amazing new rock band.......2007-07-25
This band has the look and sound from the 80's rock era if you enjoy that type of music than check out this cd
A Great Album. From A Great Band........2007-07-07
I saw these guys in Cleveland opening for Poison and Ratt, and They were an amazing opening band with a great live show. This album really shows the talent behind the band. It rocks harder and better with each listen.
It's like the 80's all over. So if you like 80's pop metal, then i'd reccomend this album to you.
From the depths of the 80s.......2007-06-07
Vains of Jenna appear as if they've come from the 80s with their wild hair, ripped clothing, and bandanas, but they've been together only since 2005. Considering their style of music is very similar to that of Faster Pussycat, Motley Crue, and perhaps even Guns N' Roses, the look is practically a requisite when mentally picturing the images of these famous bands. Thanks to Bam Margera and his record label, Filthy Note, Vains of Jenna have received more publicity than they would be getting with another unfamiliar label. However, notorious label or not, they're quietly making a name for themselves.
Lit Up/Let Down is untamed, dirty, and fun - this is no surprise since the lineup consists of four young musicians. The songs Vains of Jenna have put together are impressive, but they could be more polished. The vocals aren't exactly beautiful, and the lyrics aren't brilliant, but this is how it should sound if an 80s emulation is the motive (and it is, according to the band's biography). The riffs are grungy and catchy, and the last two acoustic songs are nice endings to the album. Simply put, Lit Up/Let Down rocks. Expect greater things in the future, though.
not worth it.......2007-05-29
sorry - I was dissappointed...weak material. one or 2 strong songs but sloppy playing and not inventive riffs detract.
1987 with a twist..........2006-12-05
much in the same vein as the best of the Sunset Strip
(Guns N'Roses, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat), Vains of
Jenna cleverly mix snarl and attitude with catchy hooks.
"Hard to Be Vain" and "Lit Up/Let Down" are both killer
tracks, and there's no filler to be found...

Power pop is a catch-all term used to describe the music made by any band that knows a minimum of three chords and plays them loudly through electric guitars. Because of this, power pop is often frustratingly dim. Lit are the exception. On A Place in the Sun, Lit sound like Nirvana minus the angst, replacing it with Cheap Trick's melodic sensibility. Their slice-of-Gen-X-life lyrics are comprehensible, wryly personal musings of love, lust, alcohol, and the abuses of each. "My car is in the front yard / And I'm sleeping with my clothes on / Came in through the window last night / And you're gone," frontman A. Jay Popoff relates in "My Own Worst Enemy." Popoff sings in a from-the-gut, pure rock & roll voice that never needs to scream to be powerful or emotional. The hooks, played by brother Jeremy Popoff, are bigger than a cruise-ship anchor. There is absolutely nothing unfamiliar about any of these songs, but A Place in the Sun is one of the meatiest albums of its ilk, leaving its counterparts in the dark. --Beth Massa

Not as Good as I Remember it Being.......2007-03-10
I had this one in high school. I remember loving it. After purchasing it, I realized it wasn't as good as I remembered it being. Granted, it has brought back quite a few memories, but I don't really know if they're really worth remembering. It's up to you, buy it if you want.
Not bad.......2006-08-25
I bought this album for the song My Own Worst Enemy. That happens to be one of my favourite songs, really good to drum to when warming up, so naturally I don't like the other songs as much, but they stand on their own very well. I really like how they change tune and their sound so that the songs don't sound at all the same, keeping it fresh. While there are some tracks I could do without, as a whole it was a good buy.
Great Album.......2006-07-20
I heard LIT when I was eight for the first time...now I'm 14, and guess what? I still like it. Buy this album, it's great.
The band get some attention finally.......2005-08-10
Following their EP and "Tripping the Light Fantastic", Lit later decided to sign on to RCA and record their third album "A Place in the Sun". Even though they chose an awful producer in Don Gilmore, his sound did not overpower the excellence of the record. It's actually one of his okay productions and I don't mind the polished sound at all. In fact, I don't really mind what he did here, but sometimes he makes a great record turn into mainstream fluff of the most generic kind.
I remember this album in my youth in that it was probably my favorite album when it was out, and Lit were my favorite band. While I've changed some since I was 12/13, I still thoroughly enjoy the record. It's been six years later and I don't mind popping this album in once in a while, even if I've had a shift in music tastes towards more "experimental" stuff. A good record always sounds good no matter what you're acquired to.
You'd be surprised to know the variety and creativity that Lit actually has. This one has "My Own Worst Enemy" and that one should be known for its great riffage and anthem of rather silly times. It was power pop at its best. It's known above their other material and probably will be known through time because it's one of those songs that you don't forget after you hear it.
There are quite interesting songs. It's obvious here that they had a variety of influences. There's "Down" which has an old rock sound sort of, with A. Jay singing in a rather different way than usual. The bridge is also really great. I also enjoy the line, "f**ked up my G-whites parking parallel". Then there's tracks like the ska-rock "Happy", which are lots of fun to hear. It's great, because even when not happy, he wants to be happy. Can't you relate to that?
The songs in between what I mentioned are interestingly also worth a mention. There's "Four" which starts the album in a great way and has a nice guitar solo. There's "Lovely Day" that has a hook-y melody that you'll like if you're expecting another "MOWE". I think if you get over your elitist thoughts of Lit that you'll realize that the criticism is pretty much stupidity. Saying Lit aren't punk is not that far off though; they play all kinds of rock. "Quicksand" has interesting guitar and bass lines in it, the nice theme riff gives it a somewhat different feel for the album. Not to mention, the catchy opening of "When I bring it up/you shut me out/so I keep on writing letters to myself". Also, you may have heard the heavy-but-slow "Perfect One", which is good, although not spectacular. The variety in the disc is what makes it so great. Then there's dark guitars on "The Best Is Yet to Come Undone" and then you get to the So-Cal pop-punk of "A Place in the Sun", and the screaming towards the end sounds like they were happy making the track. The lyrics, once again, are clever.
I'll admit that sometimes it's better to listen to this album in parts rather than the whole, but if you think you don't like this album I think you are lying to yourself. Clever lyrics and talent rule this album and that's a good thing, because more bands like that will be remembered. Contrary to the ridiculous belief, it never really sounded too much like blink-182, just people who decided to lump bands together for no good reason said it did. While maybe not a classic, you are likely going to enjoy it. It's about girls and cars mostly but has actual substence and is clever. Also buy "Tripping the Light Fantastic" and "Lit". Even better albums.
A perfect summer album!.......2005-07-09
"My Own Worst Enemy" inspired me to buy this gem, and when I sat down and listened to it, I was completely blown away.
Of course, at the time, it was only for a few songs. "Four", "My Own Worst Enemy", "Down", and "Lovely Day". Then...as time passed (days into weeks, months into years) I eventually grew to love and adore just about every song on the album.
One of the best songs on the album, "Miserable", uses a very clever play on words to describe a jaded view of the course of a relationship. This is a family website though so I won't explain why.
"A Place In The Sun" was a surprise for me. At first it sounds very..."GRR!" but it turns into some beautiful melodic rock.
The one sore spot, and the song that made them famous for a bit, was "Zip-Lock". I really don't find much endearing about this song. It is lackluster, a little too long, and anti-climatic. I do not understand how this song, and it's similarly muted video, rocked the country for a bit. Oh well.
Oh...and I got this album when it came out. This definitely wasn't a recent discovery, just a recent REdiscovery. I simply couldn't imagine life without this album!

Me............Anusha.......2005-09-16
The songs themselves are pretty decent. There is only one song that doesn't appear on other albums called "The Party's Over". It's a standard Lit fair: clever lyrics that are likely more intersting than the music, although, the difference this time is that it's a lot better than anything from "Atomic".
But that's one thing. They could have at least reminded people of where Lit were when they made "Tripping the Light Fantastic". That album shows that they are much more than just pop tarts, and I don't think you'd ever say that with a straight face about the album.
In addition, they add two variations of songs; the "Happy in the Meantime" remix, which doesn't add much from the great original (one of the few standout tracks on "Atomic") and an acoustic "Down". I must admit, I like this version and it's a nice change of pace from the electric-based original.
Love this Platinum & Gold Collection so much.................................
(2 1/2 stars) Is this really necessary?.......2005-09-16
I guess this was RCA's attempt to cash in on the name Lit, who apparently weren't going to be that successful anymore. First things first, why make a compilation when it's only going to have two of a band's albums? That seems rather unnecessary.
I have to admit though, I would like something to be out there that gives Lit a name like their actual albums do. For one thing, they are 5000 times better than elitists make them out to be. In spite of being lumped with blink-182, they did not really sound very similar (and also were a lot more mature and clever lyrically). Maybe because they had a Green Day influence, but that is seriously the only thing I can think of.

Also on the goodside, it does collect most of the necessary tracks from "Atomic". In fact, I may suggest this rather than "Atomic" if it didn't seem like such a cash cow attempt. There's the clever "Addicted" which will make Simple Plan fans never want to hear the song by them of the same title ever again (as well as "Miserable", which was also much more clever).
But my main problem is that this adds very little. In fact I'd say that if you have Lit's albums just to burn the ones that you don't have. And even though the singles matter more to some, I thought "A Place in the Sun" was solid and lacked any real filler (although not classic). But if you don't own "Atomic", just buy this because otherwise you'll have to sit through songs that you don't really care for and make little impression. So it all depends on where you heard Lit from. If they waited for, say, a few other albums to be included in contextation, I'm sure this would be a lot more satisfying to fans like me.
Finally!.......2004-07-19
Finally Lit has received some recognition for putting enough awesome tunes out there to have a Platinum & Gold CD! I think all their songs/cds are the best, and wanting others to join me.
This cd is perfect for those wanting to decide if Lit is for them, and for hard-core Lit fans like my family who know Lit Rocks!

Don Gilmore will ruin any band's momentum.......2005-07-12
Which you can hear on this album. You know those albums where just about every song is basically "just there"? This is one of them. I mean, I don't fail to see Lit's merit at all. In fact, it's one of my all-time favorite artists. However, producer Don Gilmore turned this album into a milquetoast nothing type thing. The lyrics are still just as clever as they've ever been and Jeremy Popoff has some good riffage. What's lacking in this is songs with real mmmph. I can't get over how hollow the production is and there's only a handful of songs worth listening to. Those songs aren't even great. I like "The Last Time Again", which is fine; "Happy in the Meantime" shows they can make a good ballad and "Slip" is the only remotely interesting thing. "Over My Head" is decent and has backing vocals from Aersomith's Steven Tyler.
This album is so lackluster and it's a shame to admit. At one point, Lit was my favorite band; I basically liked everything they did. Here, they sound milquetoast and mainly it's because the producer made it sound even more bland this time around. He also produces for Linkin Park, by the way.
Seriously, you only need this if you want everything done by Lit. Buy Lit, A Place in the Sun, and Tripping the Light Fantastic. Those are actually really good albums.
Two Stars for Two Good Songs.......2005-06-03
There are only two good songs on this album: Something to Someone and Everything's Cool. After hearing My Own Worst Enemy on the radio dozens of times I decided to give the band a try. The store I went to didn't have the CD with that song on it, but this one was only $5.88 so I bought it. What a dissapointment. You can tell the band didn't even put much effort into this album because there isn't even a booklet to go with it, there's just a paper with the tracklisting on it. I will admit that all the songs are catchy but they're also entirely shallow and generic. This CD was a big dissapointment.
what happened?.......2005-01-31
this cd is a major letdown especially in contrast to their excellent album, a place in the sun. the songs on atomic are boring and redundant and simply do not display the talent that they showed on their previous effort. it may grow on me will more listening, but i dont foresee that. its a good thing i only paid $5.88 for it!
Generic pop-rock, but catchy as all hell.......2005-01-30
Looking around at all these 5 star reviews leads me to believe that alotta people out there don't understand the rating system. 5 star reviews are reserved for albums that are flawless, albums that have tons of replay value, and albums that surpass anything else even similar in it's genre. Lit's "atomic" has none of those things, but that doesn't mean its bad either. If your a die hard pop-punk/pop-rock fan, then by all means give this one a shot. However, if you're just getting into pop-punk, try blink 182, Sr-71, American Hi-fi or Mest first. "atomic" may be catchy, but thats about it.
Standout Tracks Include: Everything to everyone, Lipstick and bruises, Everything's cool and The Last Time Again.
Album Flaws: None really, because except for the fact that every track is generic, "atomic" is pretty solid.

When Lit scored a hit with "My Own Worst Enemy" little did the Southern California band know how prophetic the song would be--it became 1999's most-played modern rock track according to Billboard and drove the accompanying album A Place in the Sun to platinum sales. But it also set expectations unreasonably high for a follow-up. When that didn't happen two years later with the release of Atomic, the band lost its major label deal. Undaunted Lit returns with what is arguably its strongest set of songs on this self-titled, self-released set. The disc feels lyrically darker and more personal than its predecessors but the band retains much of its melodic punk-ska crunch in songs such as "Looks Like They Were Right" and "Times Like This." Meanwhile, creeping maturity and the hard knocks they've endured result in unlikely ballads like "Lullaby" and a faithful cover of the Cure's "Pictures of You." Perhaps it's too early to count them out just yet. --Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
An Album I Wont Listen to Much.......2007-03-10
This album by LIT is far from awesome. I find myself bored by about the fifth song. I however wouldn't discourage buying the album. It really depends on your taste in music. I love rock, but this one failed to hit me.
A perfect Lit.......2005-09-24
No longer on a major label, Lit still offers similar work to their previous efforts except this time around their earnest dedication to their influences is more apparent. Dropping from RCA was the best thing Lit could have done for themselves and their fans. The limelight is gone, and the band hasn't changed much - proving their love for what they do. And this is what they have since left us with:
1. Too Fast For A U-Turn - An adequate delivery of Lit's expression of RCA's loss of grip. The song offers a vibe of 70's effects placed upon muted vocals and familiar guitar tone from Jeremy Popoff. The ever present "whooaohs" accompany AJ's vocals as they rip through a very evolved Lit peice. Not quite as catchy as, say, anything they've done - but this was a great selection for an opening track because it warns fans and listeners alike that the band has broadened their musical scope while maintaining the pop/rock fusion they have always held onto. ***
2. Looks Like They Were Right - If you have heard any song off of this album, this is the one you've heard. The opening riff has a vibe extremely similar to Queens of the Stone Age's "Know One Knows." Extremely catchy, yet still delivers a more raw sound as the rhythm bounces through distortion and mid-tempo breaks. I'm usually disappointed by singles, but the band went with a good one this time around. While it may be no "My Own Worst Enemy" to casual listeners, it adds a mainstream appeal to an otherwise fan-appreciated album. ****
3. Needle & Thread - An extremely Lit-esque song encorporates melodic guitar and vocals which break into a solo by The Matches' Jon Devoto. The chorus is nearly the most catchy offering on the entire album. This song does absolute justice to the Pop Rock genre. Needle & Thread is a perfect fusion of what Lit molds throughout an album's worth of material. ****1/2
4. Times Like This - A moody, yet infectious song. Strings accompany one of the best songs on this album. Not only is it one of the better songs on the album, but it successfully displays Lit's eclectic presentation of influence. You won't find anything like this on Lit's previous albums, and only Atomic comes closest. Dark, catchy, and entirely worthy of their greatest hits catalog. ****1/2
5. Throwaway - One of the fortunate aspects of Lit's work is Jeremy's ability to churn through riffs which dissapate any notion of album filler. Even if a song isn't well above par, the brothers Popoff have a strong talent in adding fills and hooks to implant into your mind. Throwaway is a great example of this. The song begins with power chords reminiscent of AC/DC's 'Back in Black.' Not to say that it's a clear ripoff - it's simply an effective presentation of yet another constant influence that Lit has kept close. Not quite as memorable as the album's previous tracks, but it still manages to find its place on the album collectively. ***
6. Forever Begins Right Now - A blatant Elvis Costello tribute. Hand claps make up the chorus' rhythm (think 'That Thing You Do' - if you saw that sub par peice of film). I mentioned "Needle & Thread" to be NEARLY the most catchy offering on the entire album. Well, this one takes the cake. Spin this one for your girlfriend if she refuses to go to a Lit concert with you. The song aims at catchy, yet somehow manages to steer clear of complete sap. Lit pulls off a song which will be stuck in your head for days, and you won't necessarily be pissed at them for it. ****
7. Moonshine - This song serves as an appropriate intermission for the album. Not their best, but certainly not their worst. Jeremy salvages a potential b-side with well delivered riffs and hooks. It blends in well with the album, but that could be its only flaw - it blends. It belongs, but hardly holds onto the edge of saturation within an otherwise strong offering. ***
8. Alright - Just when you think you might lose interest in 'Moonshine' Jeremy flanges his guitar into a very So-Cal punk progression. While the chorus is somewhat repetitive and predictable, the verses offer the punch of A Place In The Sun's "No Big Thing." Fortunately, the song doesn't stay beyond its welcome as it adds a pop punk flavor to a more alternative rock attempt of an album. ****
9. Lullaby - Intentionally sloppy piano work begins Lit's softest outing on their album. This acoustic song was apparently written by Jeremy for his son while he was away on tour. There are moments that make the song a little over the top on the cheese factor. The music box affect, the strings, the "la la la's" in the chorus, and the audio of Jeremy's son at the end can make make the song hard to stomach at times, but the song is called "Lullaby" for a reason. What else could someone else expect? It's a hell of a lot better than Creed's release of the same title. If you want to hear an even better acoustic track by Lit, go back to Atomic's "Happy in the Meantime." ***1/2
10. Hard to Find - "Moonshine's" more effective counterpart - "Hard to Find" is a much better song in terms of production and overall delivery. Great harmonies and churning guitar delivery redeems this song from even being at eye level with the filler category. It is an album song, however. It can't effectively stand on its own. The album contains the song, the song isn't off the album. ***1/2
11. All or Nothing - Lit's only power ballad on the album - it's a more raw version of "Slip" (off Atomic) in my opinion. "Moody" seems to be one of the better adjectives for this album, and All or Nothing is a great example of such. The chorus is catchy as hell, and make up for a teetering verse arrangement. "Completely Miserable" could fall in the same category, although the single had more memorable verses. It may sound like I'm split on my opinion on the song, but I believe it to remain one of the better songs on the album - I also should mention I'm a sucker for power ballads at times. ****
12. Pictures of You - Cure cover alert. Let's throw that out right away. The thing is, it's a very good Cure cover. I wasn't too excited about this song when I first saw the tracklist, but there was no way I could dismiss it when I heard it. A surprisingly solid effort picks up the latter portion of the album. AJ's vocals are tighter than ever as they soar, croon, and even scream at one point. This is definetely a very lavish and alluring effort which nearly - dare I say it? - outdoes the original. ****1/2
13. Bulletproof - A darker album is finally met with darker content. This song is about a friend's suicide, and its lyrics seem to blend perfectly with the album's closer. Chants of "We're all alright, We're all alright" finish up the song, and the album. And through hearing these chants as the music fades, Lit proves that their self-titled album is their best effort to date. ****
Hats off to the Popoffs!.......2005-02-06
Lit once again lights it up with another rollicking power pop success. This band just keeps delivering hook after hook saturated with guitar crunch and snarling vocals. This CD rocks hard and is their most consistently exciting release to date. This one is entirely self-produced and the mix is music to our ears. Hats off to the Popoffs!
Lit Up!.......2004-10-27
This is an amazing Cd. It is by far Lit's best yet. Almost every song is great, with the exception of Forever Begins Right Now and Lullaby. Forever Begins Right Now is a pop surfer-type song, and Lullaby is sort of self-explanitory (it's a lullaby song.) My favorite songs on the album:
Looks Like They Were Right
Allright
Throwaway
Times Like This
Hard To Find
These are my favorites, but all of the songs are good. If you are a fan of Lit or any punk, go out and buy this CD right now.
The Kings Of Power-pop have returned..........2004-10-10
I've been a big fan of "lit" ever since "A place in the Sun". Their music is ultra-catchy and totally defines what "Power-pop" is. This is not their best work however. In fact, it falls far short of their platinum success "A Place in the sun" and even farther short of "Atomic" (Their best album to date). That being said, this is still a great album, full of loud, catchy music and even some heartwarming acoustic numbers. Standouts Include: Too fast for a u-turn, Looks like they were right, needle and thread, lullaby, alright and moonshine.
If this is your first encounter with Lit, try "A Place in the Sun", "Trippin the light fantasic" or "Atomic" first, then rush back for this one next...

This is lit?.......2006-05-19
Saw this album a long time ago, I was like, what is this album?
A b-sides compliation? Then I saw it again after a while,
I was like, oh yeah, I forgot about this. I was expecting
the usual pop-punk like place, atomic, self titled. But, no.
This is their first album and very different from anything
they were yet to release. I was blown away how good this was.
Very heavy and loud, A Jay does a lot of screaming. Very
good songwriting, riffing. Excellent. I can see how some
people may not like this, but I think it is really good.
Some of my favorites are: " Fuel" " Beginning" " Amount to
nothing" "I don't get it" and the very good, "Dozer." Every
song is great.Very feel good. " No big thing" and "Bitter" are mabye the
only two songs that are lit like that they were going
to make in future albums. Still those are great songs. Love
this album. Give it a listen and you will be surprised.
GREAT!
Where they finally made a full album.......2005-08-11
Well, now they are back on an indie label, but Lit are nothing short of exciting on their first full-length album, "Tripping the Light Fantastic". If you're expecting the sunny pop-punk of the later two albums, "A Place in the Sun" and "Atomic", you might be disappointed. Oh well, once you get used to this album you'll find it's possibly the most fun album that they've done.
One thing to check out is the early recording of "No Big Thing", which is done in a slightly more rough production and not quite in the same way as the polished "Place" version. This album has all types of sounds. The metal sound you hear that they like is heard in a few songs, even. I'm glad that the band re-found themselves recently, because this is just what Lit is all about. They make songs that have a bunch of flair and talent. Songs like "Bitter" have the clear Nirvana influence; elsewhere there are songs like "Habib" that are totally unique with great Lit melodies and then there's near-surf guitar riffage of "My World", with some really good melodies from them. The riff kind of reminds me of "Warped" by RHCP. It kind of reminds me of hardcore in some spots, like when A. Jay screams on "Amount to Nothing" and its rhythm break. "Dozer" starts out a bit toned down, and while a slower moment, does not lack any distortion. They still talk about their love for the "Cadillac", if you want some of that. This album is meant for repeat listens. The sound is varied yet totally focused. In fact the mixture of that shows their ability of great song writing. You may think they were an overnight band, but this proves here that's the last thing that Lit was.
I think that I like it on the same level as "Sun", but I think that now I prefer the self-titled to this. To me, that's a continuation of what they were doing here, stripped of pressure from RCA (now they're on Nitrus) and Don Gilmore. The latter makes me proud because I personally feel that's why people think they "sold out" later. They are a band of their own and on here there is grunge, metal, hardcore, punk, and a bunch of their old influences put in here. Even you elitists will be biting your tongues at this one. And maybe you'll want to get "Five Smokin' Tracks", although that's only really worthy for the remake of "Stain". The other four are demos of what have since appeared on this album. Not as "Sun"-ny as you might expect but it is very good.
Good if you know what you like.......2004-01-31
This album is really good if you look for music in places that you wouldnt normally look. Like alot of bands these days Lit unfortunately sold out with thier recent albums but also like most bands you gotta find and listen to thier first album in order to really know the band. Unlike kids these days that pick up a band cuz all thier friends listen to it and get only the newest albums. Lit is a great rock band and i enjoyed this album alot but i would not recommend any of thier other albums because of their transformation into a pop sensation in recent years. This album alone puts Lit at the top of my list for good rock bands though...rock on!
Very Bad CD.......2003-07-20
This cd is absolutely horrible. But the only way my review would seen is if i gave it a 4 or 5 star. Anyway, this cd has very meaningless lyrics put together with meaningless music that you could tell didn't take very long to make. Don't make the same mistake as I did, just go buy a U2 cd or something.
Great cd for what it's worth.......2003-05-28
This cd is basicall what every teenager feels. I like the loudness. It has the catching tunes as well as inner song meanings.

Album Description
Tight and precise. Four years in the making. This record has the songs you've always known were there but never made it to CD - until now. It's a treasure chest melodies and words that grab further hold of you with each listen. Produced by J.D. Foster with guest appearances by Richard Buckner, Jeb Loy Nicholds and Syd Straw.
Customer Reviews:
this is an amazing album.......2001-09-20
and a super recording of crafty song writing.i guess it's a real compliment when who hear dave schramm's guitar playing and the schramms production ripped off by the best.if you don't own a schramms record, this is the one to buy!.i've seen these guys play around nyc for 10 years, the schramms invented roots rock americana!!.
unfortunately, kind of boring.......2001-08-07
This CD is rather a disappointment, I think. I love Richard Buckner who does back-up on here and like Jeb Loy Nichols (also on harmony/back-up) too so I figured this would be well worth buying. While there are a few good lines, riffs and moments on here, overall it is an uncommonly boring CD -- not good for driving, for example.
I have not heard a record like this in a very long time........2000-10-10
It's a tightly packed body of tunes and poetry that stays in my mind long after the stereo has been turned off. I wish I could describe the music in such a way as to do it justice. It's rock and folk and loud and tender and guitars and organs and all things that make sense. I gave it two listens and felt satisfied. I gave it a third and was totally blown away. The playing and songwriting are nothing less than superb!

Awesome!.......2004-06-02
This is the best new young group I have heard in years. If they aren't HUGE soon, what a waste of talent that will be. This is like city meets country - love meets lust meets angst - all wrapped up in the some of the most poetic lyrics i have heard. And Daniel Ahearn, the lead poet-singer, is really gorgeous!!
-Loving them in NYC
Sophisticated, like country music in 2035.......2004-04-27
An exquisitely crafted collection of songs. I bought this record the other day after hearing about them on NPR's Weekend Edition and I am just blown away. Lives up to the billing, for sure!
more like short stories than music.......2004-04-26
ill lit's second full-length, i need you., combines the melancholy-drifter sounds of Americana - lonesome acoustic guitars, on-the-verge-of-tears vocals and strong melodies. The lyrics on i need you. provide such detail that they almost seem more like short stories than music. This is an album for anyone who has ever felt lost; ill lit might not help you get found, but it will give you some beautiful songs to light the way. R.I.Y.L.: Will Oldham, Beth Orton, Clem Snide
