Love Songs for Totalitarians, Music, Leo Daedalus
About the Artist
A man of several hats, Leo Daedalus has written, performed and recorded solo and with bands such as The Sixes, the adding machine and Velveteen Underwater Slumber Party II. For ten years he played bass steel drums with Seattle's Toucans Steel Drum Band. He has also been implicated in graphic design, theatre and video work and has written actual fiction with his bare hands. He is currently traveling the world developing books and other projects with his lovely wife and photographic collaboratrix, Anna Kelley. Plans for Mr. Daedalus's next album, working title 'The Truth About Mice', include at least one song about an hydraulic apparatus.
Album Description
The irrepressible 1984 sound of Love Songs for Totalitarians conglomerates the influences of early synth bands, Russian Constructivism and existential disco under one durable, nonstick musical surface. Working well out of view of the surveillance cameras, Mr. Daedalus has been careful to incorporate many apparently benign noises and specially-formulated lyrics suitable for the subversion of small suburban areas. For instant post-Orwellian synthetic demipop gratification look no further than to the modern jauntiness of Kraftwerk tribute 'Satellit 6', the toponymic delights of 'The Lady of the West' and the crypto-Cartesian orthogonality of 'Black Square'. It's all guaranteed to be double-plus-good for the whole municipality.
