". it is not a killer cd, but i find it to be a worthwhile collection of disparate pieces of music.
admittedly, i was mostly enamoured with the album's cover which featured the two female members of ladytron in beach attire; i was rather ignorant of the contents thereof, but bought it because i like ladytron.

i thought that the entire cd would be ladytron's music whether it be remixes of their originals or their own remixes and covers of other artists' works. in fact, bmost are presumably ladytron's picks from other artists.

my favourites are: "hey mami", "teenage daughter", and "send me a postcard", the third of which is a janis joplin sound-alike piece from the late sixties.

if you are a ladytron fan or you like strange music albums, pick up softcore jukebox.
if you buy it on amazon, there are three entries for the same album. be sure to select the one that has used prices below $10. it is so not worth $30.
